Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

High ping/VPN killers

since no one else is going to state this- I will.

we need to get rid of all these high ping / vpn abusers.

EVERY single game I played today killer had ping of 100+

I have a proactive suggestion or 3

1- let us see the ping of ALL players in the pregame lobby

2- give us an option to turn on a setting where ping above 100 cannot be paired with us

3-lower your ping limit allotment

killers have been getting free hits, using high ping to their advantage. Not saying everyone needs to have great internet but it’s kinda necessary when playing online games to prevent bugs, glitches etc.

what are your thoughts on high ping ?

it's the best mindgame strat out there

you dont need a vpn nor even a bad internet, just play on wifi

you'll be rubberbanding all over the place and the survivors will run into you or stand still trying to figure out where you're going on their screen

at the same time, sometimes the rubberbanding works against you and sends you back when you could've gotten a hit

is it legal? i don't think it is. should it exist? no. is it funny? Yes, because this is the most consistent and funniest way to accidently outplay good loopers who dont fall for mindgames

they wouldnt do it because it would discourage ppl from playing…

not like it already makes people several reason not to play survivor.

Been saying this for years. Worst part is that a LOT of streamers are practically promoting it, and shamelessly at that. Many random content creators I watch have that little boxy packetloss icon alongside their lag icon. Now… I know for a fact that this comes from cheap/free vpn cause I have 'tested' this myself, just to see what its like from that end. They also act all stupid when you point it out… "Nah brah, just DBD server tings, git outa here brah!". Been playing since 2016 with thousands of hours, and I rarely if ever saw that icon for myself without abusing VPN.

Survivors do this too btw, but when they abuse connections its usually lagswitch instead, since that is more effective for their side.

Personally I just don't play against it. I'll go afk and make a cupa coffee. Cheaters can play against bots and Afk'ers. They obviously want an easy game after all. and BHVR doesnt care about it, so there is nothing else we can do.

high ping is a HUGE disadvantage as both survivor and killer. as survivor your button inputs become delayed in game so when you loop and window vault it's slower. when you are killer you get "fake" pallet stunned so when you should be getting a hit at a pallet that a survivor throws at the same time you M1 if your ping is red bar the survivor wins it and makes an injured sound effect but the hit doesn't register and you get robbed due to the ping. so for the most part it's a major disadvantage to play high ping.

dsync should never be based on the killer, a proper server should be selected for both sides, and dsync should be base on the lower ping not the opposite.

With a simple lag compensation, which DbD seemingly has, high ping favors the proactive side, the one that shoots or chases, since it's easier to catch up if you see a delayed image of your target, and it's enough to hit the client-side image for the server to count it as a legit hit (which is the case in DbD). In shooter games it leads to the "how did you kill me when I was behind the wall" effect, which works both ways as all players can shoot, but in DbD high ping obviously gives a huge advantage to one side. In decently made shooter games, however, there is a limit of how much a delay is allowed for the lag compensation to work, specifically to combat abusers, and there is nothing like this in DbD: if you have a 30000 ms ping, you will see half a minute old image of survivors, and still be able to hit them through it.
