survivor bashing content
Has anyone noticed the trend on YouTube where you just see videos of survivor bashing? What gives?
Comments
-
It would be helpful if you could explain what “survivor bashing” is
-1 -
Youtubers will post whatever gets them more view$. That's literally all it comes down to.
18 -
Engagement Bait. You will have Killer Mains clicking on those videos saying how horrible Survivors are and you will have Survivor Mains clicking on it to say that it is not true.
Better just not click on videos of those Content Creators to not give them money.
20 -
I just type in dbd on YouTube and this what I see lol
16 -
This is a new trend? I feel like this has been going on for the past 10 years since the game was released.
6 -
yeah I should have listened to you but like the first first comment I see on the video lol
13 -
Its click bait in the simplest form. Have to admit would not get me to click the video as I watch only few DBD content creators as they do good content.
-1 -
This has been around practically since release. Most content that criticizes one side is mostly towards survivor, or any toxic TTV videos. It's mostly survivor.
0 -
I don't enagage with CCs but even what little I see is mostly survivor hate. This community loves a certain flavor of division. There's even one guy who bashes this forum, especially those he thinks are survivor mains.
15 -
These videos are not a critique to survivors in general but a critique to the survivors who DC on a first down or those who throw insults at the endgame chat. I can't say anything about Mr Headache, but MintSkull and QuietKills have often tried to make the distinction between the common survivor and the salt driven ones who throw the game and ruin it for their own teammates the moment something goes wrong.
1 -
As @Aven_Fallen said, it's engagement bait primarily. But it's also the natural course the game has taken. Killer is the weakest role, despite all of the evidence screaming the opposite, and the real problem is bully Survivors. You get to be in control and take down all the meanies. It's a great ego trap.
13 -
That's an interesting role reversal theory. Flip the lore by making the survivors the villains and the killers justified because the players "deserve it."
11 -
100%. It's a mirror to their own reality. You see a lot of very strange and vitriolic hatred toward Survivor, beyond it being just a game. And now it dominates the DBD market. One would realistically only continue to expose themselves to that if they got something out of it. I'm thinking it's akin to a digital voodoo doll. And I'm going to be totally candid here—it's actually really nasty that BHVR encourages that and profits off of it. Maybe I'm completely wrong with their intentions, but that's my genuine belief.
12 -
Not such thing as bad press, right? Anything that fuels engagement is a winning strategy nowadays. Doesn't matter how harmful it is.
5 -
I saw the first video the other day and it just spews bias in the first few minutes in the section labeled "rant" , I ended up leaving a comment on the video itself when I saw it when it came out because its actually disgusting for someone in creator program to egg on the killer community to be more volatile when IMO killers and survivors giving up is on par with each other people just have a whinge way more about survivors doing it.
He added a warning to comments not to harrass people because he knowns what the community is gonna want to do after watching his video.6 -
I thought it was just me who was noticing this trend. Glad to know im not just going crazy. Obviously there's always been a community divide between the two roles with Youtube content creators being split into two tribes that cater to each one, but I feel like in the last year since i've come back to the game it's gotten way worse.
Like the average Survivor main content you see is stuff like "Hey guys! Watch me loop the killer for 5 gens while using this quirky new perk build I created. Haha!" With bright filters and Nintendo music playing in the background.
But then you have the average Killer main content which all feels like just a variation of "TOXIC SWF BULLY SQUAD EPIC FAIL WITH SALTY ENDGAME CHAT" and 80% of the comments are people going off about how they hate survivor players and they want to genocide all survivor mains (I'm being slightly hyperbolic, but you get the point)
its just all so very tiresome.
16 -
these humble workers need to put food over their heads and put a roof on the table. just men hard at work.
I treat them like I would army recruiters...take them with a grain of salt.
7 -
More us vs them TBH. For every one of these videos you are talking about i can show you another video of a survivor solo/squad laughing at killers they "make DC" Its all engagement bait because the us vs them thing is what gets clicks.
-1 -
I mean, entitled players are ruining the game. And there's more survivors than killers, and the ones who DC are definitely the worst so... kinda a given. They've ruined the reputation of the survivors who don't bm or act toxic.
