i really dislike how much we hate each other over the vote

hi all. ive taken a step back from DBD since like. october/november to peruse other games and because ive been upset with BHVRs actions (like a lot of people lol) with the game as of late (ranging from genuine criticism of their half assed balance changes attempts over the past year and going "no bhvr i dont care how much netflix played you i dont care about stranger things"). this said, ive at least been hovering around the community still, and have been following the grimoire vote as i do still hope, in an ideal world, dbd will get better again and i will enjoy playing it.

and jesus christ, i wish i hadnt. everyone is literally so hateful to one another over these potential looks for the killer and survivor its actually shocking to me that people are reacting like that?

Someone doesnt want to vote for the young girl because Sable, Vee, Kate, Feng, Yun-Jin, Mikaela, and Yui feel like different versions of "cute girl that make money" and they want a unique character instead? obviously they are some deranged LGBTQ lefty who hates BEAUTIFUL WOMEN who actually look good and i have to clown on them in the name of the Silent Majority. I also will post about how incompetent and stupid i think anyone over the age of 65 is.

Someone doesn't want the old lady for whatever reason? Well obviously they are a MASSIVE no life basement dwelling gooner who sexually objectifies every young woman they see and only plays the game to look at ass.

Someone wanted big head angel to win? Obviously theyre an idiotic troll who wants to ruin DBD and remove all the "genuine horror" from it and jump on a band wagon that reddit was on. That or they're an arachnophobe and them not wanting a killer with prehensile legs, and obviously because they cant control their phobia theyre a sensitive little snowflake who doesnt deserve to play DBD, which we insist is consistently always scary and never a online competitive experience for fun.

Someone wanted the spider leg angel to win? Well clearly they just pick the most feminine looking silouette available because they have no brain cells and will just opt for the most cliche version of the presented power instead of bringing original concepts into dbd killers, leaving more room for licenses being prioritized over original ideas.

Like, these are all arguments im seeing get worse each day. and its not just the vote! every aspect of this gamme boils down to what feels like these disgusting bad faith interpretations constantly.

I felt like voting on the survivors appearance this broadly was always a mistake, jumping over all aspects of the characters appearance beyond 4 defaults and the upcoming moodboard would always lead to some people feeling like theyre missing out. but dear god, do you people even like each other? its a goddamn bloodbath out there.

anyways im back to deadlock. vote celeste lol

Same. It made me reflect more about the internet as a whole than just the dbd community though. I'm pleased to find that there are like minded people on here.

I main Sable so you can imagine that many of the other communities i was in, were echoing sentiments that i found harmful in relation to this topic, so i decided to leave them. Just remember that there are tons of pockets in the dbd community and they won't all feel bad. I choose not to engage in areas that i don't feel safe.

I find it unfortunate that this discourse is likely going to influence the votes though rather than just being based on people's first instinct though. I chose to vote the older lady, i like the pretty one but i prefer sable. But to be honest i've been tempted to vote the prettier one in protest but i'm not going to.

Take care and be kind and true to yourself

    Why would they do that..?

They are trying to make something that people actually want. If they wanted to do whatever they want, they can just do what they've done before.

They can have actual vote results just to "test the waters" and then set something else at the end, for any reason. For example, the blue-haired girl could be winning, but then they decide that the older character would be more "inclusive" and "politically correct", so they just declare she won. Sounds to me like the most likely case, although not the only one possible.

honestly i do think the grimoire is a real vote and not some 8 month long con by bhvr to put extra investment in an original chapter.

i ALSO think the reason were getting a change your fate on the survivor is likely due to a large divided vote on the survivors that were not the blue haired girl, and this is BHVR giving those divided votes a second chance. like you said, we dont get to see the actual tallied votes, so for all we know BHVR saw more votes overall for those 3 , but maybe blue girl one the popular one. or maybe this didnt happen at all, we have no clue.

if bhvr wanted to release a chapter with another female character who is pretty, they have the wrestler concept and couldve gone with it. i actually kinda think they want to give the other ideas a chance too.

maybe they shouldve done a gender vote before all this haha. but then itd be a bloodbath between the same female character enjoyers and those who sob over not having an original male character since gabriel (valid concern, tbf)

some of the stuff ive seen about just hating old people that much is insane.. probably coming from people who herald bill as an awesome veteran old dude too if i had to bet. literally saw a comment about her needing adult diapers on reddit, like ######### is wrong with people.

also im well. havent played dbd besides the PTB 2v8 test (which i admittedly had a lot of fun on, lol) in a few months and its both been nice but everytime i think about coming back i look at reddit posts and go Oh Dear God.

maybe if BHVR gives me legion back in 2v8 /j

I think it was incredibly naive of BHVR to think that anyone other than the pretty lady would win in a public vote.

To go to the trouble of designing a diverse set of characters but then to throw a conventionally attractive young lady into the mix is certainly… A choice. Well what do you know, *shocked Pikachu face* it looks like the pretty lady wins. Surely nobody could have predicted such a shocking turn of events!

