I have a question for Skull Merchant haters !

what is it specifically you hate/hated about Skull Merchant? because i fear the developers have missed the mark… again.

to me, it was her entire power — the whole thing with scan lines injuring people, being forced to crouch mid chase to avoid being scanned and losing all my distance and getting m1'd anyway. i don't really care how bad they make her, as long as scan lines are a part of her power, i will not like her.

I would prefer a complete rework. i'm god sick of dash killers, but i would prefer dash merchant over what she is now. the drone scan lines do not work as long as you're wanting people to enjoy versing her.

the status effects are annoying as hell as well. like… what do you mean i have to crouch to not get put into deep wound? and then when i'm in deep wound, i still have to crouch to avoid being hindered? just ######### spawn me in on the hook, she's so ######### boring.

only having 1 scan line is just making her half as boring as she was before. people will still dc, she cannot be rectified.

I have her at p100 so im not one of the haters. But i do want a rework. I like her because of the character design. The power design tho... the one thing that ive seen most complain about with her is that her power is Boring, like Wraith's mori boring. Shes like a hybrid stealth/trap/loop denial killer but shes the only stealth killer that isnt a big license, shes the only stealth killer that just places objects as an ability. She doesnt stare at you to ambush or make you want to break line of sight in chase or anything, just plops an object and makes the tile unusable. Shes the only trap killer with no strategy or carefully planned setup. Her entire gameplay is just m1, and plop an object anywhere in a loop. Even her stealth is the most tedious to use out of all the others as its temporary and very short and has to be spammed to maintain. Everybody else can just push the button and stay in stealth, even chucky has an addon making it last quite a while.

So yea her most commonly hated trait is how basic, simple, and boring she is in terms of gameplay mechanics. Even i wouldn't mind a dash merchant as she can finally make use of her oversized powered claw blade that so far just works like a knife lol

As you mentioned, it's the entire power. It's definitely not as bad as before; it used to be much, much worse.

Skull Merchant's design will always be poor, no matter how many tweaks they make. It's unfun for the same reason that a killer with a power that just by playing them randomly downs a survivor on the map every 5 minutes. Would this be strong? Not really. Would it be annoying as there's nothing you can do? Yes.

She needs a full power rework.

I really dislike that she gets almost permanent undetectable. You can never be sure whether she is close or not and my teammates constantly get grapped of Gens.

    • My opinion. I don't like playing against Skull Merchant because I like looping. As soon as you dare to do something similar to a loop, she drops one of her drones, and the wisest choice is to change loops and move on to the next one. She's a killer who really encourages "press W" gameplay. Paradoxically, when the drone attaches to my arm and I enter "deep wound," I feel happy because I can finally play the way I want. For the same reason, I don't like Knight and (although to a lesser extent) I don't like Artist.

Going off the past tense here:

    Monotony.

I was in a game once with the SM defending a 3 gen. We'd go to one side, repair gens, she'd push us off while the survivors hit the other side. She'd then move to them, while we went back in.

    Repeat, again and again.

I knew we were going to win, barring one of us getting so bored they just quit. But it was going to take a good while to slowly work those gens up.

Who would enjoy something so monotonous?

I wonder if you'd get more fulfillment from her design, if you think of her more like Ted Bundy.

A high functioning, attractive psychopath that most people would not hesitate to trust because she is attractive and seemingly has everything she could ever want... but kills people brutally solely because it is amusing to her.

Personally I don't like killers who can get injuries or deaths by doing very little themsleves. Pig's RBTs are the biggest example. Knight's guards as well, and Sadako's condemned. I find this to be uninteresting design and I don't personally play as killers like this. I want to perform the actions myself. Disabling her drones over and over is so lame to me too.

I also think her physical design and lore are cringe as all hell but that's a different issue than gameplay.

That being said, I don't have super strong feelings about her because I've probably seen 10 or less SMs in my last 1000 survivor matches. It remains to be seen how annoying I find her if she gets more use moving forward.

There are killers that have to pernament stealth like ghostface and pig so I dont think merchant is the problem why your teammates are getting pulled from gens its just lack of being sharp in the match against stealth killer which is thing that you must do against most of stealth killers in order to not get grabed or give him easy hit but Idk how you get grabed when you are n open simple answer is not paying attention (simular as wondering why that car hit you when you crossed road and didnt even stop and made sure no car is there that could hit you, same logic just not paying attention which is thing you must do against stealth killers), on indoor maps chance of being hit is way higher and to be grabed to but easy solution is being heatly and look behind your self so you can release m1 from gen and get hit instead of grab.

You would be suprised I still think people react to her same as against ghoul but difference between her and ghoul is simular as between trapper and blight its just the fact she is probably worst killer in the game so survivors should be happy she is just weak m1 killer and her drone just crouch you must do it again vecna to or some dash killers on stairs or against nemi when there is some object between you and him I just dont get why this thing is so bad because you must do it against her but doing it against way more powerfull killers its fine, thats like being happy to go agains blight even the fact you want to win but then be angry to go against legion but difference is against legion if you do gens and can loop than you will more likely escape than against blight.

it's quite the conundrum if you ask me. her stealth is basically her only redeeming quality for me. I feel we've reached a critical mass of auras than we don't even need old Object anymore but now you don't even know what the aura triggers are anymore, which makes it feel almost impossible to try anything against 4 man's. as far as I'm concerned, the drones are just pocket Insidious

I do have Ghostfaces pay to win skin but I don't wanna play him. I feel like SMs stealth is as divisive as whether or not Trickster should be 110 or 115

Still horrendously annoying to play against. Plus, a lot of her defenders are kinda the worst and almost fanatically loyal to a made-up person.

For me and the only problem I found with her first rework was that she had two scan lines AND could rotate the drones manually. Getting claw trapped was way too easy, and very unfun to deal with when you got hindered and she got haste

Whats ghostfaces pay to win skin? Do you mean bush hunter the brown one?

Singularity has more counters even back then than Skull Merchant had. I never had matches that literally got slowed so badly that you did not do any progress against Singularity but I had them against Skull Merchant. To this day she is the only killer who I have had a match that ended because of the server time ran out.

To answer the op's question I have nothing against Skull Merchant I did not really have anything against her even when she could do the 3-gen lockdown as if you had decent teammates it could be broken eventually but with most random teams it was just waste of time. I am more against waste of time than any character in this game as I want to play the game not watch someone patrol a three gen until the time runs out or the survivors just give up.

I can't speak for anyone else, but personally I dislike SM because her power is boring. She's encouraged to plop out drones off cooldown for constant undetectable, and she can stack them in areas to make basic map traversal (in or out of chase) super annoying. Hacking drones to disable them is cool on paper, but in practice 45 seconds isn't that long, and she can instantly recall a hacked drone whenever she wants and just replace it, so it often ends up being a waste of time. The chase is just simple M1 with the occasional "spam drone rotation for a scan". And especially in solo queue, undetectable killers on certain maps are snoozefests as your options are either give them a free tag/down by working gens, or be boring and hold a safe spot whenever you have no information on the HUD to know where they are.

To add onto the Singularity problem, he is the main reason why Haywire must stay awful.

I would like it if her power encouraged placing down drones ahead of time like traps, instead of plopping them down to force survivors to leave a loop.

I don't hate her any more. Not since they stopped her being a three gen holder. I find her very boring to face, but its not hatred.