1 -
if you watch most of these videos all it is people who fed up with the current state of the game and voicing their collective frustration (at survivors) and trying to educate them on how to get better so they can stop blaming ‘toxic killers’ for their problems.
if you don’t see the issues you’re either in a 3-4 man swf, a killer player, or a new player who doesn’t know bad plays when they seem them. Please I encourage any doubters, go play solo-duo queue and watch how many game you lose because your teammate survivors heal under hook, farm hooks, loop in disadvantages areas, die too fast due to lack of knowledge, or dc/go next immediately. These people are the reason half the killer roster have such bad reps, because instead of learning they b***h and moan or dc until mommy and daddy bhvr fix the ‘problem’.
I don’t see a problem with ‘survivor bashing’ content, maybe it’ll get some of the worst offenders to educate themselves but what do I know, they probably saw the thumbnail left an angry ‘killer mains bad’ comment then went back to throwing games and complaining on twitter.-9 -
Since there's 4 times the survivor players in each match compared to killers it's more likely that there will be something to complain about with how the survivors play (or don't play in the case of the insta-DCers or those that just give up if they're found first)
-9 -
For real. It goes for anything and everything too, so it makes sense that our dumb little game is prime real estate for it as well. 😝
7 -
Definitely. I don't actually think it is an over-exaggeration though. The hate gets very extreme and very bizarre, to the point where I've seen people threaten their own safety or the safety of others. There's tilt, but this feels a little more unwell. It's why I say that profiting off of that feels really gross.
This really belies the even greater issue. DBD is not well designed nor well balanced if you have to take a crash course in how to play by watching streamers with abrasive content just to hopefully stand a chance (realistically, it sounds more like they're ranting and saying what should happen rather than trying to educate but that's just my opinion). It's undeniable that the game is frustrating, unfair, and relies way too strongly on elements completely out of one's control while also going to great lengths to punish players for making any mistakes or having a bad time.
BHVR absolutely should try to address pain points if they notice that people keep underperforming and not having fun. I don't see how that's unreasonable as you seem to suggest.
10 -
I think it’s the issue of age as well.
not only is dbd is complex it’s old, and the content isn’t slowing down, so the barrier to entry is just going to keep getting higher and higher.A bit of a personal anecdote but I got into league a couple years ago and it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought with how old the game was and the amount of characters and items but with the help of a couple of friends a couple of YouTube videos, and just reading the in-game information I felt ok and not too too overwhelmed.
dbd even with those first two things is still missing crucial onboarding and a severe information deficit when it comes to killer powers and perks. Even if dbd had the specific killer information, with descriptions and videos all on one page, i dont think it’d be enough, the game is such a trial by fire kinda thing where experience rules.
I seriously don’t envy anyone new getting into the game at this point in time, but i say start now because it’s only gonna get harder. I mean how should we expect new players to learn the game overnight when even some 10 year veterans don’t even know or wanna know what certain things do/mean.
0 -
DBD is also unlike most PVP games as well where despite being balanced toward competition, it hinges completely on luck. No matter how much experience you have, you will always be at the mercy of things like matchmaking, powers/perks, and unchecked catchup mechanics. People get burned out, rightfully so.
10 -
i completely agree, it’s a shame bhvr haven’t nailed the non-rng maps yet.
I feel Like the closest we’ve gotten is trickster delusion, my personal favorite, but even I can admit it feels very disgusting once you learn it as survivor.
I also like rpd but we all know that map had/has a ton of issues, the 3 gen in the middle, unbalanced variants, weird hook spawns yadada3 -
It's not "bashing" if it's true. DBD's survivor playerbase is by far the most entitled, whiny and disgusting playerbase I've ever seen, LoL and CoD aren't even close.
-10 -
Sadly not new. What truly bothers me about it is how many times the people who make these videos are in the creator program. I would think if someone was going to represent my brand, I’d ensure they were coming in good faith and not trying to divide the community further. What’s truly ironic is most of the things these content creators say that are supported in the program would get banned on this very forum because it goes against the rules. But when moneys involved I suppose that all goes out the window.

The big problem I see is the following:
In DbD both sides are entilted and think they are the punching bag for the other side.
But I have to adress that Survivors aren´t happy no matter what you do. Pllease stay with me I will give some examples and I beg you to be honest with yourself.
