Why are there totems in 2v8?
What use does it have other than to give bloodpoints?

I assume with the spaghetti code that it was easier to leave the totems in their current tiles, or that removing them broke something else. Personally, I'm hoping for boon/hex classes at some point, but I won't hold my breath.

🤣 makes sense. I would rather keep the totems in than removing totems which has a probable cause to breaking the entire game.

Load bearing totem

Ironically so true if they removed them it might break everything or snap Wesker in half.
But I do like to think they kept them cause Boon and Hex classes are coming someday

This does bring up an interesting question. How would hex totems be intergrated into 2v8 would they make a 2v8 specific hex or just port over something like NOED?

So that my useless teammates can infuriate me when I see them cleansing totems all match instead of helping their team win the game.
I would be all for taking them out of 2v8 mode, but I think a better solution would be to make them more interesting. Something like giving individual survivors or the team some type of temporary buffs when they cleanse a totem. Or automatically uncage a survivor. There are a lot of interesting things totems could do to make them a relevant part of the 2v8 mode.

I would imagine It would be like something like Hex Plaything and Pentimento as a combo class

Maybe they are there for when totem classes are added? Just a thought

There is also obsession and by mod statement in bug report was that there is no obsession mechanic in 2v8 but still every match someone has the obsession marker around their portrait.

maybe it balances the numbers by encouraging survivors to make inefficient plays in the name of Bloodpoints.
