Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

You think 2v8 should be permanent?

Every survey related to 2v8 seem to often ask if you'd like the mode to be permanent or seasonal. I want to hear from those who like the mode what they think since its hard to get an overall consensus about it.

Personally, I don't see why it shouldn't be permanent at this point given the changes are small with each iteration. Most common reasoning I hear is that it could damage 1v4 lobbies (something 2v8 doesn't seem to do in my region even with the high player numbers), but we'll never know if that's truly the end result unless the mode stays for a longer period of time. Its been a whole year since the mode came out, there should be enough data to decide this sort of thing.

If you don't like the mode in any shape or form, and just want it to go away… That's fine, but its not the perspective I am looking for here.

If there could be a 1v4 version (most if not all killers available, no classes, all perks/items available, etc.) of 2v8 - then I would like it permanent. But 2v8 in its current iteration (arcadey) should be seasonal.

Nah once a month. 2 weeks at the start of this month. 2 weeks at the end of the next month. 2 weeks in the middle of the month after that and so on and so on.

I don't think its realistic to expect 1v4 perks to ever come to 2v8, given they would need to be bug proof and balanced for the mode regardless. But (if we're being VERY positive here), eventually new classes could reflect the most popular perks like Flashbangs or even bloody Dead Hard and offer its own wide selection of playstyles.

As for killers, I don't think ALL of them can make it into the mode (Plague or certain licenses) but most of them seem pretty plausible to. I just wonder why they haven't done so many easy picks already like Unknown or Clown.

My guess for the Unknown is that he would make it very easy to team up with the other killer and just double tap everyone with his clones to cut off looping survivors. They wouldn’t even get 1 loop off once he shows up.

Clown could be performance- imagine a cluster of survivors all constantly getting hit with his Pepto Bismal bottles. That could drop some serious frames.

    Both speculative theories ofc.

I think its the contrary for Unknown, with 8 players, it would be ridiculously easy to get rid of his clones. Its similar to how Trapper can get completely countered a few players focus in stalking and disarming his traps. Even then, I honestly don't think they would do anything Blight or Wesker can't already do. If anything it would make it for some very entertaining downs.

As for Clown, would performance really be that much of an issue? I never seen any sort of problems like that when playing 2v8 (then again, I actually saved money on a good PC).

And its fine to speculate, its what allows to view the possible benefits or grievances of the mode.

    • In my opinion, it's better than staying seasonal. I can compare it to Fortnite: the OG Fortnite was so successful/appreciated that Devs made it a permanent mode. After a short time, the OG mode lost all its appeal and all the players moved on to other modes. So I think 2VS8 would have been successful initially, but after a while, completing a lobby of survivors will be really difficult.

Uknown would be double harmless in 2v8 than in 1v4 because his teleports would exist for few tens of seconds and he would need like 2 seconds cooldown on uvx to be able to use it effectively because getting rid of uvx effect would be way easier and the fact many people play escapist class that has sprintburst on comand and gives it to other survivors he would get countered more than nemesis or pyramidhead with prerunning. He could get multiple survivors effected by uvx on gen with snipe but then getting hit with it again you would need clueless survivors which would bet hit by everything at that point.

I think it should, It really has everything this game needs in it. A better balanced alternative to the perk system, a new hooking mechanic, a reason for killer not to slug (because you can nearly guarantee a hook) and just more fun.

All I'd say it should have is 1 perk slot with a small number of nerfed perks just to help players differentiate their playstyle and slightly make it more in depth.

I prefer it to stay a temporary mode. But I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes permanent one day.

I would fully support it if it had more classes, maps, and more killers to choose from. I feel like that's the direction it's going in as well. I'd expect it to become permanent once that criteria is satisfied.

I mean, if they're just gonna keep adding 1 or 2 killers every 3 months they may as well make the mode permanent. There's also no perks to worry about so it is pretty good for new/casual players.

I believe it shouldn't. 1v4, although it far more stressful than 2v8, its more of a complete experience.

As have said, the impact on queu times would be abysmal.

Yeah it can be permanent when every killer and map gets added

I really don't. It splits the player base and deviates too much from the normal game.

Fortnite isn't the best comparison because they also added a no build mode which is arguably more popular then the standard mode.

I would only play 2v8 if it got added to dbd on the regular. To me, it feels a lot more casual (less personal) than 1v4. My concern is I have doubts there are enough players in dbd to be able to have multiple modes like fortnite.

I feel like it being seasonal is better.

The novelty wears off after a few weeks and I kinda wanna go back to playing more regular DBD without having to face SWF SWAT teams.

In its current form I feel like it doesn't overstay its welcome, and is something to look forward to.