Rate of disconnects are rocket high at the Survivor side and gets support by many DbD players (Why should you stay in a game if you don´t have fun?) Don´t like the Killer? DC! Don´t like the map? DC! You know what I mean as many players even in this forum suggested. "Don´t like Ghoul? Just DC and show BHVR that you don´t want to play.
Ofcourse there are Killers which DC over the smallest things themself. Bad Map, Bully Squads etc. but if you are beeing honest you will see that a Killer which dcs has most of the time a reason to do so (I don´t agree with these but you will understand) Hey another denied hit by autoaim, Hey another Larrys as Billy, Hey another flashlight save out of an impossible angle and so on.
Another point is how players react to a gamestyle the other side uses. While yes Bullysquads are hated by Killers the most common suggestions in this forum is to always bring Lightborn or if you play against Sabo Squads Slug the hell out of them. These are legit conversations how to tackle the problem you are facing. Survivors Gen Rush? Use slow down and so on.
Survivors on the other hand react to such topics in another way. Many Survivors think that BHVR should make playsstyles they don´t like unusable and get mad at BHVR if they don´t do it right after the suggestion came in. From time to time I try to reason with some players in this forum that "If slugging is in 10 of 10 games why won´t you take anti slug perks?" and always the answer tend to be something like "I don´t want to use a perk for BHVRs bad game desing".
While both sides are horrendous from time to time, most of the time I roll my eyes when I see Survivors in game or in the forum.
-6 -
Years of development habits that tend to limit the killer end and enhance the survivor end for the sake of "player retention."
-5 -
This has crossed my mind too. I would have expected higher standards when it comes to their Creator program. A number of regulars here have had the "pleasure" of involuntarily being featured in a number of videos from a particular Creator, and not in a nice manner. You're correct that if he opted to respond to us here instead of in YouTube videos, he'd have been banned because it's against forum rules. But apparently it's okay when they're representing the brand? Not a good look
12 -
This strips down the points of contention far too much, however. Survivors lack a great deal of autonomy over the game. More often than not, it's simply unfair for them. I don't think it's very entitled for them to give up when the trial becomes one-sided so early on. Make those trials a trend and giving up becomes a trend.
0 -
The trend of giving up and not playing the game they queue up for. Instead of just quiting DBD they continue to join matches to ruin other survivors games.
-2 -
I try to avoid content like this since it's just the algorithm's negativity bias working to bring you rage and drama. If you've seen one "WESKER makes SALTY and ENTITLED survivors DC and RAGE!?" then you've seen them all anyway.
11 -
yeah idk about all that
5 -
Yeah Dcing because you hear the Terror Radius of a Killer you don´t like is not entitled at all.
-8 -
Survivors on the other hand react to such topics in another way.
These aren't comparable. Lightborn not only deletes an item's usability with just one slot taken, it even gives undeserved aura read. Yet you could bring a whole anti-slug build and still get slugged over and over, especially in soloq. Unbreakable is one-time use, Exponential can be snuffed, Conviction and WGLF require coordination to be really useful. Most of these just prolong things. All the killer needs is Infectious Fright and your anti-alug build just give them more info to keep slugging.
Killers decide how the match will feel far more than survivors. A genuine bully squad is rare, and a competent one even more so. They're usually just a nuisance anyway. Slugging and tunneling killers are constant and far less easy to deal with. I just played 4 survivor matches, 2 with killers going for full team slugs, 1 with someone trying to tunnel me. Then I logged off. DCing and being frustrated aren't survivor problems, they're game problems.
And about getting mad when changes don't come through right away—it's been 10 years. Slugging and tunneling are still being complained about. What's the acceptable waiting period? A quarter of a century?
12 -
Unfortunately, it kind of is true.
Many games are ruined by DCs and giving up.
Giving up in droves is a recent problem.
-7 -
Thank god we're finally having this discussion, because holy crap am I tired of this. It's no secret that most content creators are killer mains, and they all just constantly make videos saying how much they hate survivors with vitriol, all the while playing victim in the same breath. I wish we had more content creators that point out that killer mains are just as bad and entitled, and say it full heartedly. Because it's not just on youtube, but twitter is a nonstop machine of killer mains posting about how much they all hate survivors.
