Why don't people enjoy playing him?
Why don't people enjoy playing him?
I've been playing him since the day he came out, and I think he's the only fun killer in DBD. No other killer has appealed to me as much as him, but why don't people like playing him? He has style and a good power (if you're skilled and know how to use it, and don't spam it randomly).

For me its just satisfaction when i hit my shots compare to other killers, trickster always felt for me like killer that was super strong in open areas and lower wall loops but than totaly powerless on loops with higher walls like jungle gyms where his power didnt do much compare to other range killers like huntress, slinger and now springtrap (his first version was more to this description than the current one that can play them more with the 115 speed compare to 110 speed but now his knifes arent as deadly as before you need to hit 1 more knife to get damage on survior you target and before the more knifes you hit without missing the faster you throwed them but Idk if that stayed, main event is nice and better than before when it was in bigger time window but you needed to hit more knifes which made it more useless than now where you have it every time ones you basicaly take one health state from survivor with your power).
When you hit sick shot with huntress or springtrap, slinger they feel way better than trickster who is more in closer range and feels like you tryied to kill someone by throwing pebbles on him with his knifes and sometimes I can see how people can realy be powerless against him because he isnt just like these range killers above where when they miss there is solid time window to do something he just have two modes first is he just has his knifes and all you can do is try to hide behind objects to delay him as much as you can and second is if when he trowed all his knifes out or has few and knows there isnt point to throw because he cant damage you with them and would only waste his time there is no middleground with his power just this which makes him not so enjoyable for me and feel not so rewarding its just feeling like now survivor is looping me on high wall loop and Im just weak m1 or he cant hide much so I will pebble this poor fool to the ground with my knifes.
No hate for trickster but from all range killers or killers that have some shorter rnage projectile like xenomorph, nemesis, dracula, pyramidhead their powers are more fun for me and feel more satisfying to get hits with comapre to trickster.
I kinda hope his rework wont be bad and will give you something like bouncing knifes with main event or something more fun to use in basekit that just knifing survivors which to me feels like throwing small pebbles on them and trying to harm them with that. For me even unknown is more fun for me which is funny because that killer is just m1 with possible teleport if he doesnt hit two times in the row which is another great desing for killer even artist is more satisfying than these two for me, shooting survivors across the map feels better than using tens of knifes to get one health state or hitting someone two times in the row with big limitation its just desing plus options I can choose from and all are more fun for me than trickster but I dont hate him or his style like the other part of people that cant get through he is kpop star killer and feels to them like rainbow was throwing skittles on them this isnt my problem its just other range killers are more satisfying and powerfull options.

I'm honestly not a fan of his current power state. I've played a LOT of Trickster since his release (He's my 5th most played), but this version of his power feels pretty bad.
His main issues I find is his incredibly high TTK outside of Main Event, basically only having 1 addon slot (Memento Blades are a MUST), and the fact that his ammo count wasn't readjusted to fit the 8 Blade requirement.
I preferred him at 6 Blades to hit. It made him far more dangerous when you were caught in his weak spot, especially when factoring in the throw speed ramp-up. Him being 4.4m/s was a pain, but his power felt a lot more lethal.
The only thing I like about his rework is the dynamic with Main Event being more available as a resource, and feeling incredibly snappy when you can get it to work. I just think he's too weak outside of Main Event at the moment.
I will say I've been playing him more recently again and I've been having a bit of fun, but against really good players it feels like he's forced to play super campy and tunnelly, as he doesn't have much power otherwise.
I hope the rework hits the mark. I have a friend who's a really dedicated Trickster player and they made a bunch of suggestions (and even playtested some of them) which was interesting to see, and I hope BHVR considered what they had to say.
They said they're listening to long-time Trickster players this time around which makes me hopeful, because the initial design preview would've just been a massive nerf.
I think he was NEARLY perfect in his 6 Blade state. If they return to something similar, but with the improved Main Event and removal of recoil, I think that'd be amazing.

A Kpopper who throw knifes.
Wow…
There were Trickster mains who never reloaded at lockers when he was 4.4 and etc (release) because they were dedicated players who got good at a characters that demanded skill.
Now since they removed the recoil, made him 4.6 and made Main Evt being available a lot of times during a match any noob (myself included) can do well with him.
Also doesn't help that his chase music is pretty PRETTY BAD. Feels like someone scratching a blackboard with crooked nails.0 -

boring, not interesting, not interacting, just spam until you get a down

To be blunt im terrible with him lmao. The design and music is cool but I'm just not good enough with his knives. I feel like the payoff isn't good enough either if you are good with him. He has the same counterplay as the other ranged killers except you have to hit them like 6 times. I suppose he is a bit better than others while out in the open.

As a figure meant to evoke fear or disgust, he doesn’t quite fit the role.
I would find him appealing if he were a survivor. I’ve always appreciated his appearance, I’ve long had a soft spot for twinks. 😂
Besides, he would already look the part if he wasn't carrying a weapon.

I liked the old one better. the changes making him 115 made me put him in the bin.

He is rather exclusively zoning play range killer than aiming one, yet I don’t despise him. He is just mid for me

Zero map pressure and he gets pre ran with hold W painfully. You also get absolutely nothing but wasted time if you don't injure with the knives since they drain. Similar issue as Unknown. TTK is very slow.

Zero map pressure, weak to usual survivor tactics (Pre run for example), long TTK for the effort involved, not rewarding enough to play.
Modern DBD requires you to have things that he doesnt (mobility, slow down, anti loop) to make the game enjoyable and not frustrating. As with most of the roster, why play them over the better, stronger killers who actually fit current DBD?

