Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

People really hate lightborn

So had a match with three flashlights I say screw it and bring lightborn because I don't wanna deal with a bully squad. One gen was done the entire match I get a message saying to get better...not my fault you can't try using other items and/or learn to just...not rely on flashlights and doing gens instead of following me around the whole match.

i hate lightborn too its just lazy tbh, i'm with the rework lightborn crowd

imagine a perk where the killer just couldnt kick gens the entire game lmao. kinda feels the same, you just remove an entire mechanic for the entire duration of the game with the use of a single perk its bunz

my idea of a rework that would make it feel healthier imo would be:

to make it so "out-of-sight" survivors i.e. a survivor who hasnt been spotted by the killer within 5 seconds can by pass the "lightborn" effect. if they get spotted, the lightborn effects activate and they can no longer blind the killer for 15 seconds. this means they still cant blind at pallets and cant constantly predrop into blind over and over again but also punishes the killer for not scouting the pick up area, and survivors hiding for the save have a chance (if they dont get spotted)

lightborns current effects are just outdated

As someone who sometimes uses Lightborn (i hate the blindness screen effect) when there's multiple flashlights in lobby, i think a rework would be fine. A change of effect when blinded would be even better tbh but that's only a personal wish. I do think though that it would run the risk of increasing lobby dodging when there are multiple flashlights.

yea i can understand why people run it, i'd be lying if i said i've never seen 4 flashlights and stuck on lightborn because of it xd i do think a rework would be good with the current direction dbd seems to be heading too though

i think the lobby dodging could also be fixed (maybe) by removing survivor items from the lobby screen, but i dont know how the community would react to this, devs love the whole "not knowing what you're versing" idea so im confused why they werent hidden from the beginning

im also surprised they havent added a toggle to make flashlight blinds dark instead of blindingly bright by now

Having a rework would be nice I will say this I have brought a flashlight or two in the past mostly for challenges since I'm not good at flashlight saves and have gotten screwed by lightborn. The reason I bring it is more the fact flashlights to me are connected to bully squads or just teammates who will follow the killer around while a teammate is being chased so they would rather have a teammate go down rather then protect them. So lightborn to me is more I bring it if I see a couple flashlights because I know these players won't let go of it at all even after realizing I have lightborn and more kinda a point to "you should try taking protection hits or doing gens rather then try to constantly follow me."

A toggle would definitely be the easiest solution. I'd be down for that

I'll forever keep peddling my suggestion to change Lightborn so you can still be "blinded", but you are instead immune to the blinded effects (blind splash, stun while carrying, and disabled lunge).

This would mean the killer can act blinded to try and outplay a flashlight player blinding them at a pallet, and generally increases its interactivity instead of just hard noping it.

It also adds synergies with Shadowborn and Hex: Two Can Play, but also does mean the killer can be affected by Champion of Light and Residual Manifest to give some counterplay back to Survivors instead of just being hard countered entirely.

As killer you can play around flashlights but most of full flashlight lobbies are swf and they can control where they will go down like under palett or in the open and these are situations where killer is done and save is almost guarantee if the survivors wont make the mistake so lightborn totaly counters them and thats why they want it to be nerfed but from killers side you will just sacrifice one perk and have one slowdown, info, chase, endgame perk less which hurts you in other situations.

Good survivors can get saves and do gens even if the killer doesnt making too many mistakes and this hurts the weaker m1 killers which are literally having sign on their back with byllyable writen on it, for one side is imense fun and for other its super unfun and frustrating and most of these squads are pure toxicity in endgame chatt and wont write you anything positive (from my experience) even if you counter them or win they will still be toxic for unknown reasons.

If its swf and they have sprintburst 99 or background player they can go under palett and pull the save anyway after they find out you have lightborn so its not uncounterable as many calim here, killer is sacrificing perk slot to deal with flashlights and flashbangs and loosing one info, endgame, gen slowdown/protection,chase perk its kinda double edged sword but try to explain it to one side which wants to have fun over someones frustration and ragebait him to dc.

Lightborne don't need a rework. They should make it so killers in lobby cant see survivors held items. No reason they should be allowed to. Its too easy to just go in and change a perk.

you underestimate how little people adapt in time…

so many myers matches where I stood there for stalk and they just held the flashlight… hilarious.

    • I "love" lightborn when I play survivors because the killer plays with one less perk for the whole game, and when the survivors realize it, they can easily put pressure on the gens. But yes, it is an obsolete perk that eliminates an entire game mechanic. I repeat, leave it as it is forever because in an "indirect" way it favors the survivors (the equivalent of crow's invocation for surv).

4 flashlight groups are mostly funny games.

Except for certain builds I'm not using lightborn at all. You only need to look down or up.

And how are you going to do that when locked in an animation?

I'm faking and injure everyone near me.

That maybe only works in my mmr , but give it a try.

    – Flashlight saves are waste of time

    – So don't waste time, do gens instead

    – 😡

You would be surprised. The number of matches that I've had used lightborn someone tries blinding fails because lightborn and still keeps trying to blind. A full flashlight user will refuse to let go of their flashlight or even do anything else.

Lightborn is basically basekit for me. Even when no one has a flashlight, I bring it. I could bring much worse so be happy I'm sometimes wasting a slot on it.

I'm currently using both Franklin's and Lightborn hahaha

Lightborn is in a weird place where it's essentially comparable to the visual TR. In that sense, it's harmless. But the fact that it does everything else that BHVR has considered intolerable for the game makes it a relic. It nullifies an entire item and a couple of perks and has no counter. That only continues to support the narrative that one side is favored over the other.

A rework where it's harder to be blinded with it + an accessibility option for how blinds affect the screen would probably be the best call there.

A double edge sword implies it hurts the user in some way. Worse case is that it does nothing. The survivors were going to do gens anyway, but they brought a useless flashlight instead of a medkit for said altruism or a toolbox for those gens.

i mean yea it lazily disabled an entire playstyle. Like of course they'd hate it lmao what other reaction do you think they would have? If you wanna hard counter flashlights without survivors hating you bring infectious fright instead

I've had matches where I've seen the survivors bring 4 flashlights, so I equip Lighborn as a precaution, only for them to not use said flashlights. which is a bit of a headscratcher, like, did they forget they had their items equipped, or did they just not get the opportunity to use them?

I really like lightborn because I don't like to tunnel or camp or anything like that so I just equip it and smack people and pick them up without a care in the world. I just press forward and smack and hook and back. Pretty easy, pretty chill gameplay.

I do like to pretend I don't have it, though. It makes the game much easier while they try to figure out if they failed or if I have the perk.
