Should people with coulrophobia be allowed to DC against clown?

People with an actual fear of clowns I mean. I know the devs really thought about the Clown before actually releasing him (due to fear of clowns actually being a thing) but ultimately thought the benefit of the clown would be a greater reward to the company. Should those types of DC’s be justified?

If you mean justified as far something like not counting toward the ban threshold, then I have to say: No.

Unfortunately, there is no way to confirm that any player has a legitimate case of Coulrophobia, and anyone could claim such to avoid a DC ban.

Other than that situation, it really doesn't matter. People are going to DC for whatever reasons.

I think they could use the game as an opportunity to overcome their fear, facing a virtual clown in a non-consequence environment. But that's just me.

Anyway, the clown isn't really good and it's very rarely played, so... whatever.

I believe the reason they took so long to add in a clown-like Killer is because a lot of people are scared of clowns. I guess they thought it might push people away from the game. I wonder what changed their minds.

On another note, I don’t think anyone should be playing Dead by Daylight if they have a significant fear of any horror trope.

Can’t watch It? Stay away from this game: The Clown.

Can’t watch The Ring or The Grudge? Stay away from this game: The Spirit.

    The list goes on, really.

Of course not. Game is meant to be scary. I’m scared of weirdly arousing angry females but spirit is still in the game

Jokes aside it’s a HORROR game. If you didn’t know what you were getting into, it’s best you stick to animal crossing if you prefer holding hands.

I had a friend who I just recently got into the game.

I found out, she had an incredibly crippling fear or vomit and sounds of vomit.

a single day after we learn about the Plague. Plague is now out, and she was finally loving the game but will no longer play due to this killer.

What even do we do about something like this??

Tell her to play without sound first. Then play with the lowest sound, wait until she gets used to it, go up a notch, repeat.

If if it helps you can tell her that the vomit is actually not modeled after vomit, Jello launched from air pumps was the simulation of the desired effect, which was to make something that could mechanically tied into the game and be easier to aim with with visual feedback.

None of that is actually true to my knowledge but all you gotta do is crack the illusion of it being vomit.

Alright I'll have her try this, thank you. It was just such unfortunate timing, however it does seem way less people are playing the plague. I told her she wouldn't get banned if she only dc'ed against a plague as long as it's not too many times in a row but she doesn't care about bans, she doesn't wanna screw over the rest of the team by leaving. So it's forced her to just not play.

    Hopefully this'll help.

Meh... I don't know. What if they add a spider/dentist themed killer to the game? Would that cause a massive increase of disconnections?

I have a phobia against spiders too but somehow i would love a spider themed killer in DBD😅

I think they should play clown themselves. Confrontation is the best way to beat a (stupid) fear.

I was Ill when plague dropped. I found the sound and visuals to be... Catalytic on a few occasions.

    Blech.

It's a horror game and if people can't play anymore because of a phobia, then well, sucks for them.

Sounds mean, but the devs are not going to allow DCs or something just because you have an irrational fear or phobia of something in the game. Since it's supposed to be a horror game, they can add whatever they want and I d hate it if they wont release something, JUST because they re afraid of people with a phobia not playing the game anymore.

It sucks, yeah, but the only possibilities are either: Get therapy to deal with it, or stop playing the game. Thats it.

No claurophobia is a killer perk which slows down heal speed. Maybe understand the context before making a post. You can get claurophobia on all killers as it's a teachable, you can't pick and choose what your opponents build is. (×:

Sounds nice for those who have it, but seems impossible to implement fairly.

Maybe they should add a "Phobia" options in the settings where very common phobias gets censored and looks like something else to not trigger them ?

If that's seriously enough of an issue to allow people to DC because of a fear then they shouldn't be playing this game to begin with. it's called DEAD BY DAYLIGHT...like literally maybe this game is too much for them if they're that much of a snowflake.

@ShirtlessDwight Does this mean you have Wellmakeitophobia and Selfcareophobia?

  • UgyBoogie

One of the DbD Moderators has that phobia and even states on their profile that they are going to DC if they see the Killer using the Clown.

If a Mod is doing it and doesn't get banned, I don't see why "normal" players should get punished if they do the same.

There's no way to tell the phobia is real though. People could claim they have a phobia to avoid playing against a killer they don't like, for instance you don't like facing nurse or doc you could claim you have Iatrophobia.

My only suggestion is if you do have a Phobia that the killer triggers, die on hook or if it's really bad Go to a vault or lokcer, spam a notification and minimize the window. This way you essentially are leaving the game by killing yourself but in a way that avoids a DC Ban but also not as bad as a dc on your team since it'll buy them some time to do gens and keep the killer busy.

Luckily Clown is not very common so if they do DC against him it probably won't get them banned

Sorry but your Phobia has to be really bad for it to trigger or frighten you in game, there are things I have a phobia irl sure but when in game I get over them real quick as you realize it's all fake basically.

It's okay, nobody plays Clown anymore anyways. They didn't add a Clown killer, they added a joke.

Whenever your fear triggers your panic disorder then no exposure therapy does not always work.

@DwightsLifeMatters I don't think it would help since playing from the Clown's perspective all you see is his hand holding a knife.
