The First – Speed & Chase Concern

Hello Behaviour Interactive team,

Thank you for introducing The First — the design and abilities are impressive. However, there is a major gameplay issue affecting the killer’s effectiveness.

The current movement speed of 4.4 m/s makes chases extremely difficult. Survivors can hold W and run continuously from the start, which prevents the killer from effectively applying pressure and wastes significant chase time.

This significantly reduces The First’s threat level compared to other killers, making it feel underpowered in actual gameplay.

I strongly suggest increasing the movement speed to 4.6 m/s,
or increase vines range and increase vines cooldown too

which would:

  • Allow effective chasing and pressure
  • Maintain balance without overpowering
  • Improve overall player experience

This feedback reflects common community concerns, not just personal opinion.

Thank you for considering this.

Best regards,

Karim

No, he is fine with 4.4. Like Reverse already said, he can down you from distance and even from different elevations. In general, his power is never completely useless on a loop (e.g. Huntress and Deathslinger have these loops where they cannot use power and catching up takes forever) and it encourages the player in a healthy way to use the power instead of running down the survivor or zoning them. He also has a mobility tool that prevents survivors from holding W since he cana catch up on them. The mobility tool, despite survivors can hear it, is also good enough to check spots quickly in order to look for survivors. In addition, many maps have the feature that survivors cannot hold W forever, at some point, they are either cornered or need to play a loop. The few maps where holding W forever works (Midwich and RPD) have the advantage for Vecna that they have many nasty bottle necks where dodging his M2 is really difficult.

Overall, 4.4 is more than fair and a huge balance aspect. If they ever made him 4.6, his power needs a huge nerf and that would result in bigger balance or fun problems.

    Hello everyone,

I understand some players feel that The First’s speed of 4.4 m/s is natural because of the large range of the Vine attacks.

However, even with the extended range, chases are still inefficient. Survivors can hold W and run continuously, which means the killer loses significant time trying to catch them. The large range does not fully compensate for the slow base speed in actual gameplay.

Increasing the movement speed to 4.6 m/s would:

    • Make chases more meaningful and effective
    • Keep balance without overpowering the killer
    • Preserve the intended threat level while maintaining unique abilities

Additionally, the Traversal Ability has a long cooldown and slow exit speed, which makes it ineffective enough in gameplay and does not compensate for the killer’s slow base movement during chases.

This feedback reflects common community concerns, not just personal opinion.

    Thank you for considering this.

Bro his range is crazy, he should absolutely not be 4.6

I understand The First has a large Vine range and a mobility tool, making him effective in loops. However, even with these tools, survivors can hold W and run continuously, which makes chases inefficient and reduces the killer’s practical effectiveness. A small increase to 4.6 m/s would make chases more meaningful without breaking balance, while keeping his unique abilities impactful.

  • Imo the problem isn't him being 4.4 m/s. Its that using your m2 continually in chase slows you down SO MUCH. Survivors gain huge distance because you are basically stopped in place when you use the vine attack.

    Hi,

I see your point that the base speed of 4.4 m/s itself isn’t the issue. I agree that using M2 continually during a chase slows The First down significantly, and survivors can gain a lot of distance because the killer is almost stopped while performing the Vine attack.

This is exactly why I suggested a small increase to 4.6 m/s. It wouldn’t make him overpowered because the Vine range and mobility tools are already strong, but it would make chases feel more fluid and effective without breaking balance.

    Thanks for your perspective!

nah his main ability is strong enough to warrant 4.4 if he has no changes

The difference between 4.4 and 4.6m/s is much more than just a small increase, it would instantly make him very overtuned. Given how short his attack cooldown is and being able to consistently hit through walls, the lower 4.4 movement speed is necessary for this killer.

I get what you mean, his power is strong enough.
But my point is mainly about the survivors who don’t use any real counterplay and just hold W the whole chase.

if First moves at 115 I feel he would use his power to zone you into taking damage, whereas as 110 i feel he has to hit with his power more.

Survivors running away is definitely just a core dbd problem as it's the best counter to 99% of killers
