Give Soloq communication.
Only the soloq guys who bought the game and simply want to play survivor are left out. Simply let me communicate with my teammates in the match, which SWF can do right now anyway... Are the devs scared of making the game unbalanced? Because the game is already unbalanced. Even Identity V and your own mobile game (before it was shut down) had communication. It's not a huge demand; it's a basic multiplayer feature.

I would really like chat wheel, something like mobile version had.

I don't disagree, but I do feel it's a little more nuanced than that.
For starters, you have to be careful which communication forms you give out. If you want it to help, you can't put in voice chat and call it a day- something like a quick chat wheel would be much smarter.
But the other thing I'd mention is that solo queue needs information gain other than just communication methods, as well. Being able to see your teammates' perks in the match details screen and possibly a partial basekit Kindred would still be quite useful and healthy even with a chat wheel- you can't always rely on players wanting to communicate, most games will have some form of passive info gain like that as well.
Overall though, I do agree.

Despite optimal survivor gameplay being a flowchart for the most part, you're rarely going to get all 4 survivors to agree on the best play. Differing playstyles and goals already lead to a lot of conflict in survivor lobbies.
Adding comms isn't going to stop someone from being bad in chase, inefficient on gens, less hungry for a flashlight save, etc. And I personally don't want someone with an exaggerated vocal fry and a bizarre vampire accent/Twitch accent where they over-enunciate consonants and add -uh to the end of every sentence in my ear.

That is a separate issue of matchmaking. Nothing to do with what this topic is.
I also wouldnt want such a voice, so that's why I would mute them if it happened. Because any game iwth voice chat also has the option to mute.
Regardless it doesnt have to be a voice chat. There are other forms of communication.

the only way solo q is solvable is vc idc what anyone says all this wasted resources on anti tunneling, slugging things that were completely made up and blown out of proportion didn’t need to happen ADD VOICE CHAT AS A LIMITED TIME MODE TEST IT. Instead of saying it’ll never be in the game and never giving a reason as to why.
-7 -
Voice chat won't solve any of those problems, is the thing, and I can give you a reason why.
If voice chat is understood to be The Mechanism by which information is shared, everyone in every trial needs to be using it. If we even want it to appreciably help, most people in most trials need to be using it.
However, ability to engage with voice chat this way is completely dependant on both you and your teammates meeting the following criteria:- Everyone has to speak the same language
- Everyone has to own a mic, and feel comfortable speaking into it to strangers
- Nobody can have crazy noise pollution (loud music, parents/roommates arguing, etc)
- Nobody can be toxic enough to warrant muting
If any of those conditions aren't met, suddenly voice chat isn't conveying the information it needs to, which means it isn't doing its job. Voice chat, in every other game, is an optional bonus capable of providing extra coordination, but isn't the fundamental source of important information. DBD needs that more solid foundation before voice chat could even be considered— which isn't even getting into the conversation of whether we should have voice chat for the game's tone and atmosphere.

Whats worse: most people wont accept quietly that people play differently. They will tell them (nice or not so nice) what they think about it.
Four people are too much anyway for normal communication. You need someone who takes the lead otherwise its gets confusing.
1 -
people always say things like this like there wouldnt be an option to mute if you dont want to hear it. Also you dont need all 4 survivors to agree on the best play, a simple call out where a hex totem is would benefit all massively. And for the people that dont want want talk, they dont have to, if even 1 player has comms while the other 3 just listen to call outs it can be a game changer.
Currently, my view of solo is that it is not a team. Many things point to this being the case from MMR gains/loss to BP rewards to personal goal like challenges to not being able to communicate. People then get annoyed when i play the game this way, as a solo player and focus on my own escape above everyone elses. Yet when something like comms is suggested that would push the concept of working as a team and enable people to actually play as a team player the idea is shot down immediately.

everything you just said is the case in every video game lol it has nothing to do with dbd.
-5 -
Check the last two sentences again.
In every other video game (or at least those I'm familiar with), voice chat is an optional bonus because important information can be gained through other means. I would argue this is because voice chat would be a deeply unreliable primary source of that information and would not fix any issues related to communication/information gain on its own.

