Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Survivors judge other survivors based on the character they are playing

Something happened to me a while ago that's still bothering me. I don't have a main survivor; I always play in rotation because I like variety. When I went into the queue that day, it was Sable's turn in my rotation. I don't usually read the pre-game chat, but for some reason, I did that day. And I'm glad I did, because otherwise, the match would have been a nightmare for me.

Apparently, the other three survivors were a SWF. One of them wrote in the pre-game chat, "Go, we don't like Sables," and I was too perplexed to reply immediately. Then they wrote again, "We'll keep you on the hook," and that's when I left. Sure, they got their way, but I don't see why I should stay in a match where my team is against me from the start.

What's with this nonsense of judging a player based on which character they're playing? I don't play any differently whether I'm playing Sable or Mikaela, Kate, Meg, Yun Yin, Nea,Leon,Bill ....

Anyway, I find it disgusting to be so mean to a random player whose personality and playstyle you know nothing about. I might have been able to save your butts in that match. But if you don't want, then fine.

    There are a few reasons.

    1. Stereotype of the typical player of that character.
    2. This is a big one, they are a popular character therefore get more cosmetics than their preferred main.
    3. Sable is particularly hated because she's one of the newest survivors but gets a cosmetic or two nearly every month.

It's mostly these these reasons, though there are others. But actively sabotaging the games, most players thankfully (at least to my knowledge) are not that petty.

    Depends on the survivor.

Take Sable for example, alot of people play her across all MMR's, but for the most part she is seen as the quote on quote "gooner" or simp character, which often leads to the stereotype of all Sable players not being good because they're wasting time admiring their pixelated character too much, rather than actually playing the game.

Leon is similar. Leons often spend time hiding, because the game he originates from is a horror game where stealth and quiet matters. Factor in the influx of RE players to DBD when it first released to DBD, and you got a bunch of people crouching behind rocks and doing nothing all game because they assume that's how you win a game of DBD. Not that all super low MMR survivors don't do this, it's just especially prevalent with Leon.

This has been a thing for as long as I can remember, based on weird stereotypes that form around certain characters. The biggest one that comes to mind is the "Meghead," but most characters have some kind of stereotypical playstyle that's formed over the years (Blendette, Sabo Jake, Toxic Nea/Min, Baby Leon, Stevegull, etc.). It's weird and nonsensical, but it happens frequently enough that people can't separate these stereotypes from the characters, despite the character having literally no correlation to how the person will play.

I think it´s kinda a racist, sexist or homophobic related thing. Like people tunneling out Orela because she is transgender and stuff like this.

It is stupid and a childish behaviour which happens in the real world too. Example: Lol he reads Mangas in public so he must be… "generic words".

People tend to getting mad if someone else enjoys something they don´t like or are unsure about.

Had one night with a random who didn´t want to unhook a Claudette and I bet you can tell why he didn´t want to touch her.

I had such things aswell because my main is Cheryl and I heard some nasty things about young girls and that I must like them in real life.

Most of these people are sad trolls who try to make you feel bad for enjoying things.

Keep your head up and enjoy it.

I certainly dont help sterotype of the bill getting off the gen to save the guy who got hooked, if i dont do it who will? This healing build will not go to waste.

Main reason was that it was just a toxic swf. Sable specificly has a reputation of incompetent players due to her being one of the most commonly used survivor of all, so allot of the players that aren't good at the game yet often end up playing as her. But ive never seen people go that far myself. Even if they did, i woulda just stayed and turned it into a 1v1v3 lol theyd be dieing too for not getting you off the hook.

Infact i had the exact opposite where me and my sable mained friend had to scare off another player from the survivor lobby multiple times because we knew him to tunnel sables and let the rest go as killer.

That happened to me a few times when playing as Leon. But I'll tell you this - I tend to dodge Sable only because I'm tired of seeing her. The same thing happened back when Mikaela was the most popular one. It's one of those silly reasons why some players leave the lobby, but being mean to another person just because of the character they play is a whole different level, and those people really need to check themselves.

    • I can't judge, because I do the same thing. But less explicitly. When I see a Bill or a Rebecca, I simply change lobby. But it's something I do now for fun/superstition, without hatred or unpleasant attitudes. I simply walk away.🤣

As a Sable main, this statement makes me sad.
Jokes aside, I used to do this whenever I saw Megs or Kates in my lobbies, because I knew that I would somehow end up getting sandbagged. Nowadays, I really don't care about who's on my team. You never know, that random Sable you ended up dodging, she might have been a diamond in the rough.

I completely agree with you. I'm not underestimating players based on the survivors they play, we all know how the community perceptions age like milk.

I definitely lobby judge but it has more to do with cosmetics or items than anything. If you're a Nea or Feng in a bright cosmetic I expect you to be cracked. Default cosmetics, especially the blood-covered ones, make me sweat. Unless it's intentionally deceptive, it tells me you probably haven't played much. Keys also make me nervous.

But I'd never treat anyone differently in-game. I do the most for anyone until they prove they don't deserve it.

I started to play in an anonymous mode to repel more experienced survivors less than usual (have low hours related to them), yet it seems they don't enjoy Rebecca players as well xd

It’s ironical, because next match I pick Quentin, go to the same lobby, they accept it, and they die even faster in match or have shorter chases sometimes. Sometimes people just… dodge

Or another case: I can’t play not anon because people care about my hours too much and even can blame either in being noob, or in opposite being cheater/smurf. And when I play in anon people also have a tendency blaming me in cheats…

You just move onto the next match. You feed their ego giving into what they want. Although I probably would’ve just ratted the whole game for them saying that lol

its amazing how many people hate on sable lol. i main sable but i also play Lara, i dont get anywhere near as much hate as Lara…..im the same player, i play the same way but people are ok giving a Lara a chance.

I have noticed the ones that lobby dodge because there is a sable in the lobby are usually the ones to DC or go next when they get downed once. i actually tested this by switching to lara and hiding my name. i came across people that would usually dodge but they didnt. instead they went next in the match. So now i use sable to filter out the bad players, they can leave in the lobby instead of in the match.

i have also noticed a lot of people lobby dodge based on players hours….these are the ones that want to do nothing all match and ride off the good players for easy wins. my steam shows like 60 hours but pc gamepass i have 2.5k hours so people look at my profile on steam and think im new lol.

  • It was the right choice to leave. No one needs to deal with people who act like this. Not worth your or anyone's time.

    But.

As far as I understood, it happened once? I would not hang it that high or think too much about it, sometimes you just run into [redacted insult]. Happens in every online game.

Just keep leaving people who act like this from the start and join the next lobby.

Kinda the same thing with killers where people back then before the penalty would just straight up DC because they didn't like the killer you picked. All lot of the time it's stereotypes of a fraction of the player base that plays that survivor and every survivor has a stereotype to it just some are seen as not helpful or selfish even though if your in solo queue your probably dead in the end because the SWF won't rescue the random.

Overall play who you want I mean I play Jeff how I want since he was always a low picked survivor so I started maining him. But as long as your not being a massive jerk to feed the stereotype you can who you like.