All that said, I don't know why they don't just put Linda from TCoFS into the game for some older lady representation. That way, they can also keep players who want to be a twenty something happy, since they could easily add her 80's version as a legendary (or vice versa). I honestly think any character would sell if their perks are interesting enough. I can count the number of games I've played as Jane, Felix and Zarina on one hand, but I like some of their perks so I still bought them anyway. I know skins give BHVR a lot of extra income, but there are enough Feng/Kate/Sable/Nea mains out there buying cosmetics at this point to keep this game afloat for years to come.

I suppose as a middle aged guy, in theory I should want to see some more older representation among the Survivors. All we have that isn't from a license is Jeff (I'm not sure he even counts since he could be in his 30's) and Vittorio (the freshest looking 50 year old I've ever seen. Dude doesn't look a day over 30). Edit: I forgot about Ace too, which will tell you how much I don't care about Ace. But then again, all my other Survivor mains are conventionally attractive 20 somethings so of course I voted for the pretty lady.

I do think a lot of the discourse around the choices people have made is incredibly silly. BHVR is many things, but they've never come close to adding anything remotely close to what I'd call "gooner" content. I've been gaming for a very long time and the cosmetics in this game are incredibly tame compared to what used to be in video games 15 to 20 years ago. They are a thoroughly modern games company in that respect.

It's all engagement at the end of the day. Personally I never cared much for it at all because I'm used to low quality these days as most should be. 😵

I'm mostly disappointed by it because the last original male survivor that released was in June of 2023, almost three years ago (June of 2024 if we're counting Baermar rather than Gabe as the last original male).

Five original survivors have been released since the last male one. That's insane. And here this poll had two fantastic designs for men, but it feels like we're poised to get a Sable 2.0 from it.

I will say the variety of women that have come out recently is great, but as a Man Liker I'm gonna be passing on opening my wallet for this DLC, again.

I mean, you could also turn this around and ask how distrusting you’d have to be to assume this is all fake.

Like, I get why people don’t have faith in BHVR right now, but it’s just as big of a leap to assume it’s fake.

If you’re looking for signs of a conspiracy, you’re sure to find them.

I don’t pay attention to those people because one they have not had a 9 lb baby that literally pushed your bladder in your throat. Some of us are young and can’t run for recreation. If you break it down it’s age shaming. Just because someone is older doesn’t mean they are not capable. The minds od some are shallow and weak because the internet as allowed them to go unchecked.

    that's just internet/social media.

everyone's always angry, can't please anybody. wah wah wah. once people realize that people complain and get upset bo matter what, you can filter out that white noise.

just realize the internet discourse is a bubble. the average person does not know about this(grimoire included) or care.

This is personally what I believe as well. Historically, the surveys tend to pose a question based on what's hot in the community and somehow we always end up with the result that's least beneficial to us and most beneficial to BHVR. Not to mention users were reporting how flawed the polling system was and yet there's no attempt to redo it.

come on now this is BHVR. theyll consider fixing the voting system in about 6 years and will actually do it in 8.

They really need to do this, one of both genders and a choice between options for both. Because we all know the male characters arent going to win otherwise. The result was obviously predictable to anyone else. We arent going to get any unless BHVR specifically want to make male orignal characters so why even bother putting them in the poll tbh.

I personally liked all 3 killer designs and like all 4 survivor designs except for the young girl.

And even then, I simply dislike that they gave such an obvious cashgrab character as an option, when it doesn't really fit with how the lore of the survivor is shaping up.

Its off topic but a chapter of CotFS would be SOOOO good for DBD. Linda would be a hell of a survivor for this game. Hope they do a chapter for Frank Stone some day.

I haven't seen that stuff, but I also don't follow the online chatter about the game that much. :/

I'll be honest — there's a difference between what I think would be good character design and what I think is the most aesthetically pleasing portrait. The truth is that I don't pay that much attention to the lore in this game, because it doesn't really affect the gameplay. I'm mostly concerned with which character I'm looking at for the next however many minutes. Which is why I sort of feel like it's BHVR's responsibility to have artistic integrity and only put options in front of me that make sense and tell the story they're trying to tell — like a personal chef who makes sure all of your options are healthy, no matter what you choose.

If there IS a problem with the voting — and I'm not sure if there is — but, if there is a problem, I think the problem is less about what people are voting for and more that maybe one of the options didn't match the others or doesn't seem to fit the lore as well. I'm hoping that, no matter which portrait wins, the rest of the design comes together in a way that makes sense.

Yep. It's 100% rigged in my opinion. The only bit I'm uncertain about is whether or not it was intentional. I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt that it was just an oversight in the survey design — the same as many of the community satisfaction surveys have awkward wording or bad question design.

But objectively the vote was not fair and no effort was made to remediate it, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was intended either.

  • UnicornMedal
    UnicornMedal Member Posts: 1,925

This is purely my opinion on the matter, but I'm far past the point of thinking these things are mistakes. They are so consistent over such a long span of time that we have to start believing it's intentional. While there's certainly always the possibility that the poll design was a slip up, it's not the first poll they've ever ran and they've made no attempt to correct that. So for the pendulum to swing in the direction that would make them the most money… It doesn't look too good, in my opinion. 😖
