It's not that big of a deal but still.
It’s nearly 2026, bloodpoints are plentiful and Bloodweb items are overflowing, yet time and again, random queue survivors still enter lobbies empty-handed. At the very least bring along a simple brown toolbox. We sometimes complain that playing solo is miserable, and it can be, but it’s hard to make that case when more than a few are not even putting in the minimum effort of a full loadout.
Not using an item is like leaving a perk slot empty, don't do it.

Yeah but consider this:
Number goes up = good, number goes down = bad.

I haven't brought an item into a match in over a year. It always ends up being a disadvantage since the Killer usually prepared to counter it. It's happened so often that I stopped. I actually find it more fun to loot random stuff or bring Pharmacy for myself or a teammate.
7 -
I really don’t understand the rationale behind not brining items. People are free to play the way they want, but people are also free to find other lobbies if their teammates refuse to bring items that can only help them win with no downside. Agree that it’s basically like intentionally leaving perk slots empty.
-4 -
As a killer who currently runs Franklin's/Weave, yes, please do bring items.
9 -
I would love a way to "donate" items or offerings to our fellow survivors, in the lobby. I have literally hundreds of Pies/BPS/whatever, so even if you're too cheap to use one of your own, let me use MINE so we can all get the extra BP.
3 -
Be careful what you wish for, some of us only bring an item when we're running a silly meme build (a med-kit so I can guarantee at least 1 self heal, if you're wondering).
But don't worry, my pebble plays are gonna carry the team. Trust me.
3 -
True. If I have a flashlight or a fog vial it's 100% clown time. That flashlight is solely for shining into the sky.
4 -
but your making his point stronger, you are still making that "silly meme build" stronger even with a heal slapped on top
0 -
But what if I need the item more in a later match?
5 -
I guess so. I bring a med-kit mostly so that I'm not a total liability to the team (though sometimes I will bring Plot Twist instead).
I just think it's funny that some Survivors will make the wrong assumptions about my build when they see that I have an item or I don't. A typical "serious" no item build of mine (e.g. Resilience/Botany/Self-Care/Sprint Burst) is undoubtedly stronger than any of my silly meme builds. But if I'm carrying an item, there's a very good chance I'll be hopping into lockers all the time with my locker Dweet build (Lucky Star/Built To Last/Quick & Quiet/Head On) and not taking things all that seriously.

This is, even now, still the only actual way to counter Franklin/Weave Attunement.

There is no reason for anyone here to not bring a simple brown toolbox and use it immediately on a gen at the start of the trial instead of bringing absolutely nothing.
-4 -
But tactically, you want to use a toolbox on the last gen, when it's the hardest to complete. The map is smaller, the killer has only 3 gens to check (or maybe even a 3-gen) and you need to clutch it.
Why would I bring an item for the sole purpose of using it at the wrong time?
After all, doing the first gens faster is what killers on the forums complain about the most as "gen rushing", so why would I ever want to queue up solo and then send the message that "we're here to sweat" by finishing the first gen (which is likely to be done anyway) extra early? Am I trying to "force" the killer to tunnel here? What's the thought process?
2 -
If that's your logic then bring a map or literally anything that's heavily abundant. Better that than nothing at all. My point is people keep shooting themselves on the foot by leaving their loadout half empty.
-1 -
with how matchmaking works there is literally no point in bringing items as they make no difference as long as your mates have no gamesense.
1 -
Having that self-defeating attitude when queueing solo isn't going to help the overall experience.
-1 -
Burning through my items for no difference is just unreasonable.
2 -
I stopped bringing items awhile ago when I played a lot. I typically find that if the entire survivor team has items, the killer plays much sweatier. There’s no way to tell if my toolbox is a basic or if it has a BNP, so people always assume the worst. It’s like having something in my pocket and someone thinking it’s a weapon so they attack me before I attack them, when it was a banana the whole time. So I stopped bringing stuff in my pockets.
4 -
I mean, as someone who still has a lot of levelling up to do on some characters, it could just be that they don't have that many items on that character, or not enough to want to use them until an event.

