A fond farewell Ladies and Gentlemen
Hi all!
It seems my ban was for a month, and just like my last one I was considering appealing, but over this past month I've found the time to really stop and think about my experience in DBD and here the forums, and I've decided to move on.
I first want to say thank you all. The responses I saw in what I will colloquially refer to "the thread"... It was very humbling reading everyone's posts and support, and it was very touching to see how so many people thought so highly of me. I didn't at all expect the community to respond how it did, nor to see so many people be so kind and respectful, and I am not ashamed to admit it genuinely nearly made me cry.
With that said, I am deeply saddened to see that as a direct result of that thread, that other members of the community have been hit as well… to think others got banned as a result of defending me, it leaves me with a heavy heart. With that in mind, and with careful consideration I have decided to leave the forums and quit DBD, at least for the the foreseeable future.
I don't want to make this thread to stir things up, or to leave things on a bitter note by ragging on everything, but the primary reasons are that I do not feel I am aligned with the game or these forums anymore.
DBD itself has changed a lot, even within the relatively short time I've been playing the game, and I always was fascinated with DBDs history and evolution. Talking to the people here and learning off the numerous veterans we are lucky to have here has been a genuine joy, and certainly was a highlight of the experience. With that said though, I have been disappointed with the direction of the game.
While majority of my time in DBD is Survivor, I am also a regular Pig, Trapper, Pre-rework Myers, Hag and Skull Merchant player. I fell in love the raw m1 mind games and gameplay of DBD, and the setup/payoff style of these characters struck a particular chord with me. I play off meta Survivor perks because I enjoy playing m1 mind games without the crutches of exhaustion and second chance perks (and yes, in SoloQ).
Needless to say we don't get killers like this anymore, the game is getting too fast and optimised for killers like these. Instead every killer is cut from the same cookie cutter high mobility/high loop lethality cloth, and the power creep of the game is just getting worse and worse. It feels like the killers I do enjoy are systematically being cut out of the game.
- Pig is power crept and always under threat of having her RBTs gutted.
- Trapper is power crept to oblivion and still steps in his own traps.
- Myers gameplay and the character himself is gone, the fragrent tuft doesn't give the old satisfying stalk gameplay he had.
- Hag is power crept and gets utterly demolished by S-tech to the point she's a meme without rusty shackles.
- Skull Merchant literally got taken behind the shed and was shot in the knees before being left to rot.
This is disheartening to say the least, however I felt like I was making whatever small difference I could by talking about and advocating for m1 killers here in the forums...
However with my recent ban, I don't feel like I have a place here. The ban escalation system we have here in the forums is completely unforgiving. I have never been malicious or intentionally offensive, in fact most of my infractions were me trying to be friendly and breaking tension... or rightly calling someone out for a blatantly obtuse and highly hostile stance against opposing arguments. I have strived to make these forums a better place by citing evidence, engaging in fair and honest discussion and encouraging others to do the same. Despite that, I have now served 2 separate 1 month bans, and am now on my final warning before being permanently banned.
While I won't discuss my infractions as that is against the rules, I personally feel that each escalation on my account could have just as easily been solved with a quiet warning, and am of the opinion this unmoving ban escalation system is fundamentally broken whilstsoever it is so casually applied on the whims and subjective opinions of the moderation team. The fact these strikes cannot ever be removed from your account implies that they should be applied VERY sparingly, and yet they seem anything but.
Suffice to say this leaves me in the scenario where I now have to pussyfoot around and tread on eggshells to ensure I don't say anything that can be twisted and distorted into something negative, and if I'm not free to discuss this game honestly, earnestly and impassioned, then there is no point discussing it at all. I will not have my voice be held at ransom and second guess everything I say for fear of another unreasonable ban hammer landing on me for keeps.
I want to close by saying, I am very thankful to everyone here in the forums. I have genuinely loved my time with DBD and don't regret any of the time I've poured both into it, and discussing and learning it here in the forums. I have made many very good friends as a result, and despite how things have ended, I look back on DBD fondly.
Have a good one all!
Signed a humble Pig/Kate main,
UndeddJester

You could just advocate for anti changes AND buff low tiers.
This would make both sides happy, survivors get to play the game in a more enjoyable way and low tier killers get properly compensated and give out more variety.
Heck, they could nerf toolboxes and sabos so the killers cant just scapegoat to "but this problem exist", so you can just work around it when killers or survivors will most likely abuse the changes.
Instead what we got is, soloq being nerfed, like 3 times and thus low tiers having no reason in bhvr's POV since, stat wise they are fine, so they dont have a reason, to be buffed.

