does Artist need changes
I don''t play too much Artist but I watched Otz's new video and I agree with most of it.
The main point he made was that lots of killers with low pick rates have those low pick rates because they require much more effort compared to other killers who give the same result.
He called this the "Artist Effect" or something.
Like I said I don't play too much Artist but she's one of my favorite designed killers in the game (probably my favorite original killer, very Tim Burton-like) so I was wondering if people agree with Otz, and also think she should be changed in some way.
I'm not even sure if she should be changed, which is why I am making this post. I want to know what anyone with more experience with this killer thinks of her.
If it means anything, the only change I could really think of was making Severed Tongue basekit. I always use that add-on when playing her as it makes her feel a lot smoother and deadlier.

She is good killer but as its mentioned in otz video she is hard becasue if you hit one crow and then miss second your previous hit was just waste of effort and time same with unknown but he is compare to artis easier to get hits with and his power has mobility which artist doesnt have just her crows.
For me biggest uknown thing is why jmping ito the locker when survivor is effected by crows is instantly remowed has not been nerfed its just lame feature which nerfs her even more, imagine you hit one crow on survivor in the shack across the map and he jumps into the locker to compleatly negate your hit even the fact artish has just one chance to get the hit and if she misses she gets nothing.

She is fairly hard to learn, but fairly strong as well.
And that's absolutely fine
I would prefer niche killer stay on its own

I refuse to play her just because of misophonia. I couldn't care less about her viability. her ans hag both

yes she needs changes. Her power is too difficult for too little reward. The window to get follow up shots are EXTREMLY small (and that's just after using one bird) if you use more than 1 you literally cannot do a follow-up shot

I am Artist main, but even I play her less and less with every patch honestly.
She definitely fell down over years and I don't think she is A tier killer now. She already suffered on some maps and with pallet density update it only worse now.
Your micro gameplay is simply pointless (it's kinda problem of majority of m2-charge killers), when survivor can just run into next pallet/loop in 5 meters as soon as you charge your power.
She is hard and complex killer to play as and it's fine, but this complexity rewarded less and less over time. I hope she will get some adjustments soon, because I'm about drop her with last maps update.

Artist is fine, maybe could use a few tweaks but not any significant changes. They are strong but they take skill to use. This means they are healthy for the game. It is fine to have killers that are hard to play but reward skillful play like Singularity and Artist. If players want to play easier killers, they can play something like Ghoul, Dark Lord, or Clown.
Also for the love of the Entity do not do a rework for Artist. After all these botched reworks, how could anyone thing reworking a more or less perfectly fine killer is a good idea.
If I were to tweak Artist, maybe make birds have more vertical hitbox for maps with elevation and maybe add an extra .5 sec for swarmed birds to disappear so Artist has more time to get snipes.

I think her current kit is fine as is if anything she needs an overhaul to her add-ons. She only has maybe 3 that's when worth using while the rest feel worthless.

Yea I agree. Artist has been an established killer for long enough with an original power that doesn't warrant reworking. Just some very slight all around buffs to her numbers would go a long way towards making her slightly more forgiving, kinda similarly to what they did to Vecna when they reduced his spell cooldowns.

Aside making Severed Tongue basekit, as you said, only an add-on pass could be nice.
Otherwise, hands OFF.

The main point he made was that lots of killers with low pick rates have those low pick rates because they require much more effort compared to other killers who give the same result.
Pseudointellectual garbage. Low pick rate killers have low pick rate because the bulk of the playerbase doesn't vibe with them one way or another, that's all there is to it. There are countless counterexamples of such analysis.

Can't wait for the rework where she gets an aimbot and has the cooldown on her power completely eliminated. Also wouldn't be shocked if she is able to fly around the map like a fighter jet.

They tried that and it was a disaster

- That's fine by me. In modern DBD, where aim assist exists (Kaneki, Krasue, but Singularity also) and the Devs try to "facilitate" the killers in every way, she actually has to work really hard to get results. But she's a solid killer and, if used well, she's truly devastating and oppressive. Obviously, some small buffs would be appreciated.

I dont think she can reasonably be buffed apart from maybe addons basekit or smth like that.
She is balanced as is, just slowly getting powercrept by the buffs survivors accumulate in response to newer stronger killers.

Niche and underplayed are not inherently bad things. Artist might have problems but the fact that she requires more effort then other killers to get good results with and thus is harder to get into playing then others isn't one of them.
Not every killer needs to be Blight, and quite frankly we need less killers like Blight, not more

I found a very good tweet about what's going on with Carmina.

I only remember them trying to nerf her only viable add-ons then got a lot of back lash for it. She doesn't need a few add-on changes but an overhaul for all of her add-ons to be more viable.

