What a sad state of affairs for M1 killers
This has been bothering me for awhile and i need to get this off my chest. M1 killers are just awful to play in the big 2026 and its not going to get any better for them i'm afraid. When playing m1 killer it feels like your climbing up Mount Everest and when your playing Blight or Dracula your walking up a staircase. Its insane the amount of powercreep and power difference there is between someone like Ghoul vs Ghostface. Ghoul can traverse Ormond in less time it takes for you to sneeze and for Ghostface you feel like your walking The Oregon Trail. M1 killers are so cooked its not even funny, even if they have some type of traveling the map like Onryo they are still aweful. Trapper STILL has to go pick up his power in 2026 and he is the posterboy of the game, Ghostface can have one guy follow him and he has no power all game, how much longer are you going to leave these killers in the dirt before you listen to us BHVR?

M1 killers been powercrept for a long time

blame the devs survivors giving buffs every/every other patch

we shouldnt be getting mad at BHVR for buffing survivor. We should be getting mad at them for letting these older killers become outdated and not changing them for the modern times.

I'm not so sure I agree that things aren't going to be getting better for them, though things are currently pretty bad for the bottom few killers.
Assuming we are just talking about weak killers here instead of M1-focused power designs (since Ghoul is the opposing example), things have been getting better for those killers over the years.
Sure, the bottom four (Trapper, Skull Merchant, Ghostface, Sadako) haven't been improved much any time recently, but the sort of middle area is full of killers that used to be way weaker. Wraith, Doctor, Pig, Legion, and Myers are all bare minimum respectable B tiers at this point, and they've all been pretty weak at some point in the past- same with Trickster right now, though obviously we don't know yet how much of a buff that rework's going to end up being.
I wouldn't be surprised if one of the bottom tiers currently gets genuine help sometime soon-ish. It is a thing BHVR seem to be doing more often these days.
A ray of hope, I think. It's not all doom and gloom.11 -
if survivors are buffed thats a nerf to killers as a whole it just affects m1's harder

kanwki is still weaker than blight and also kaneki is just a stronger ver of legion and the average survivor doesn't know how to loop despite him being nerfed every patch

Agree with that.

I mean yeah. A large tribute to M1's feeling awful is definitely exhaustion perks. As M1's most of your hits comes from winning mind games and not brute forcing hits through your power (blight/kaneki) but when someone just lithes and sprint bursts across the map refusing in any mind game potential it starts to become a problem. Like in terms of sheer unhealthy design Nurse is at the top of the ladder but certain exhaustion perks are close behind that.

Big Problem is… nearly no one likes the changes for new Killers.
Poor Myers…

They've backed themselves into a corner there. Legacy content has a strong following of players that like them as they are. Buffing them or nerfing them strips those elements of their identity. The shift to more competitive play has made it so that everything is viewed through that lens and yet nothing seems to be getting better.

We can do both, because both are continual issues.

PvP is competitive by default.

That's not entirely true, Trapper is probably is one of the most popular killers that gets requested for a rework, I don't know anyone who would want him to stay the way it is. The same thing was true for Freddy.

OK but if we look outside of the box, it's obvious that some PVPs are designed to be more causal than others. DBD's win conditions are vague at best, for instance. The model they've been going off of for a while now involves making minimal changes to that model while adding in a level of responsibility you'd expect from an Esport. Naturally that's very unstable.
But how many Trapper mains want him changed completely versus buffs like being able to hold more traps at once? If he suddenly became a dash Killer, that would attract a new audience but likely isolate his existing one.
Freddy is a good example too. He has been changed so dramatically since his first iteration than he's kind of for nobody now. Doesn't seem to offer the experience that his previous mains want, while also not being as powerful as any given new release Killer.

Trapper has been getting numerous buffs since his inception, from putting traps on the floor way faster than on release, to his traps not being broken by toolboxes anymore. Even when equipping his best addons Trapper becomes only a decent killer at best. There are no hardcore Trapper mains like you're talking about.
And Freddy has always been a bit of a nobody, his rework didn't make him any more popular but at least it made him more playable. I am not sure why would anyone want him reverted back to his original state either.-1 -
Maybe there aren't mains anymore. But that's what I'm talking about. The more their identities are stripped, the more they do appeal to a new crowd. But that new crowd is likely to move on from them as soon as the next broken Killer drops. It's what we see every new chapter.
At the core of the issue, the game is in an identity crisis. And like I said, at the end of the day these decisions appeal to nobody.

Not when that identity is about being in the bottom of the barrel. Trapper is known for his long setup time and traps, but its also for that reason that he sucks. Unless the old crowd only cares about playing a very weak killer with outdated mechanics, then I don't see how a rework would harm their identity as long you can take that setup playstyle and work into something effective and fun.
The only killer I know whose identity is about being a challenging killer is Ghostface, who should have gotten buffs like moving faster on Night Shroud and not being revealed by downed or hooked survivors long ago. Most people I know how play Ghostface know that there are better options, but like how careful they have to be on stealth, at least on the opinions I heard.-1 -
Fair. My only point is that the more it's balanced toward the direction Myers took, it's just a different flavor of throwing everything in the trash.

Blame recent power-creeping killers for survivors needing buffs every other patch. Believe it or not, killer and survivor changes go hand in hand. As an M1 enjoyer myself, I'll have no qualms about them throwing some buffs my way. But people need to accept that it will inevitably result in buffs to survivor as well, because the health of survivor is also an integral role in the longevity of this game we all enjoy. Each individual Killer has their own kill rate to observe, but survivor escape rates are looked at as a whole. This means that strong and weak killers play a balancing role when it comes to escape rates, and making one side too heavy will tip the scales.

M1 killers defo feel a million times better if you run 1 or 2 chase perks in my experience. Bit unfortunate thats necessary but hey its probably enough to compete in most lobbies if that's the goal. Play with your food my beloved. I will never forsake you.

I wanted to give my insight on this topic through a B tier Killer Point of View.
I main The Unknown. Most of you know how he is. Very inconsistent Power and easily countered.
The problem with Killers like this is that you dont feel powerful or even a Killer, Half ur matches. Ur just a punching bag. Killer powers should be difficult to counter regardless of the survivors.
Not saying killers should be so strong survivors have no chance against them. Im saying Killers need counter play that involves the survivors Working together to escape that Killer.
Every killer needs to be atleast A tier. Which would be a 60% killer rate or higher. A tiers have no bugs, There power is constant and counterable for both sides. S tiers should be brought down to the A tier range while bring D to B tiers should be brought up to A tier. I know going against a strong Killer is annoying but thats the point in a 1v4 horror game. The power has to be strong against one survivor or it wont function properly. Killers need maps to Function as well. Killers Like Ghostly and pig need maps to stealth with. Chucky and Myers need Small maps to navigate the map at there pace.
When ur in a match with a Killer you should feel trapped or always on ur toes. A large map should look overwhelming. Unknown, Ghoul, Xenomorph and other killers with TP Abilities should get Large to medium maps because it will be more fair.
I maybe wrong but for my 2k years playing these are the things I noticed and always wondered if it could fix the game