Indescribably tragic.

It's been an honor reading your insightful feedback.
I think I'm speaking for a majority here, that it will be missed (at least by those that actually care about improving the game).
Now for the moderators that are undeniably partially responsible for this: How many great people have to leave until you learn? We are almost 10 years in and this is the state of the forums? You want to look into the escalation system... NOW? Sometimes too late is too late. You can forgive someone once, sometimes multiple times. But at some point enough is enough.
This is not how you should treat your most loyal and constructive supporters. You should be ashamed of yourself.
I'd say that you should learn from this, but from the experience I gathered over the years being here, nothing will change.
"I think we did a pretty good job so far."

You weren't just a longtime contributor, you also always put a lot of time and thought into your posts. Lots of regulars are tired and jaded, but your posts always showed how much you still cared and how much hope you still had in the game. The system has cost us a good one, we're sorry to see you go!

You will definitely be missed. GLHF on whatever you end up playing.

See you around, man. You'll be missed!

Good luck Jester. I always enjoyed your level headed and well constructed posts.
You'll be missed.

Here's to you, J.

One of the reasons the forum is a joke i have heard and people have left is literally the escalation system. I dont know how the devs and mods take this long to catch on to its a problem with how many great people we lost over the years. Most of which were very kind and they cant even solve the occasional gore post. Ive pushed for these fixes before and its always "we are aware" so im slowly getting to that point. Alls good friend. As someone who is on that walking on eggshells thing right now as well. It sucks.

Sorry things have gone this way and I too wish you the best in whatever is next

We didn't always agree and that's cool because you were a reasonable and friendly forum member. Sad to see you go, and I hope the escalation system gets a massive reassessment.

This is what BHVR wants unfortunately. After 2025, it's more than clear that they want the game to be in a bad state and they want to be on bad terms with their audience. After years of hoping they'd see the light and putting in more effort than was ever necessary to mend the relationship, they've proven that they are the only ones that matter. Damage their ego and you're out. Leaving is the best decision, since they don't really care if we're here or not or what we have to say anyway. Best of luck to you moving forward.

Thank you for being here @UndeddJester
We are certainly going to miss you, and your well-thought out takes on different matters.
And remember, we stood up for you in "the Thread". It was the tipping point where we realized how bad the system on the forums has gotten. You will always be our hero, the one who had to fall, to pave the way for better times ahead. Also, if you feel like chatting for old time sake, drop by the Discord channel :)

Sad to see you go, but glad to know it was on your own terms. I'll miss seeing your input on discussions, and I agree completely on your statement regarding the ban escalation system.
Best of luck outside the fog; hopefully the game and forums get to the place eventually where you'll find yourself among our ranks once more.

I don't know what happened exactly but i am sad to see you go. You had constructive ideas and presented them in a professional way. I really appreciated your post that demonstrated the idea of adjusting Chucky's speed curve which ended up being the way they went.
I can't blame you for your disdain for the game. It's something i came to the realisation of aswell, they balance the game in a way that favours what the majority like. They just dont value all characters the same, it's quite sad.
I agree the forum escalation system is too unforgiving. I am also one more offence from being permanently banned too. My 2 infractions were years apart. I did ask about this and they told me if it's your last offence they will be more lenient before permanently banning you which isn't the most reassuring but it's something i guess.11 -
Goodbye, @UndeddJester . I haven't been on the forums much lately and apparently I missed a bunch, as I popped back in and saw this. I'm sorry to see you go, but it's good you're looking after yourself: the reward for being a long-time constructive member should not be an uncertain future of walking on eggshells. I hope any other communities you participate in will reward you better for your contributions.

I'm sorry to see you go. Take care of yourself, and if you ever decide to come back one day, we will be here to welcome you with open arms.

Farewell and may our Lord and Savior Lightborn always be with you when you put on shades, for example when driving into the sunset. 🫲😎🫱

I'm sorry to see you go, but I can't say I don't understand your reasoning. Mandy did say that moderation would be more careful with bans (can't remember exactly how it was phrased), but without specifics, it's hard to know exactly what that means. I understand not wanting to continue your time here, when you could be one move from getting unfairly banned.
As sad as I will be to see you go, I can't dispute your reasoning. All I can do is wish you all the best, and hope that the world extends the same sort of kindness to you, that you freely offer to others.
May your future be bright, UndeddJester.

Unknown being the first one to say goodbye is just the BHVR forum special, huh.
I feel similarly as you do Jester but it's always sad to see a steady personality leave. I hope 2026 will be kind to you.
What are you going to do now? Deadpool drops this Friday on Rivals