I suck with the knives. I suck with all ranged attacks when I play on console, except Nemmie's tentacle (and that's only because of the strafe). Ranged killers just feel like garbage on controller with the low framerate and framedrops and input lag (and no dead zone or response curve settings), survivors can react to me way quicker than I can react to them. I do like Trickster's design, though, and when I play him I play him as an M1 killer and enjoy twirling his bat. I love the bat twirl.

I can't even hit a bot who's standing still when I try to use him. The ranged killers in this game are hard on console and the practice isn't worth the reward when there's a ton of other killers I can play. He's also my most hated killer to play against as survivor and that doesn't really inspire me to try.
His cosmetics are cool though.

I don't play him because BHVR can't get controller right.

I don't mind him but he's just not really that satisfying for me just meh.
The 2 killers i really enjoy that feels oppressive is SpringTrap and Xenomorph (queen skin only) ones a living corpse trapped inside a mech suit that chucks a large axe and the other is a large unstoppable beast. Compared to Trickster he's just another skinny guy just meh.

Old trickster was just a double edged sword he was 110 but threw knifes faster you hit more without missing and needed to hit one knife to get health state from survivor but he was good only in open areas and lewr wall loops on higher wall loops like shack, main buildings or jungle gym he was almost powerless 110 killer weaker and way worse than any other 110 killers. If you can spot something its that 100 killer have always strong power at something and worse was trickster whrn he was 110. Now this is more fixed with 115 speed but he still isnt much stronger and good trickster main can just destroy strong swf with comp potencial maybe better now than before but still aoverall he isnt strong killer if you can hide from his knifes and keep distance and thats all he offers plus the recoil wasnt that needed at all it was just another unnecessary thing he didnt even needed.

The difference to unknown is trickster has many knifes and throws them fast plus it takes 15 seconds for his (Idk whats called laceration or what) effect by knifes to get down and it didnt dissapear instantly which unknown has like 1 maybe 2 shots when he hits survivor and if he doesnt hits 2 shots in the row he has nothing but teleport that isnt best because even it is instant survivors can destroy it fast and he must go around the map to put them there so its set up tp with easy counter from survivor side just hold m1 for what 6 to 8 seconds and his tp is gone.
Trickster is weaker but in chase he is bigger monster for me, he can destroy you in open or basement or when trading hooks on place like hill and his power is easier to hit and get some results than unknow who is just "hit two shots in the row or go home son" type of killer which is harder in general (unknow has 10 seconds duration effect on survivor with uvx but survivor can get this "slowly" off from 25 meters by looking at him and there is 1,25 second staredown linger so when he is blocked from your field of wiew you still get 1,25 seconds from these 10, there is vedeo from otz calle Harmless and he realy is harmless just watch it there are all things that make him suck and using his power much is just counterproductive same as with doctors shock).

I like using him, my friend mains him due to being a kpop fan girl and wont play any others until she starts to get harder teams. Others don't like him for the same reason as skull merchant as they feel hes not a horror theme. Id say the main frustration point for people not wanting to use him is he is probably one of the hardest to use on console, so most console players stay away and use something like huntress who only has to aim 1 shot. And then its the map dependancy where open field maps are like open season rabbit hunting but places with tons of walls make things feel like shooting a fish in a barrell making your rounds feel either easy or hopeless so its much rarer to get those "tough but fun challenge" rounds. I enjoy using him but i also tend to notice that like with clown - gens always fly faster somehow.

Ditto. It's virtually a guaranteed 4E for the Survivor team whenever I play him. But at least with Huntress and Deathslinger, if I do manage to land my shots it's going to result in an injury. Trickster feels like a lot of effort for not much return. It also feels a bit cheap to mow Survivors down with his main event. There's just no counterplay to it if you get caught out in the open.
I love everything else about the character, so when I do play the odd Trickster game it's to enjoy all the things I do like about him while I suffer through the game play.

I have been playing Trickster a lot before his "rework". Not really interested in him anymore.

Why play a worse version of huntress?
-1 -
He feels like nurse 2.0 by just avoiding all loops or problems thrown at him by just throwing knives around, over or behind loops.
And if not that, it feels kind of cheap to just spam without much drawback, imagine huntress or springtrap without a cooldown and just spammed m2 every chance they get until you are down.

He has style
Well…that would be a point to discuss for sure.
If you aren't into KPop/Anime/Asian cartoonery and/or bright colors, you probably either dislike or at least don't care about his looks. He is very niche regarding that. He also isn't remotely what I consider enjoyable Asian horror. Look at Sadako (just the design and lore). Or Krasue. That's the stuff.
But at the end of the day it just is personal taste in aesthetics. No one can be forced to like stuff just because some others do.
and a good power
Doesn't matter if it is "good" or "strong" if people just do not enjoy it. This also is completely down to personal taste and definition of enjoyment.
There are other ranged killers who are much more fun and at least equally strong if not better.
I can totally imagine that people overall just enjoy it more and find it more satisfying to hit Huntress hatchets across the map, get nice shots through fences with Deathslinger or hit a nasty Punishment of the Damned through obstacles with the big guy with the funny hat.

He is the Feng Min of killers with the best cosmetics. I don't really enjoy playing with him outside of downing someone with main event. His chase music is "meh."

Didn't like running him during any of his changes, mostly because he's never felt smooth with the controller.