I'm just so tired of seeing killer mains build their community around hating survivors and get rewarded for it. I really don't think these types of creators should be in the Creators Program at all. Same goes for survivor mains that spread nonstop hatred for killer mains. You don't put people like that on a pedistool.7 -
Just watched Scott Jund newest video and that is how you make a argument against people who are dcing all the time without seeming like you are crashing out or bashing one side.
Not starting the video off by screaming at the survivor side and calling them ######### like example at start of thread from someone in the creator program did. he just calmly states his points, mad at certain survivors but makes clear its not all survivors.-2 -
In DbD both sides are entilted and think they are the punching bag for the other side. But I have to adress that Survivors aren´t happy no matter what you do. Pllease stay with me I will give some examples and I beg you to be honest with yourself.Okay, let's go on the honesty.
Rate of disconnects are rocket high at the Survivor side4 times as many survivors as there are killers is a prominent reason here, but lots of others as we go through the post.
and gets support by many DbD players (Why should you stay in a game if you don´t have fun?) Don´t like the Killer? DC! Don´t like the map? DC! You know what I mean as many players even in this forum suggested. "Don´t like Ghoul? Just DC and show BHVR that you don´t want to play.I don't think this is remotely close to true anymore than it is for for killers.
Ofcourse there are Killers which DC over the smallest things themself. Bad Map, Bully Squads etc. but if you are beeing honest you will see that a Killer which dcs has most of the time a reason to do so (I don´t agree with these but you will understand) Hey another denied hit by autoaim, Hey another Larrys as Billy, Hey another flashlight save out of an impossible angle and so on.I don't see the difference on how you justify the killer more than the survivor. By this logic a survivor who DCes because they get hit after vaulting a window or already being behind a wall and than hit by a hatchet is equally excusable. As for being upset about getting Larrys as Billy, the being upset about hitting the same killer (Ghoul) again and again seems more relevant.
You say you don't agree, but justify one over the other, when they sound pretty much the same (if we're being honest).
Use slow down and so on.1: This takes out killers lobby dodging to avoid sweaty builds. If survivors knew who the killer was (which would be an awful idea), they'd bounce before the match and DCes would go down.
2: We've had massive waves of vitriol directed at Survivors over Fast Track and not being able to know its there or play around it. Not knowing what they are dealing with until they are in the match is the normal survivor experience.
3: As @cogsturning mentioned, Lightborn totally eliminates a playstyle.
4: How to counter the slugging is a playstyle. That's radically different than 'you should have guessed right on what perk to bring'.
Survivors on the other hand react to such topics in another way. Many Survivors think that BHVR should make playsstyles they don´t like unusable and get mad at BHVR if they don´t do it right after the suggestion came in.Unusuable is probably an exaggeration, but yes, survivors want certain playstyles nerfed.
That's not unique by any means. Gen rush, MFT, BU+FTP, old old DH, old DH, sabo plays, unhookable builds, etc. all have been massively complained about. Even something like using OTR to bodyblock got nerfed with an explanation that mirrored killer reasoning. The main difference is that killers seem to be better at actually getting BHVR to listen.
From time to time I try to reason with some players in this forum that "If slugging is in 10 of 10 games why won´t you take anti slug perks?" and always the answer tend to be something like "I don´t want to use a perk for BHVRs bad game desing".That's not always the answer. Unless there's a secret forum the rest of us don't know about, saying that just makes you sound silly.
There are three main issues here
1: Your framing - despite saying you want this be honest you're going to an extreme of someone saying '10 out of 10'. Lots of survivors complaining about it aren't going to that extreme. So if you only get slugged 1 out of 5 games, tunneled 1 out of 5 games, ignored 1 out of 5 games while the others are focused on, and two normal games, its a grab bag of guessing what perks to use.
2: Much like the discussion on Lightborn, antislug perks are still limited. You don't just get to counter the style completely. You get a pick up with Unbreakable, have to make sure you get near an exponential boon (and that the killer doesn't snuff it), etc.
3: Even with the perks, its still pretty boring. Okay, I can now crawl to exponential and pick myself up, whatever, not exactly thrilling gameplay.

Yes, I have noticed an uptick in this sort of content. While I think some of it is definitely over the top, I feel like it's a pretty common consensus right that survivor is in a very strong state.
Yet despite this, killers still have a pretty good kill rate because the majority of survivors simply don't know what they're doing. Behavior looks at this data and thinks "hmm, survivors must be struggling, lets give them buffs", despite survivors already being strong provided they understand how the game works. They've been doing this for awhile now, which is what has led to all this frustration.

