Killer Concept: The Harrower
Hello DBD Community!
I have mocked up a new killer strictly for fun. The Harrower is an original eldritch terror that is incomprehensible. Please tell me what you think in the comments!
THE HARROWER — “The Thing That Listens”Killer Role: Presence / Reality Distortion
Difficulty: ★★★★☆
LOREIn the deepest trenches of the ocean, an anomaly was discovered—an impossible geometry suspended in total darkness. Researchers approached it thinking it was a structure. It was not.
It was a being that sensed consciousness like sound in water.
When they touched it, it heard them—every thought, every fear—until not one mind remained intact.
The Entity did not need to lure The Harrower.
It simply opened a door, and the creature slithered into the fog, eager to feed on the resonance of human thought.
The Harrower warps space through Resonant Rifts, holes between dimensions that respond to sound and thought.
Core Mechanic — Resonant Rifts
Place up to 3 Rifts at a time.
Rifts are floating void-mouths, 1.5m wide, anchored to surfaces or ground.
Rifts have two states:
Dormant (default)
They sit silently until triggered.
Triggered (when a survivor makes noise nearby):
- Fast vault
- Loud noise notification
- Generator skillcheck fail/healing skillcheck fail
- Sprinting within 6m
When triggered, the Rift opens for 5 seconds.
Triggered Rift EffectsWhen a Rift opens:
1. Spatial Compression (Area Effect)
Survivors within 8m suffer Severe Hindered (25%) for 1.5 seconds.
(A short, sharp punish — not a slow, oppressive ability.)
2. The Harrower gains “Vector Pull”
For 5 seconds, The Harrower can dash toward that Rift from anywhere on the map.
- Dash speed: 5.4 m/s (slightly faster than survivor sprinting)
- The Harrower phases through walls during the dash (but cannot attack).
- Exits the dash in a brief recovery animation (0.5s).
3. Survivors cannot fast vault within 10m of an opened Rift
They can only slow vault until it closes.
This gives chase manipulation but not teleport-level map control.
SPECIAL ATTACK: Spatial MawActivate after exiting a dash.
The Harrower tears open a localized spatial fracture in a 10m line in front of it.
- Startup: 0.4s
- Range: 10m
- Width: 1.5m
- Cooldown: 4 seconds
If the fracture hits a survivor, they suffer:
- Injured
- Disoriented status effect for 5 seconds (controls are inverted)
- Leave no scratch marks for 4 seconds
The longer a Rift remains placed, the louder it “resonates” with survivor thought.
For each second a Rift exists:
- It gains 1 Resonance, up to 60.
- At 60, it becomes Overloaded.
Overloaded Rifts:
- Trigger automatically every 20 seconds (even without survivor noise)
- When they trigger, highlight the nearest survivor within 24m for 1.5 seconds
- Survivors hear heavy distortions, warning them it’s activating
Survivors can banish a Rift by completing a 3s interaction.
This resets its Resonance to zero and removes it.
This makes Rift management a survivor-side objective like a soft mini-game — but simple and readable.
MOVEMENT & STATS- Speed: 4.4 m/s
- Terror Radius: 32m
- Height: Very tall (similar to Nemesis)
Violet Carving – “Geometric Tooth” (Purple)
Rifts apply Oblivious for 8 seconds when they trigger.
Sunken Polyp (Green)
Rifts gain Resonance 20% faster.
Iridescent Maw-Shard (Iri)
The first survivor to banish a Rift becomes Marked for the rest of the trial.
When hit by Spatial Maw, they become Exposed for 10 seconds.
1. Constraint of Self
When a survivor interacts with anything (gen, heal, totem, Rift, chest), they suffer Exhausted for 3/4/5 seconds.
Small tempo payback.
2. Prolonged Echo
When you hook a survivor, all survivors not in chase suffer reduced action speed by 8/9/10% for 12 seconds.
Oppression-lite, no gen regression required.
3. Geometric Terror
After breaking a pallet or door, your Terror Radius becomes warped for 20/25/30 seconds:
- Survivors hear directionless TR audio
- They cannot determine distance by sound alone
(Does not hide TR or give stealth. Pure disorientation.)
