Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

New Abandon Condition Needed

For Killers with persistent, unreasonably high ping:

image.png

This is completely impossible to play against and the Survivors should be free to abandon in these situations. Hits connect from miles away, the Killer is practically warping around the map, and your entire game stutters when they try to grab or pick you up.

I understand not everyone has access to the best internet, but there comes a point where it's just downright unreasonable to expect people to play against you if this is your connection. Survivors should be free to Abandon the match if the Killer's ping remains at 200+ ms for a prolonged period of time.

Like I said, I'm not trying to punish people for occasional internet or server issues, but 800+ ping for the whole match is taking things too far and no one should be forced to play against that.

RUS/ME are a different story of course, cause they got no choice, but they will always be above the 80-100 mark sadly…

Personally, I can tolerate RUS, ME, and SA having high pings because they really don't have any other option. I don't know if BHVR can really do anything about the first two regions, but SA 100% deserve their own server. They've been asking for one for years and it would greatly improve their (and everyone else's) experience of the game.

That being said, 800 ping goes way beyond what I'd expect from someone connecting to the next server over from them geographically. Like you said, this is almost certainly someone intentionally messing with their connection and not a "there's no server close to me" issue. I've occasionally ended up on the NA servers as a European and my ping was only ~100-150.

IMO 800 is someone either playing on an outdated connection that isn't designed for modern applications (like online gaming) or tampering in order to gain an advantage. And in either case, I don't think it's fair for their opponents to be forced to stay in the match.

Oh yeh absolutely, 800 ping is just blatant Asian VPN. Was just making my point that anything above 100 is alrdy highly sus in any case. You just know that player is not from your region (or manipulating it). Weird hits alrdy start happening at 80+, that is why you see so many killers deadcentered on 120 ping. It seems to be a sweet spot for ping manipulation (at least in DBD).

Edit: If the ping doesn't move up or down at all, or barely ever… it is usually a dead give away that the player is manipulating their ping with outside sources. Cheaters and VPN in DBD has sadly become mainstream these days.

I play in SEA region, and my ping is constantly around 100ms, but I'm very sure my ping can be 50-60ms, because it works in some matches.

DBD ways of managing servers are just bad that they'll send you to other servers for no reason. So before they fix it, abandon shouldn't be a thing.

I have no knowledge over other regions, was using my own, the EU as an example. EU server is swamped with these type of ppl, hence I'm here agitated replying to this post ;) Alrdy made my own posts about it in the past. BHVR will never react or do anything about it.

Just help your own mental health and quit the game too ;) That is the only way BHVR will change. When their bank account gets hit hard enough.

Instead of giving another excuse for BHVR not to fix this problem I’ll prefer to demand urgent fix of their servers and optimization. For me it's just silly, giving an abandon for the case where BHVR failed to properly protect their game from exploiting

How doesn't the server disconnect them with such ridiculous ping

No idea. The highest spike I saw them get to was 1000 ms. It's truly unfathomable to me how that's even remotely playable.

Yeah, let the Killer get auto-DC'd when they have insane ping like that (or any player, really) rather than letting us abandon. Let them suffer the DC penalty for it.

100% behind this. Either show us ping in lobbies so we can dodge, or allow us to exit the match early. My main reason for leaving was bullshit hits. If I drop a pallet and stun the killer, I should not then be hit on the other side of that pallet.

I've seen killers start the match with good ping, but once they know they're losing, their ping suddenly and out of nowhere hits 300+.. You're not telling me this is normal..

You realize the high ping here is hurting that killer more than it is helping them right?

I know many killers from Asia intentionally connect to US servers using VPNs. Their latency usually sits around 160–180 ms, which heavily disadvantages survivors while having almost no downside for the killer. And they know exactly what they’re doing and exploit this on purpose for an unfair advantage. Personally, even 100+ ping already makes me want to quit the game since you still get hit even you win the mind game. Anything above 160 ms is completely unacceptable. To me, using vpn is more like cheating, I equally report every killer which has high ping, and ofc it is useless because BHVR is allowing it apparently.

Would it be nice yeah would devs do it? No cause I'm sure if we start doing it I'm sure players will advocate for the same to be able to dc if a players MS is above 100ms cause I've seen so many players complain the game is unplayable being a player with 100ms
