Community Talk: Entombment & Reverence — Potential vs. Execution
After going through the Entombment and Reverence Rifts, the community has strong, mixed opinions. Both Rifts had amazing concepts - ancient, entombed vibes and cathedral-like stained-glass aesthetics - but the execution fell short.
We’re not just venting. DBD players care deeply, and BHVR needs to hear this: we see the talent, but the same mistakes keep happening.
🩻 Entombment — Solid Concept, Weak Execution
- Deep Rift numbering bug: Tracking tiers was confusing and messy.
- Theme vs. rewards: Bone aesthetic looked great, but grinding 100 tiers for mostly filler charms and minor recolors felt tedious.
- Few “wow” moments: Very few cosmetics felt premium or memorable, leaving the Rift underwhelming.
🙏 Reverence — Bold Ideas, Poor Follow-Through
- Yun‑Jin physics: Skirt and cloth glitches broke immersion.
- Dredge: Fan-voted ghost-in-a-sheet design got reworked into tissue-paper textures with huge scissor arms - blocking the screen. Clearly not playtested.
- Stained-glass textures: Concept was elegant, community expected an actual stained-glass effect on the outfit, rather than the quilted jacket-like texture that was delivered.
- Recolors dominated: Few original designs, making progression feel dull.
- Rift duration: Four months feels long for limited content.
- Deep Rift labeling bug: Came back, showing quality control issues.
- Missing Claudette headpiece: This small but noticeable omission really summed up how rushed this Rift feels.
Unfinished community contest examples: Sable’s “Death by Roses” (missing makeup, awkward skirt) and Singularity (no facial animation) show the same pattern: community content isn’t being polished properly.
The bigger problem? No proper playtesting or approval process before release, especially for fan-submitted content.
💐 Overgrowth — A Glimpse of What Could Work
The Overgrowth Rift mostly delivered: Ascended Outfits, better color variety, and smoother execution. Minor issues like preview rotation glitches and reward bugs remind us quality control still matters, but it’s a step in the right direction.
💬 A Decade of Empty Promises
BHVR has apologized countless times for recurring issues. Ten years later, apologies don’t hold weight. The backlash isn’t toxicity - it’s accountability.
If these problems are “part of the game,” stop apologizing. We’ve accepted the flaws, but we won’t accept repeated negligence.
🧩 Moving Forward — What We Want
- ✅ Approval process for community-created content before release
- ✅ Transparency between concept and final product
- ✅ High-quality Rifts with meaningful rewards
- ✅ Playtesting for visuals and gameplay
- ✅ Follow-through - stop letting promises remain unfulfilled
Both Entombment and Reverence had incredible potential. The community just wants BHVR to deliver on vision, polish, and respect the players who’ve supported this game for over a decade.

- The only truly strange "complaint" is the 4-month duration of the rift. Many players complained last rift that they didn't have time to complete it, and here in the forum you'll find a thread with literally HUNDREDS of people upset that they didn't have enough time. So now we have to decide... is 3 months fair or too short? Or is 4 months too long?

I want more QA on whether or not a cosmetic is realistically allowed to be in the game as advertised.
For example, if BHVR can’t easily make the Dredge cosmetic work, it should never have been a finalist. Yeah, that sounds sad, but it’s better to admit the design is too difficult to implement, than to give us an awful looking Dredge skin, whose arms and weapon covers half the killer’s screen.
If fact, if BHVR can’t figure out how to move Dredge’s arms and weapon so it’s not covering so much of the killer’s screen, then they shouldn’t ever be making any Dredge cosmetics that have bulky arms or bulky weapons.

Personally, the issue isn’t the Rift being “too long,” but that the grind favors daily logins, making it harder for players who can’t play every day. A better approach might be a slightly shorter Rift with higher-quality content or keeping four months but providing alternative ways to earn rewards, making it fair for both casual and frequent players.

3 months is allready very good compare to usual spam of battle passes in other games (~2 months max). If you make it too long (like this one) and on top you make most rewards empty And bad (like this one) its terrible.

Like the increases to milestone challenges for half the rewards. That was an unnecessary change.
I'd much rather have shorter rifts with less grinding, instead of long ones with crazy requirements. cough cough .. 2750 hooks .. cough cough4 -
I think the issue was that is was taking too long/was too hard to progress. Personally, I don't want more than three months as I'm usually done in three weeks, but I want everyone to have time to finish it without it lingering for too long.

Wheres Overgrowth? That was also a terrible rift

Boosting this because the devs absolutely need to see feedback like this.

I have not liked the past handful of Rifts. The cosmetics are too costume-like, I think they're too "high concept". This is the stuff I expect on European fashion shows, not people running away from serial killers. And not liking the cosmetics is a personal issue, but the horrific grind they've layered on top of everything makes it all a lot worse, and even if I liked the current Rift's outfits, they're low in number and padded with recolors and the Free Track is utter junk. I haven't even booted up DbD since the Rift came out, that's how little I care.

I'd rather they fix existing bugs than add lift perks or new skins. Please spare us the Nurse still glitching despite the terrible palette size and spawn issues (game lagging mid-Blink or getting stuck on objects).

Yes, they didn't have enough time to complete that rift, which actually had a reasonable amount of rewards that people wanted. This current rift is much longer than the previous and has drastically less rewards, and of those fewer rewards, several are either lackluster or bugged in a significant way.
Four months would be a good amount of time if they had provided us with a rift worth finishing.

Waiting on Singularity's animated face
Please revise Dredge Fear of Reminiscence to resemble close to artist creation

My personal theory is this: the primary reason the Rift feels so long is to keep the player base occupied while the developers attempt to make their poorly executed anti-tunneling mechanics functional. Beyond that, it doesn’t seem like BHVR genuinely cares about Rift length. Whether players feel rushed or otherwise appears to be irrelevant—as long as enough people buy the Rift and keep the revenue stream alive.
To be clear, I don't particularly care whether the Rift is long or short. I finished Entombment fairly quickly just by playing normally. My real issue with Reverence is the quality of the content—or rather, the lack thereof. There’s little motivation for me to even consider purchasing it.
Side note: after the Junji Ito collaboration, who would want another Trickster skin?