CC engagement bait who are entitled Killer mains
4 -
this is why a lot of survs kinda hate killer mains, they all act superior as if they’re so much better like they don’t act just as entitled majority of the time… refusing to hook is the biggest entitlement of them all. like, just play the game lil bro🙄
4 -
lightborn deletes a perk if no one uses a flashlight.
-2 -
As you said Cogs, it is impossible to fully compare both sides.
As killer, you can play around most, if not everything the survivors do, aside from very co-ordinated teams that are super efficient. Bully-squads are few and far between, and like you said, the competent ones, even more so.
I faced a wannabe bully squad the other day when playing as MiNA, but they got promptly destroyed, and couldn't capitalize on the single flashlight save and the one sabo they managed to pull off. Too easy to play around.
I just call them a "minor annoyance" these days. The killer player has to mess up really bad, nerf themselves or get the most unfavored maps in existence to have a bad match. Usually, you are able to secure at least one kill, even in those scenarios.
The average survivors, whether it be solos, duos, trios or a full SWF, they need to play their best to even stand a chance against the average killer these days.
From my 20 or so killer matches over the past few days, I lost 4 (two were 0K's). One where I went in perkless and addonless and got Nostromo as Trickster, and one where I played Myers and was sent to Eyrie. The rest of the matches were either draws, 3K's or full 4Ks, giving me a total kill-rate of 66.67% - All this while going for 8 hooks before killing off anyone.
And I faced against survivors that ranged from a few hundred hours, all the way up to 6k hours. Blame the matchmaking for that one.So yes.. I also really want BHVR to properly address tunneling and slugging. It's been too long of an issue. Let's hope we don't have to wait a quarter of a century before it gets properly rectified
5 -
Or blast mine. Or fireworks. Or flashbangs. But you can literally see the flashlight in the lobby. This argument would only make sense if killers couldn't see survivors in the lobby.
6 -
last sec switching still exists and there is a perk that guarantee a flashlight from a chest. To the other perks that are hidden from the killer, if the killer brings lightborn and nothing is used to blind them isn't it a wasted perk?
Also we are talking about an item not a perk. If the killer runs lightborn then the survivor doesn't need to waste time going for saves and progress gens. They could open a chest and get a different item. In reality it benefits the survivor side by not having two survivors in chase.
The anger for lightborn is not that it makes an item useless, many perks and killers can do that, its that survivors can't clicky click and annoy the killer.
-2 -
Do you think I have anger for Lightborn?
It's an unfair perk. That's why I use it. It's one of two anti-item perks you can choose based on what you see in the lobby, and get likely value. What are you going to do about toolboxes? Bring regress? You probably are already doing that. A medkit? Not really worth changing anyting for. Keys? Oh no they can open chests fast! Fog vials? Who even cares? Maps? Now you know there'll be a boon totem. Free info, no need to counter. But flashlights are just deleted. You also get free aura read for doing absolutely nothing. And again, it's not just items. Flashbang and Blast Mine are perks. If someone has a build devoted solely to blinds you delete the whole thing with one perk.
In reality it benefits the survivor side by not having two survivors in chase.
This honestly reads like satire. "I'm helping you be better at the game by choosing how you'll play. You're welcome." Use the perk, don't use it, I don't care, but accept that it's unfair.
9 -
I mean if light born is unfair calm spirit is unfair too tho.
The only difference is that the survivor can't react to the killer but that is part of the games balance.
I think lightborn gets talked about in the first place not because it stops a playstyle but because it stops a playstyle that is well liked by people that want to interfere with the killer and don't want or enjoy sitting at gens.
If I bring lightborn and you see that at your first pallet blind three minutes in the game you now know you have to do gens. I know that this is frustrating but we don't see complaints like that about calm spirit countering scream builds and doc. And we don't see complaints like that about plague and legion making heal builds worthless. (We do see complaints about legion but more about men's then healing)
Maybe it is because blinds are the only weapon of survivors, maybe it is because of people that farm clips or maybe it is because among people that like torches there are those who use them cause they want to screw with the killer and those are obviously gonna be loud about hating lightborn.
All I know it that if bhvr announces they are reworking lightborn I quietly deinstall the game
