Do we even have any hope in BHVR anymore?

There's so many things BHVR has been messing up, and has messed them up for a long long time now.

I don't think I see anyone trusting them to make good decisions or develop the game better at all anymore. The trust is lost and the community has no expectation of BHVR stepping up.

  • Fix bugs? No.
  • Quality of life fixes that work? Not a chance.
  • Adjust killers who need buffs/nerfs/tweaks? Wouldn't bet on it.
  • Rewrite the game code to make development easier? You're more likely to win the lottery 3 times.

Again, the trust is lost and no one really has hope for BHVR doing good things anymore, the assumption is that they will fail, they will suck, and we'll all move on.

Thoughts?

why bother when there is no competition? Why bother when people are still playing the game?

It's not that I don't have hope left for the game or for BHVR. It's more that I know they will never again take risks to improve the game. I can't really be too critical of them because it's not a little indie game these days. A lot of livelihoods are at stake and they have investors and collaborators to keep happy, etc.

But it does mean that all they'll ever do is tinker around the edges of the big problems and make meaningless adjustments that won't change a thing. Of course, they'll still make small uncontroversial QoL improvements that everyone can get behind. But the big issues will remain untouched and actually might get even worse over time. I feel like the game is in a worse state in early 2026 in all the ways that matter to me than it was at the beginning of 2025. Based on last year's trend, I think they will continue to listen to all the wrong voices and make the game a worse experience for the average / casual Survivor player (I do think Killer is in a decent spot right now). The Survivor side has felt neglected for some time now.

I kind of understand now why they stick so relentlessly to 4 chapters a year, pumping out a ton of licensed content they don't have the resources to keep on top of. It's because the game isn't growing sustainably with decent player retention rates, but with a high turnover of new players that burn out quickly and leave when they see the game's faults are never likely to be addressed (it took me 3 years to finally realise all this, but what can I say except I'm slow on the uptake).

  • The upcoming patch seems to have basically nothing besides the new content and 2v8. Tbh that is pretty disappointing. Usually there would be some change with big patches at least.

Why would they do anything differently if the player count is staying relatively stable? Yeah, there are some people here on the forum who are frustrated with the game, but apparently there are still a lot of people out there who are happy playing the game despite all its issues. BHVR won’t take any of these issues seriously unless there is a significant exodus of players.

Nah not really. Unless something really bad happens with the balance or something like that the last year of screwups will just become the new normal for DBD.

I expect that we'll get new content, it will create more variety, but will the game ever take the next step? I've given up on that.

The QoL really caused me to lose a lot of faith in them. There were certain issues that I thought were unsolvable, just part of the game, and with healthy players counts unlikely they were going to attempt a radical leap.

But they said they were going to solve those issues. And they didn't, some of them they dropped in shockingly quick spans of time while giving reasonings that made no sense. The changes that did go through were the obvious things that people had been telling them to do for years, making it seem even more aggravating that we had to wait so long for it.

So new content? Eh, sure. But I think they should avoid ever saying 'quality of life' again.
