Why do people complain about more played survivors getting outfits

People don’t seem to understand that BHVR has to invest in their popular characters because it makes them money. They’re not gonna make money by making content for less played characters. And even when they do, it still doesn’t bring that less played characters pickrates up because clearly as you can see from the picture, people are more interested in these survivors.

I don’t think it’s because of the quality of the cosmetics, I think it’s more perhaps that the lesser played survivors are just boring to most people.

I should also mention characters like Gabe, Haddie and few others have been getting a decent amount of cosmetics in the last year and I still rarely ever see them in my games.

I mean by your logic they might as well remove all male survivors from the game which would be incredibly boring.

BHVR makes more than enough profits, acting like they can't afford a few financial flops for the sake of variety is just making an excuse for their greed.

    • Kate p100 here. I really don't like Kate's cosmetics very much. I think Devs are doing a lot for her, but nothing exciting. For example, I see a lot of players using Taurie (definitely more than Haddie, Jonah, Orela and others), but they've made very few skins for her and no Rift.

I mean Taurie has only been in the game for little over a year and it’s not a common thing for newer characters to get much right after release.

Greed? Buddy, I dont think you understand that companies want and have to make money. And obviously, where do they make more money? When they create a new Sable-Skin or a Skin for the three Haddie-Mains out there?

    @Topic:

I also dont understand it. Characters who dont look good are not popular and they will not get many skins, since they are not popular. Creating a Sable-Skin and a Haddie-Skin takes probably the same amount of time, workforce and money, just one of them is more profitable.

I mean, there was even a weird Haddie-Movement some time ago which resulted in her getting 3 or 4 Outfits in a row. And guess what - nobody plays Haddie anyway, since if the base is bad (and Haddie is really not pretty), no skin will really save that.

Funnily enough the same people who complain about Sable, Feng or MIkaela getting skins dont say a word about Dwight having way more skins than all of the unpopular characters…

And honestly, I hope the people will play the old woman Survivor they voted on in the Grimoire. Because if the community voted on her and then nobody plays her, the Devs will think twice if they want to make Survivors again which are not attractive.

    • If people on X (old Twitter) read this comment of yours, you'd be in trouble. No one should insult Haddie.🤣🤣🤣 Haddie's situation clearly demonstrates that those who "scream" the most on social media usually get heard sooner or later.

This forum is not a good medium for such discussion, but I'll briefly touch on the subject.

Where do you draw the line between profit-oriented and greed? How much is enough money for a company?

There is nothing stopping them from only making cosmetics for the top five most played survivors, this would have the highest RoI and be the most consistent way to generate profits.

Would it be good for the art of the game though? Is a lack of variety a good thing if it means more profits?

They clearly still release cosmetics for 'flop' characters, sometimes even multiple skins in a row. Ask yourself why, in my opinion, its because they can afford to, and with that, I think they should do it more.

This doesn't have to be a 'this or that' situation, I don't care if Sable gets a skin every update as long as the characters I prefer to play get a consistent cosmetic schedule as well.

I think certain characters are just easier to design cosmetics for. That's at least part of the reason why some get more fits than others. Feng has the whole UwU gamer girl thing going on, Kate's a classic American sweetheart, Nea, Mikaela and Sable are all different flavours of alternative. Ace is a sketchy lounge lizard kind of a guy and probably a lot of fun to design outfits for.

It must be a lot easier to come up with fits for these popular characters when compared to Felix, Jane or Jonah because these characters don't really have a distinctive or interesting style to theme their cosmetics around. Then you have poor Taurie, who would probably have more mains if only Nea didn't already exist in the game.

Meg is an interesting case because she tends not to get as many outfits as you might expect, despite being quite popular anyway. Meg has a lot of skins because she's free and she's been in the game since forever. If cosmetics were the main reason for picking a main, I would not be a Meg main. I like only a handful of her cosmetics and I'm usually left trying my best to put together a look that isn't 100% sporty looking. Her sporty aesthetic is probably not all that interesting to the shut-ins who play this game and haven't touched the grass of a playing field since leaving high school.

Gabe is another character that suffers from a similar problem with all his sci-fi themed gear. It just a weird niche that probably doesn't have much wide appeal (I'd love to see more casual fits for him). He's like the anti-Vittorio, who seems to get anything but period specific middle ages clothing to wear.

I'd honestly struggle to come up with ideas for the less popular Survivors.

I can totally understand why people will voice they would like to see more skins for less popular survivors. My three survivor mains have very low pick rates. I totally empathize. So while I may voice I would like to see more skins I also don't complain if I see skins for more popular survivors. The two points of view aren't mutually exclusive.

It's a balance. Of course it's understandable why Bhvr may prioritize those with a high pick rate but it wouldn't be that black and white otherwise we would only ever see skins for the top 10 characters. I think overall they are doing an okay job (could be a bit better) with releases. Afterall, we have over 90 killers & survivors so it's understandable not everyone will get a skin regularly.

Yeah to your last point i’ve been saying that in the future we’re gonna have a lot more killers and survivors so people are gonna have to hope that their mains get content.

Whenever a character gets a flashy new cosmetic, particularly if it's in the Rift or unlockable from an event, I see an uptick in that character being used. New cosmetics are an incentive if you don't hard main someone.

Also, one of the reasons I picked my main survivor was the plethora of cosmetics I liked. There are characters I like but I hate their cosmetics, so I dont play them. Its always good to have a variety available.

People dont understand that it doesnt matter if a character is popular or not. It just matters if the cosmetic is worth it to play or not. You can surely bring out the 200th cosmetic for meg, if its not fancy enough to be played its just a wasted cosmetic and could have either used for another character.

You remember how nobody played Gabriel Soma basically ever, until they gave him some decent cosmetics and then people actually started playing him?

    That's why.

tbh, most outfits are ugly. and the half decent ones with one good piece are linked.

take for example Gabe soma firemoon outfit. it was bugged so you could break it, so I actually started to use it.

linked sets is directly linked to my apathy regards cosmetics.

It's simple. It typically starts with the company making a character they know will be popular and prioritizing that character at all costs. Look at Feng for instance when she used to get equal participation cosmetics at every turn. Even if other characters are popular, they're less likely to be prioritized over the favorite, internally and externally. Then that justifies keeping things the same.

To be fair, BHVR isn't the worst example I've seen of this by far. I've seen other companies be really flippant about it. But they're not very great about it either. I don't think players suddenly decided to stop playing Feng for instance—I think Sable just became the new golden child.

to add, to this day Cheryl is one of my top survivors of all time simply because Jeryl existed. Why would I play a popular female character when walking abominations exist?