I main Artist since release and in my opinion she is mostly fine. Yes, she is a very difficult and complex killer with a high skill ceilling and therefore not many people play her but that's fine. I never wanna see her get dumb down to be easier to play but also strong like some other killers. There are just a few things that need a change:
- Make Severed Tongue basekit
- survivors can no longer insta remove swarms by jumping into a locker (either they cannot jump in a locker while swarmed or they have to stay for eight seconds in a locker)
- Remove the feature that crouching survivors don't trigger killer Instinct.
- Make her charge time a tiny bit faster.
- Addon pass. Garden Of Rot and Matthias' Baby Shoes are just awful by design because they cause skill issues on the user and unfun on the other side or her longer and wider killer Instinct addons could become one addon (then it would be nice to use) to give a few examples.
Otherwise, she is fine and one of the best designed killers in terms of being unique (no dashslop and interesting way to pressure survivors from far away) and balanced.
True. All it showed was that the developers have no clue about Artist but saw that some addons had higher pickrate than others, and thought "she is a good spot, let's nerf her, no one plays her, no one will complain). It might sound a little bit rude but considetring the fact that they tried go gutter Xeno and keep nerfing high pickrate addons without either reworking the low pick-rare ones or understanding why some addons have a high pick rate (e.g. Demogorgon or Unknown).
I agree with a lot what the person said but you could transfer this to nearly every other killer. Bubber, Ghost Face, Plague suffer from big maps and strong meta perks. Bubber is also that type of killer - similar to Artist - that gets a big reward when played right but also so hard punished for a tiny mistake. Then we have Houndmaster, Knight, and Bubba again who get more and more bugs every single patch. Trapper, Pinhead, or Dredge suffer from bodyblocking (thus Artist can outplay this, especially with Severed Hands) or teamwork (Interaction is fine and encourages survivors to do something else than just sit on gens but unhealthy when the killer has no counter to it). Next, we have killers like Huntress or Demogorgon who were for a very long time really strong/fine killers but over the years, they got overcreeped or the new map designs is just bad for their power (e.g. old maps have many straight loops/tiles which is good for Demogoron but new maps have more rounded loops which are bad while Huntress suffers from the many line of sight blockers the developers add to newer maps just because Nurse is still in the game or she is still 110% even without hatchets). Many of these mentioned killers (Dredge, Pig, Ghost Face, Huntress) suffer from strong meta perks on the survivor side (e.g. exhaustion perks, Vigil, Resurgence) while their good stuff (PainRes, DMS, Grim Embrace) got nerfed without giving them something as an exchange. Blight, Nurse, and Ghoul are still strong even with this nerfed stuff but these killers not.
What I want to say, many problems Artist has are not her own problems. The best way to make Artist better is to rework/change the general problems: Make big/difficult maps (Badham, Ormond, or Crotus Prenn) smaller/fairer so non-mobility killers are not pain to play on these maps. Nerf strong meta perks and other stuff and bring them more in line with other survivors stuff (Vigil, Deli, Syringe, Styptic, Commodious Toolbox) while buffing/reworking/tweaking killer perks to give them more variety/killers can better benefit from them (the STBFL nerf was testament to the weak m1 killers).
Of course, nerf strong killers (Nurse, Blight, Ghoul) or too powerful addons (both iri addons from Plague, infection addons from Wesker, Krasue, Singularity ect.) since when we bring (weak) killers and strong stuff more in a balanced line, we also need to bring op stuff on the other side more in line. Then, also bring SoloQ more in line with SWF by giving them basekit information or helpful tools (e.g. basekit Kindred, change Blindness in a way that doesn't affect SoloQ perks such as Bond, Kindred, or where a survivor got downed, and rework/buff perks in a way that they are more usable but not SWF exclusive).
In the end, killers will still have their "own" problems like some maps are just better or worse for them, sometimes your power will be countered in some unfun way ect. But the developers could reduce these moments by bringing everything more in line.
However, I highly doubt the devs will do this in the right way since it means much more work than just overbuffing fine stuff or just do a lazy number tweak when something is either under- or ooverused. Sometimes, I just ask myself why they have a consultant team or want our feedback when they ignore the more specific stuff (nerfing Unknown for no reason, nerfing Leverage for no reason ect.).

That is never the solution.

Not every killer needs to be universally liked. Artist has a niche audience that likes her and that’s completely fine. Don’t rework a killer just because of the majority that has little to no experience with her. It wouldn’t be fair necessarily.

Basekit Artist is fine, you can't change much there without it causing problems down the road. I'd look at giving her a small addon pass, something to spice up her playstyles and add more interesting things there.

I don't think she really needs a lot of work. Things I would like to see are largely just qol focused.
First would be to allow her to fire birds while placing them. The fact you have to let go of the button to press another button to fire them is a bit clunky and would help her feel smoother to play.
Second is I would remove the system that prevents her from placing birds near hooks. Especially if the devs are committed to putting out an anti tunnel system.
These would make her feel better to play by removing some of the clunkier parts of her kit without adding much power.

From what I remember Otz was primarily talking about how generally killers are more popular when theres an immediet satisfaction. Players generally getting it more often, quickly, and easily with high mobility killers for example like Blight or Ghoul as opposed to Artist's lack of a sound effect trigger on landing a bird hit or Hag requiring constant micromanaging before achieving those satisfactory hits and downs.
Its a side effect of killer playstyles/difficulties or a lacking in certain presentation aspects. Doesn't mean a killer needs to be reworked.

Artist is fine the way she is. Strong but harder to play, balanced. Her addons are not so great, maybe change them to make them more interesting but other than that her base kit is good.