VC solves none of the actual real problems, and thats the majority of survivors just being bad at the game, refuse to accept it and blame everyone else or the killer instead of improving. Same even goes for some killer players.
3-4 good solo survivors feels like a SWF purely because they know how to play well regardless, survivor game sense is not hard, people just expect to be handheld. The hardest thing is learning to loop well which only comes with effort and practice.
All VC does is add yet another element the game has to balance around which gives survivors a SIGNIFICANT advantage, except people will still cry and get killers nerfed every chance they can get. I dont think you all realise how much you would have to utterly gut everything on the survivor side to even begin to fairly introduce VC, probably even gut maps too. Killers will have to be way stronger in comparison to what they are now compared to survivors.
It also ruins viable killer designs. Every architype of killer that isnt fast mobility with a mix of either lethality or anti-loop is functionally worthless to design for. Stealth worthless, traps even more pointless with the ability to easily share info in real time. Pre-running stronger than ever so mobility has to become a necessity or maps shrink. etc etc etc….
And of course after all this compensation, bad players will still be bad, and it will still suck anyway. Because that is the core issue above all else.

- The funniest thing in this whole debate is that in their official discord, they have "voice chat sections" dedicated specifically to SWFs. so in some ways, it's a feature that they support
1 -
You are making some strong points but the thing is voice chat is already possible. Swf is already unbalanced. The game balance doesnt exist as long as solo and swf are in the same queue. It’s like a coinflip in the queue.

Agree with you, SWF is the standout problem because its not accounted for in game and the problem is not the survivor role itself, which is very strong in a good players hands. It is mostly always a player problem, not a role problem in general.
Seperate queue wont ever work, because why would i ever knowingly queue into a SWF? Incentives wont get most people to play miserable unfair games. But people will never accept SWF needs to be nerfed as its a "punishment for playing with friends".
So we're all in a deadlock because of entitlement and bad players will never take responsibility and continue to make everything suck for everyone else in the meantime.

I can't see them putting voice chat in. It'd just be another thing they'd have to sink time and resources into policing. A chat wheel would be a good alternative though.

I tend to agree, as I doubt they want such a moderation nightmare to deal with.

Killer mains would never allow it.
Genuinely the only reason it hasnt been added is because it would give them a slight challenge on playing killer, which they never want anyway.
They easily could add kindred and bond,
Buff older killers to compensate with bunch of haste.
But they never will.

I love how killer mains always gravitate to "but swf is more problematic" or "but they still suck"
Imagine saying that ######### as an arguement against nerfing hyperfocus or toolboxes, you wouldnt take it seriously.
"But nurse exists, thats why this is needed"
Im sure thats such a compelling arguement to point out another problem when the core problem is because soloq is so weak.
But im sure nerfing swfs will make soloq playable
-1 -
You can do it, it wont solve a thing, that sable that goes down in shack in 30 seconds will go down in 30 seconds even if you tell her she can chain a jungle gym nearby. That clauddette healing people against legion will keep doing it even if you tell her. SoloQ does not have a comms issue, it has literally a skill issue and matchmaking issue as well, put 4 decent players without comms and they will eat most pub killers alive, however you always have that candy that sells the entire match and info wont change that.

Well a problem of a wheel chat is the following.
We already have to options for survivors to communicate:
- Shaming the Killer
- Butt slaps
Oh wait… I meant pointing and waving… but be real here how often did you see these used for the intended interactions compared to the bm which it is used for.
So I am afraid… that the same thing will happen like it did in League of Legends where the missing Ping is abused to shame others. And always think about it that way. We live in a gaming culture were most of the creativity of the playerbase is used to tell someone to go off themself without getting banned.
To the topic voice chat I already gave my opinion. Many players belive that adding voice chat would make Soloque players play coordinated and bringing them closer to SWF but I am afraid that this is not the case. Yes it can happen that you find someone who is giving positions mid chase or doing his best but to be real. These people are not the once for which you need VC. If people are aware and good at the game they can do this without VC aswell.
It would be helpful for rats or people doing anything but gens but I beg you be real here. Do you really think that if you tell a rat to go work on gens he will :
a) Do as you command
b) Tell you some unholy things

Idk man i dont think people realize how toxic the survivor community of this game actually is. Look at arc raiders. I stopped playing because of voice chat. Even though you can turn it off, imagine you get a toxic teammate who is shittalking you the entire game because youre not playing optimally. This game would die if you made voicechat a thing. Plus not to mention the balance would be even more offset to the survivor side than it is now.
-1 -
Nothing will happen to the balance, as most survivors already play in SWF and already play with full comms (those who don't, have already burned out and quit dbd or switched to killer, there is only so much a mortal can take). So it only will make the stats more correct, removing the outlying 4 soloQ teams that get wiped out at 5 gens by the killer sneezing too hard.

As long as its not voice comms, and it have a cooldown so it cant be spammed. Yeah sure.
