If you were to remove his ability to M1 i think he would be more likable, this way he can still have his spamming power and survivor wouldn't have to worry about the unfair zoning.

I see what you mean but that would just be….weird…

That would be dead of Vecna.
If survivor sticks and run circle right around you, you cannot hit them with your power at all, because you can't aim directly at your feet.
PS: I'm currently world ranking 39 Vecna :)

Having a Killer who can't m1 would be terrible the more reasonable option would just make the m1 attack cooldown after using Vine attack longer
