DBD's problem is no competition.
To put it bluntly, BHVR has always been the only real competitor in the asym game genre. Dead By Daylight would be in a better place if there was an Asymmetrical game that could genuinely compete with DBD in terms of players and features. Right now, DBD is in a similar position to Overwatch 2 before Marvel Rivals has released.
The only hope we have for a truly improved DBD is if another asym game bursts onto the scene like how Rivals did. Without that, I promise you that DBD will never change.

Agree 100%. Lack of competition means no sense of urgency to implement changes or improvements. It’s why it takes sometimes years to implement promised changes or they just never happen. It’s also the reason why the player count has been so stable despite quickly eroding quality control with recent content releases.
But, you have to give a ton of credit for BHVR for making this such a successful game for so long. They’ve found the magic formula to make a successful and long-lasting asym horror game when nobody else could. Despite its faults, it’s still my favorite game to play.7 -
I would have kept playing Evil Dead if they didnt abandon it.

It would be helpful, but I worry there are two things that might make it not happen:
1: I'm not sure the playerbase is large enough to support two successful games. While lots of people play DbD, the numbers are nothing like the successful hero shooters get. This means a competitor might just supplant DbD, and then that game would have the problem of no competition.
2: The hero shooter genre is pretty well defined. Overwatch, Marvel Rivals, Paladins, even failures like Concord all rely on a similar game design. Asyms tend to be very different from each other, so even if there was another successful asym, it might not be competing with BHVR for the same playerbase.

Wish they would bring back F13, TCM was okay but F13 was unique. Had it's flaws but concept was just like the movies. Just really well made for what I got to play.

im looking forward to the new halloween game, hopefully they pull it off well

Absolutely! It looks so good! And if they incorporate what they did in F13 where you can use pretty much anything and everything to kill. Essentially making every kill unique. Definitely will be interesting and fun to play! I'm interested to see how their objectives play out too, different take on it than just fixing something. lol.

resident evil resistance had huge potential. realistically it was the game to clean DBD off because it had really fun and unique gameplay, lots of progression, depth, AND everyone knows resident evil
the problem is it was sold with the probably worst remake of modern remakes and was barely supported. also the PC playerbase was ruled by hackers.
even then i hear that the PS5 playerbase is still existant so it's not completely dead yet, just goes to show that the game had strong bones.
if capcom didnt do it, now i doubt that any game will kill dbd except dbd itself, which'll take back-toack colossal mistakes. that being said, carnival hunt may exist in its own space. but not sure if it will ever be competition because it doesnt have stranger things or resident evil in it.

It might be true.
Sadly, no asym game lasted long enough, and those that did were not significant enough.
VHS, FT13, Evil Dead game, TCM, Last Year....

If Evolve came back without being a Microtransaction hell DBD would be fixed within the span of a month

It doesnt even need an competition, its just needs a dip in playercount. Doesnt matter if the players switch to a shooter, sportsgame or whatever. Yes, a competitor makes the problem more urgent, but both can work.
Either way, the problem is what would the changes be? I think everyone agrees that less bugs would be nice. But is that something to get players back? It would probably be something more in line like new modes (like 2vs8), big events with cool rewards or even a strong new license.

I miss REsistance so much, it's at least still got players on Playstation sometimes.

- The problem/merit of DBD is that nothing is the same as DBD. How many games have tried to "compete" with DBD's success? So many, but all have failed for various reasons. Trying to make an FPS is "easy enough", but recreating the DBD formula is really complex. Even JUST considering the content licensed from DBD... as a "competing" developer, I would feel demoralized. The gameplay is UNIQUE, based on chases, and no one (until now) has tried to recreate this formula. So no, DBD has no competitors and I don't think it ever will (unless a giant video game company wanted to make its own "DBD")
