Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

I'm extremely frustrated that I'm banned from ingame chat, just because I play on Xbox

I like the social aspect in games, communication and making new friends. Even just saying something like "gg that was close" adds to the social experience, and being able to actually communicate with people I add to my friends list. This game seems like a perfect environment for it, yet for some reason console players are completely banned from chat and can't even see it? Every other crossplay game I've played on Xbox allows chatting.

So let me get this straight, a pc player has a keyboard plugged in to their pc and they are allowed to chat. I have a keyboard plugged into my Xbox, but I'm not allowed to chat. Makes absolutely zero sense. (yes, Xbox has USB ports and keyboard functionality in case the devs aren't aware of it)

    Let me speak toxicity or not this "Blessing" is subjective );
I really wanted to add this person who I played with because they were really fun to play with but unfortunately the different devices disabled me from communicating with them

no reason for we to not at least see the chat… and the disable feature is there on pc since… idk… long time.

so if everyone saying "it's toxic" could just let us decide that for ourselves, that would be great.

As a PC player, you do not want access to the chat at the end. In fact I think they should get rid of it on there. Luckily you can turn it off, so that's what I do. Too many toxic people tell you to harm yourself or call you racist/homophobic things. Or they try and gaslight you as they cope about losing. Console players are blessed.

I think you dont know that console is just spared of insults and threats which pc kinda is too if you dissable the chatt.

I'm on console as well, and trust me- we do not need the chat box. If it ever comes to console, I'm disabling it day one. This game and our community are already toxic as is- I'm not in the mood to be insulted by entitled crying survivors, or butthurt killers in chat. Or worse- cocky survivors/killers rubbing your loss in.

There is enough pointing, tea bagging, head nodding, and hits on hook to cover that area of "socializing."

Either everyone should have access to chat, or no one. It's not fair that pc players get this feature only when console players pay the same price for the game.

Nah I'm so grateful I don't have it. I don't need to be told to off myself because of a game. I remember when I used to play games with public VC and it was so insanely toxic that I quit pvp gaming for years because of what it did to my own mindset.

You can still add them tho. Just send a request through the game. Half my friends are random adds from different platforms.

I tried it, but you can't even send messages to people on the friends list so no way to communicate.

No, you can't. You can try to find them on discord if they have the same name. But even if you could, the end game chat only let's you talk at that moment anyway. If anything, the game needs an inbox. It would be just as toxic, but would be more useful for crossplay.

Nah m8, console players will be in shambles when they realize PC players can type faster, say much more, and constantly roast them as they struggle to keep up on their little virtual keyboard. Trying to save support the time and hassle of having to go through an incoming flood of Recover banned account e-mails.

i first started playing dbd on xbox and it was great. Never even knew chat existed. But every match felt like i was playing bots, play the match, win or lose the match ends with nothing post match. Then i started playing on PC gamepass and i never looked back. As solo survivor i found i was able to say things like "running gen build" to let others know what perks im running in pre game lobby and post matches became more interactive. True, toxicity is rife and very often people will vent but for me, its mildly amusing to get survivors saying "git gud" and "learn to play noob" after they have just lost the match. i mean, i won…looks like they need to learn to play but ok. Just adds to entertaining interactive value of the game.

Do… do you think that console gamers haven’t heard of keyboards? “How is this man typing so fast?? He’s a witch!”

I wouldn't care if they removed chat because of toxicity but I have a problem with removing it because it's not fair for all platforms. If that was the reason, I'd like them to separate PC from console development so the devs can optimize each platform to their limits. I'd like to see how far they can push DBD on PC… but I digress. It's beyond separating at this point.

I guarantee the lack of chat is due to Microsoft policies. No dev is going to intentionally create extra work for themselves by removing a feature for no reason. Plenty of other PvP games have the same "no chat on console" as DBD. It's not BHVR.

Wow I didn't even know pre-game chat exists. This makes it more unfair.

Every other crossplatform game I played on Xbox has chat enabled. Even Rocket League lmao.

I don't think you'd enjoy it as much as you think you would. You know public lobby and in-game chats like Overwatch? I mute my mic and often the game voice chat unless I'm with squads. I'm personally glad when I play console I don't have to see it, but I still get sloppy DMs occasionally.

Do… you think most console players use one to type? Or that someone is sticking around waiting for you to find one to plug in?? Please, don't make me laugh.

I was specifically thinking of Rocket League. I don't play on console, but I thought it didn't have chat. My bad.

Maybe when you chat on XBox I can't see it on PC? Maybe that's what I was thinking of?

I still imagine the problem is Microsoft, but I admit my claim is a lot more unreliable now. ;)

sure I could but doing that still gives me no way of communication to them to even add them somewhere where I can ):

you think keyboards are rare or something? this is like saying "no one would get a headset for their console"… you fr?

Meanwhile me on PS5 eternally grateful that there is no end game chat and I can just play my game in peace.

Why am I not surprised your entire reply is off-base, lacks any semblance of reading comprehension, critical thinking, or actual experience? Not that my post needs an explanation, but…

The majority of console players are not gaming with a keyboard attached to their console at all times, if even a majority of the time. It has nothing to do with "rarity" and everything to do with culture of the console gaming environment, other peripherals like external storage and chargers taking up limited USB hubs, and a historical lack of keyboard support on most titles that come to console. Most players would still be pulling up an app to type on their phone's virtual keyboard, whether it be an app or typing directly on console, which in either case will be leagues slower than what your average troll and sh**poster can put out per second. I'm sure there are plenty of PC players eager to test that out, so I don't need to be proven correct now. Time will do it, as it typically does.

you say all this, but it does not matter at all.

none of it is a reason to not have chat on console.

  • brewingtea
    brewingtea Member Posts: 707

Maybe we shouldn't cater to players who play on console AND desperately want to chat AND don't have a keyboard AND will get confused and angry about typing speeds?

I'm not saying they don't exist, but it is a bit of an edge case.

endgame chat is 98% toxic cesspool of disgusting, vile, hate-filled garbage. The devs should eliminate it completely for everyone. It does far more harm than good.

After playing for ages on Nintendo Switch and not even having the ability to talk to other switch players (yeah, you read that right, switch friends have no chat function between them in or out of a game 😭) it was a novelty finally seeing the chat.

However, ironically, I’m the reverse of @sinkra because I
play on Steamdeck - so I’m basically playing a PC game like a handheld console lol it takes me ages to type on the tiny onscreen keyboard with a million typos haha

I personally very rarely see toxic chat if I’m honest. The odd one here or there but nothing too drastic.

    Many are like this:

This is actually very surprising to me. I always assumed chat was a universal no-no on console because of the strict code of conduct that can't be enforced outside of in-platform messaging.

It's probably because of Nintendo's chat restrictions, so BHVR decided to just exclude all consoles when it should just be Nintendo. So I'm being punished for playing on Xbox because of Nintendo's draconian rules.
