Post-game chat abuse

My personal opinion is that BHVR should just eliminate post-game chat altogether because a vast majority of interactions are toxic, in my experience. I just finished a match where someone told me to off myself after they lost. This type of thing happens fairly frequently.

I reported them, as I always do for this kind of thing. But I’m starting to feel like it’s pointless. I’ve never once received any verification that action was taken against someone for saying extremely vile things like this. It’s difficult for me to believe that BHVR takes this seriously because they, at least in my experience, never ban people for this. I’m thick-skinned and this kind of stuff bounces off me, but what if someone actually gets influenced by this type of abuse and acts on it? Even if they don’t act on it, it can be psychologically traumatic for some people.

My point in posting this is that I hope a mod or dev sees this and action starts being taken against these kind of people. Please start taking this kind of thing seriously, BHVR. I now understand why people aren’t afraid of saying these kinds of things when they know that there likely won’t be any consequences. Does anyone else have a similar experience where chat abuse reports consistently go without any action taken?

you know you have the option to just click next and not read it right? i was on console for ages and that has no post match chat, it felt like i was playing with bots…if i didnt move to PC where there is a chat available then i would probably have quit the game because it feels so stale without it. im not condoning toxic chat by any means but you have the choice to not read it.

Yes, I know this option exists. I already said that the abuse doesn’t bother me personally, so there’s no reason for me to hide it. The only reason I keep it open is so that I can report these types of people who are harassing others through the chat system and hopefully get them banned. While I myself am not affected by the abuse, there are certainly some people out there who are. The solution is for BHVR to actually ban people for this kind of stuff, not just tell people to close the chat window.

indeed that is your choice but the people that are offended by this also have the option to not read it or ban them but you said your personal opinion is to eliminate post chat altogether…thats what i disagree with for the reason i previously stated.

    • Step 1: Turn off/hide chat
    • Step 2: Profit (in terms of sanity)

I haven't participated or read a postgame chat (in game) since like 2019 and I that has made the game much more enjoyable. On PC I have it hidden, and on console I have my messaging set to friends only and don't accept requests form people I just played with or against.

Let the monkeys fling poop at each other and just move on.

I think having an option to always perma turn off chat to avoid the curiousity to click on the arrow wouldn't be a huge ask LOL

Some days I forget I have it open when I'm not in the mood for the off chance of negative interactions. Would be nice as like a just in case option.

I already said (twice now) that I am not personally offended or affected by the chat abuse. So this isn’t a matter of “just turn off chat box”. What bothers me is the fact that BHVR has a function to report chat abuse and they (at least in my experience) don’t do anything with the reports. I know others here have the same experience with reporting cheaters and nothing beating done.

While I don’t care what people say in chat, there are players out there who are much more susceptible to being negatively affected by it. BHVR needs to either say “we’re not going to ban people for anything they say in chat, so don’t bother reporting” or they need to actually do something to remove these kind of players from the game. This is the whole point of my post.

Anonymous downvoters: maybe this time take a minute to respond with why you disagree with this.

Why the hell are you getting downvoted btw ? ######### you didn't even said anything provoking so why the hell so much downvotes.
I really do agree with your post - personally i also got people telling me to kyz only because i played freddy.
Most of the time i report people saying such things but i've gotten only 1 report feedback from swearing ever XD
But yeah that Meg basically wrote entire book in endgame chat how i should end it all etc. That kid went wayyy too far.

My idea is to make AI moderation for chat, and not necessarily make it strict or anything but make it understand the context and any form of communication abuse and hateful speech should be punished harshly. First would just be a warning and the harraser ability to chat will get blocked for 7 days, next time it would be for 1 month and 3rd time perm disabled chat untill the harraser makes appeal and even getting banned from the game if such person keeps breaking the rules anyway.

Not only chat hateful speech is abuse but also being unsportsmanlike.
That's NOT the first time i went against Sables that were hiding the entire game just wasting my time and helding the game hostage.. Dead by Daylight is NOT hide and seek ffs.

The reason barely anyone even gets banned is because the devs have to ban manually xD

I wonder why the hell are they so calm about it and acting like such problems are irrelevant.

Actually it's exactly the opposite, they are reasons people uninstall.

I hope they will have fun trying to find the survivor hiding for 15 mins in a row JUST RATTING the entire game.
    Jeez xD

The downvotes don’t bother me - I know some of my opinions aren’t popular here - but yeah I’m surprised that apparently some people think that me leaving the chat box open is the problem rather than the people who are saying the vilest things ever and going unpunished.

If BHVR don’t want to put the resources into enforcing their own chat abuse rules, then they should either 1) get rid of the chat altogether or 2) get rid of the rules and let people say whatever they want. They’re in the most frustrating place now where we are told to report but then nothing ever happens with the reports. If they want to maintain a welcoming place for their players, then they need to actually ban people for this stuff, whether it’s with AI or having more human resources devoted to dealing with reports.

    Yup!

I see absolutely no reason for making rules and ToS when devs themselves do NOT take them seriously and act like getting called slurs is not a problem.

It's really obnoxious that such people never get punished for it.

We have the same mentality: we want the chat open, yet never be called slurs, because that's just common sense.

Having the chat hidden is way better for your mental health, but I have no intention to act clueless.

The fact that people can call you slurs and get away with it JUST LIKE THAT is unbearable to even think about.

I understand that straight banning people for that would wipe out 75% of the entire community, but come on, at least DISABLE the chat for such people for a certain amount of time. That would humble them and teach some respect they ABSOLUTELY do not have towards anyone.
