Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Who agrees that Myers should’ve had a teleport ability?

His dash ability in my opinion is lame. I feel like in the movies he always stalk teleport and mori people on the spot. They should’ve gave him a teleport ability which makes his character more eerie and it fits him so well. They could have him stalk and teleport and exposed when getting one shotted. Also he could keep his stealth. I’d say get rid of the dash ability and give him a teleport.

One day, sitting on some random Twitch stream, I read someone suggest allowing Mikey to place a shadow-like "mark" when they'd successfully stalked a survivor, where they could then teleport.

It's somewhat similar to the Dredge concept, but without the slowdown, and with the location being tied to the survivor's position rather than the killer’s one. In addition to this concept, an alternative "nightfall" (only much brighter than Dredge's) was also proposed, which would apply a darker filter to most maps, simulating night.

    Simply put, it's a trap/setup killer concept.
    1) Michael stalks Survivors, marking them.

    2) He has the ability to place a ”shadow mark” within a certain radius, with the only condition being that it's not in the survivor's LOS.
    3) He teleports and gains stealth status for a short time with a speed boost to quickly close the distance.

However, just trying to explain this concept in text makes it clear that BHVR is … unlikely implementing something like this, as it's a completely new mechanic that requires a ton of attention to not causing some another game blow, and such an approach to old killers is hardly a priority for them. This mechanic is also low key on the verge of being kinda overpowered towards any survivors without comms

Was this idea from the new Halloween game trailer?

I mean there's multiple instances throughout the Halloween movies where he's there one second and gone the next. Including the original movie. So I wouldn't be against it.

I loved OG Myers, and I really wish they designed gen delay/regression or power ramping into his kit instead of continuing down the "everyone needs mobility" route. I fear they are designing themselves into a corner.

The problem with assuming he has a teleport is it opens a can of worms that fundamentally breaks the basic logic of the films.

Rattling off reasons why a teleport for Myers would be bad off the top of my head:

    • How can any facility contain Myers if he can teleport? He was detained for pretty much his entire life canonically, why can't he just port out of the room whenever he feels like it?
    • If he can only do it when no one is looking, how is this power not known to Dr. Lumis? To prevent him from getting out he would take extreme measures to ensure he is never out of anyone's sight that would be clearly shown in the films.
    • Why does he need to steal a car to travel anywhere? Even if he can only travel short distances, instantaneously porting say 30m at a time every second would still be faster than any car.
    • Why does he never appear directly in front of someone to just kill them before they can react, especially when Myers does seem to feel pain? Myers gets burned, stabbed, crushed, shot, etc, etc over and over again, and yet he never just appears behind his prey to kill them immediately before they know he is there, it's always behind a door, corner or window.
    • How can Myers ever get trapped momentarily, or detained in any way shape or form? If he is ever stuck, he should be able to just teleport away at any time, yet we regularly see him get caught on things and have to free himself.

We never see this ability, his omnipresence is always presented as his single minded obsession with killing making him a perfect hunter, able to predict accurately where his victims will go and what theynwill do, and efficiently and silently take an alternative route to cut them off.

If you add a teleport to his mythos, it creates so many questions that logically break our understanding of Myers. Horror sequels have a tendency to rewrite and ignore their own internal rules, which is why pretty much every series of horror films often gets weaker over time with cheaper and lazier writing... but the originals still stay tight and solid as films.

This is what a teleport represents to me, and why I reject it... the original Halloween films are tight and consistent with their rules. Later films got lazier, and so his "teleport" is a cop out means of explaining the lazier writing in the sequels, that then fundamentally damages the originals.

I disliked Jason's teleport in the Ft13th game as well for exactly the same reasons. It isn't, nor should it ever be a part of the killers power set.

    • It would also be interesting to have Myers able to always see your aura from afar (but disabling this ability when the survivor is nearby). Something like that would always let him know where you are and how to reach you. It's a sort of basickit "vanity mirror" that only works from afar.

I thought they'd give him a teleport ability that revolves around being able to walk through the edge of the map to appear on the opposite side (basically making the map infinite)

Hehe, fair play and all good man xD

I did read it as a joke first, but because I wasn't sure, I crossed my Ts and dotted my Is was all 😅

...Plus it's an interesting topic I generally enjoy discussing in the horror world even outside of DBD... so it wasn't hard to convince myself to go off on one and get on my soap box... 😁🤘

I desperately want to see Myers doing a full tilt Naruto run across the map.

    On the interesting topic:

My understanding of the idea of how Myers (and Jason) can always seem to get ahead of people is that its a reflection of the panic their victims are feeling. They are rushing, making lots of noise, hitting obstacles, etc. while the killer is just calmly moving in the right direction (it's like a fire evacuation, keep calm and move in the correct path instead of running is more effective). So while the victim feels like they are sprinting through the house, they ran into a bunch of stuff slowing them down, and they would have been better off moving away at a brisk walk.

It doesn't hurt that unlike DbD, movies usually have one clear path of escape (i.e. the front door) that a calm killer will just walk to because they know the route their 'prey' will take.

Now I'm not sure how you would reflect that in a video game, because the players don't have the same sense of panic, but its an interesting topic.

It doesn't need to mean a teleport in the lore. It would mechanically be s teleport to match how he acts thematically in the movies. From the survivors point of view it makes him scarier as if he is teleporting. However, it's just a game, so sometimes you need to mechanically dress something. For example, in video games, is reality breaking down around you literally when you aren't looking at it? Of course not, but mechanically it happens (called culling) for the game to "work".

Yeah, and it was never confirmed that he doesn't do Naruto runs.

Very good point, as I'm rattling off "kills" in my head through Ft13th and Halloween, this tends to hold true, a lot of the points where someone is caught is where they've mistakenly ran into a location with only 1 entrance/exit, or are unaware and isolated in a place where they can't run. Any time this is not true, they are usually snuck up on and killed before the can react. It does make sense because there are those moments in horror films where as the audience, if there is an obvious escape route, the kill feels cheap and hollow. Instead of being scared/worried for the character because they are caught with nowhere to go (and the best moments of tension are the ones where there is nowhere to go, but the killer doesn't know where they are and are looking for them while they try to stop themselves panicking/making noise), you're instead frustrated because "the window is right there you idiot!"

That's not untrue, and it would achieve the goal, but this is what I mean by cheap, and I do acknowledge that is high subjective and entirely dependent on how much it personally bothers you. My subjective opinion on it is, the entire point of playing the licensed character is to feel like the character, and if you give the character an ability they don't have, then your immersion inevitably suffers… I would argue in this scenario it would be better to make your own IP based off that character instead of that character, because adding skills/abilities they don't have betrays the players understanding of who that character is and what to expect when they play as that character…

This is why Myers despite being weak was always still highly played… he feels like Myers, for better or worse. Ideally you want both accurate representation and strength, but the further your deviate from representation to gain strength, the more it feels like its the character only at a surface level… it is Myers in name and face only…

As another example, for the sake of balance/strength, does Bubba need his tantrum? I would argue absolutely no, he doesn't, it's an unnecessary restriction upon him that only serves to punish him when he isn't strong enough to warrant it… however… I would never consider removing tantrum because its a key part of the character that would hurt the image of Bubba overall not to have. Objectively speaking Bubba shouldn't have a tantrum… but does it just feel off for it not the be there?