I learned way back during the Key days that bringing items made you more of a target. I'd rather bring perks that generate items or perks that replace items.
2 -
A good player empty handed is far more useful than a bad player with broken items and addons.
If you lament solo queue allies, make sure none of them are lamenting you. All you can really do.

I honestly think it's a matter of perspective, and opinion.
You aren't arguing that it's "more efficient" or meta, which would have some basis. You're just arguing your opinion and somehow I'm wrong.
Personally, I prefer to be empty handed to lay low and let the killer decide in the lobby to tunnel one of the people with toolboxes instead.
2 -
Is this actually a thing? I've never judged anyone for a toolbox. And by the time you get to them they've probably used it already. I feel like most of the tunnels I see are the first unlucky person the killer hooks.
2 -
It can depend. Historically the Killer seems to go for Survivors holding first and foremost, but the "rules" change over time.
0 -
What are you stockpiling them for though? I bring an item to every match and I still have thousands of items and add-ons. It's not like you're going to run out, and BP isn't good for anything else.
0 -
I guess the logical thing to me, if you're choosing a tunnel target, would be to go for the worst at chase, not the item you hate the most. Running Weave recently has shown me most people use their toolboxes immediately, so there's kinda no point in targeting them.
2 -
That's a good point. I can imagine the items drain incredibly fast because of the fear they'll be lost too.
0 -
Do you go clear a boss fight in a videogame with empty gear slots? No? It's not an opinion. Anything is better than an empty gear slot, same thing here.
0 -
Not sure, though I've seen people on here use any justification to tunnel someone out.
For me, going empty handed is more of a throw back to before the hatch rework, where, since every key looks identical, just bringing a key into the lobby was a giant neon "tunnel me out" sign that you were trying to escape as soon as the hatch was available.
Even with broken key, still same result.
Not that I always went without an item. If I brought an item at all, my go to was a medkit unless I was going for a specific challenge.
I'd say most of the time I went empty handed, but I also used residual manifest and flashbang, which were best used if you go in with nothing.
Haven't played survivor in over a year now though, so I think flashbang stacks with your item iirc.

Yeah well, those people will make literally any excuse. Perks they don't like. Characters. Cosmetics. They will invent a reason.
I guess I feel if a lobby is already tilting you before the match even starts, just dodge it? If I'm playing killer, I find the lack of items more suspicious. One or two toolboxes is whatever. Four is a problem. Medkits on soloqers feel like a requirement since you can't trust these randoms to heal you. I'm actually really bothered as killer when I find someone still injured two minutes after an unhook. Like where is your team? I'd rather them heal. It feels unfair, like bad teamwork is winning me the match (which i guess is often the case.) Maps are usually for booning and those perks don't worry me. Fog vials are borderline throwing. The only item I side eye—but as survivor—is keys. It's not a guarantee, but I'm ready for a rat when I see one.
1 -
It is absolutely your opinion. Especially when you're going as far as "bring a map", then it's absolutely not about performance.
And yes, if the "boss" has a chance to bring an ability of "the item you brought is a detriment to you. This does nothing if you have an empty slot", then it's probably not always a good idea to go with an item in that case. Especially not an item like a key, map, or vial "just because".
2 -
this is my reasoning not to use items that much too. going itemless is a bit boring, but well it is what it is
1 -
For better times? Doyou throw your money out of the window with no reward?
0 -
Well, they're free, so I suppose I would throw Monopoly money out a window, sure. But what better times? Do some lobbies seem better than others? And again, I've never run out of stuff. Even if you die every single match and don't get to keep anything you'll get enough BP for something else.
0 -
What other example must I provide? Attempting to drive a nail into a wall without a hammer? Failing to bring necessary items to a trial reflects nothing more than greed over resources that are abundantly available in the hundreds. Moreover, anti-item killer builds are far from being part of the meta. You’re essentially inventing a hypothetical scenario to justify being petty with your inventory.
0 -
Stop being greedy everyone. Thanks in advance.
1 -
Your definiton of free is unreasonable.
0 -
Play game→receive BP→acquire item→play game. I'd understand if BP was good for anything else and items weren't amply available.
