So tired of killers on VPN... Just stop
Im a killer main myself, I know killer is hard, but this is just stupid to do… it makes matches completely unplayable. Especially like the one I just had against a 400 ping Ghostface. Their Steam profile says they are from the same area as me, yet I was playing on 30 ping myself… So obviously there is malicious intent here, as in VPN.
Other than that, I alrdy see a constant stream of 100 ping killers. I know you don't have a bad connection in this modern age… so just stop VPN'ing pls. Thanks.

If they changed hit detection, there'd be no reason to.

I dont use a VPN when playing this game but so often I've been placed in the wrong server where everyone is over 100ms ping, I genuinely think matchmaking is broken at times

Yeh no, thats fine, that is not the players fault… Im talking about actual VPN here. People with an open steam profile, obviously for example french, all french text and french flag etc etc… So same region as me, but 400 ping. Blatant obvious malicious intent with VPN here.

I will never stop using my VPN!
Not after an unhinged and butthurt survivor THREATENED me in the Endgame Chat By doxxing my State, City, and IRL first name… NONE of which are publicly mentioned in my private steam profile, and I don't have any Social media platforms they could've gotten it from either. The only way they could've gained any of that info was through tracing my IP address, and retrieving ISP customer information.
Who The actual ######### makes IRL Death Threats, and doxxes someone as part of the threat, over a freaking lost match in a Goddamn video game?
After that, I VPN'ed up, I only connect to VPN servers in my region, but not my state or city, Get around 60-100 Ping on average, and I haven't ever played another match of DbD without it!
No malicious intent on my part, simply protecting myself and my family! You don't like it? DC if you ever go against me, I don't care, because You will NEVER convince me to take it down after an experience like that.

If you connect to your own region, and thus (if its a decent vpn service) barely add latency to your normal latency, THAT IS FINE… aren't u ppl reading what I said? I'm talking about people probably from Asia VPN'ing to EU and US.

What is the advantage? During the last anniversary event I was travelling Internationally and played some games on my crap laptop to get all the goodies. I had high ping most of the time I had to give up. As survivor I couldn't hit skill checks and would teleport like crazy. When playing killer it was just as bad. Every time I went to swing at someone they would teleport ahead of me and I could never get a hit in!

Thats a bug, its no ones fault that that happens

High ping isn't the same as playing from a different server. If you're playing on na servers while in a different country, you're VPNing, which though is allowed, is frowned upon since you've essentially made your ping worse and harder to play against. It hurts survivors more than it hurts you, interactions change completely whether you're gonna make that vault or not. Having bad wifi is having bad wifi. You're in your intended server and you're playing a game despite your atrocious net. Also frowned upon, don't recommend.
Please stop doing either of these, its boring to face and it shouldn't even be allowed for modern online pvp standards. No ones fault BHVR still hasn't introduced an ms cap, but you still shouldn't be that guy who abuses the system for a comp advantage.

In the case of the ghostface I went against, it makes him look way further away from you than he rly is. So when you go for vaults, succeed said vault and then alrdy start running away (at least on your end)… Then you literally get teleported back on the ground, cause on the killers screen you were still vaulting and he hits u there. It's complete bs and unplayable.
in DBD anything above 100 ping is alrdy quiet horrendous in terms of hit detection. 200+ is just unplayable.

Tell that to all the Russian players using VPN to get into Frankfurt servers lol

BHVR could easily do something about this by enforcing ping limits, but they refuse to because they prioritize player count (and thus revenue) over player experience. So, I blame BHVR, not the people who are using VPNs.

Yeah literally this, they reward lag way too much in this game.

I really don't understand why I got downvoted. It was a serious question. When I played with high ping it was miserable on both roles for me. So I wanted to understand more. I wasn't stating an opinion. I was simply sharing an experience I had.
Please I'm all ears, those who downvoted what is wrong for being curious?

I think it was just the wi-fi in may case. I wasn't on VPN. And yes, It was unplayable. I only played enough to get the Anniversary rewards and didn't touch again until I got back home. Like I wrote, it was terrible as killer too so I was curious how it all worked but I guess people took objection to that.
Thanks for explaining.

you do realise this wasnt from the game right?.
even with a vpn, they probably tracked it from your account and connections.
again, there is ZERO way you should have yourself be exposed unless you did it yourself.
and if all he did was threaten but send no proof…then its a nothing burger.
i had several people in many games that they will find me and kill me, did this happen?, no.
not to say you shouldnt take it seriously. but just letting you know, vpn isnt gonna do ######### in that part.
and no, if he did just send you ip-adress, it doesnt mean #########. you can reset it and get a new one.-1 -
the only way that lag is good for survivors, is to avoid insta-downs or grabs.
thats about it. which..compared to the many killers benefitting. it makes no sense why you got downvoted.1 -
Thanks! Makes sense.

I remember a year or two ago when cheaters were attacking streamers, and using a VPN became a must to avoid getting doxxed. Could that be one of the reasons people still use VPNs today?
