Dead by Daylight Alpha footage
So I stumbled upon this on YouTube and I must say, man have the times changed. Everything was slow and the textures didn't look that great. I know the developers get bashed on a lot but man, they really did improve over time. Here's the footage if anyone wants to watch.

I liked how the game looked back then, environmentally and everything, now it just looks like a potato.

@Detective_Jonathan strangely, I do too. Things looked more simple, I guess. It really just seemed more dark and gloomy so it was more fitting

Why did graphics become really bad?
And please don't tell me graphics are better now, it looks like it was 10 times better.

I actually like how much cleaner it looks, They really overdo the whole mist and fog on most maps that it ends up looking muddy. Farm maps are eye sores tbh

I saw this the other night and thought about posting it. Nice!

whyyyy this look better than actual graphics?? tell me whyyyyyyyyyy!

It used to have such a spooky aesthetic. Game feels so dull graphics and lighting wise now.

I love the old grab animation
4 -
I bet the game was in a better state than it is right now

I liked old graphics and lighting better tbh

They should bring back these graphics honestly, but then I'm pretty sure it would kill optimization

OMG IT'S SO ######### SLOW

Holy jesus devs were campers

This actually explains a lot. The Killer seems really OP in this iteration.

Oh how times have changed. Wish I had been playing during this

I like when the entity started shooting lasers out at the killer.

Man, the days of no loading bar. They were tough times. Thanks for posting!

It wasn't the devs playing btw. Best thing is that nobody knew stuff like looping and infinites yet and DCing and toxicity wasn't even a thing at all.

@Hoodedfengm1n It looked cool, but really long. Pretty sure because of that.

What is everyone talking about? That looks horrible overall.
The game has come so far

It has a certain charm to it.
When I look at the game now, sometimes I just want to cry.

The grab animation at 14:00 looked cool. Doesn't the grab animation look the same for both generators and windows now where you just grab their back? Happens so quick now you can't really appreciate it.

Dark like a horror movie. Funny moment with Jake not letting go of the wall. Wish I played back then.

We need this version of claudette in our game as well.
Something close to her, not exactly the same.

Back in the says when sound worked properly....

well the survivors had no idea what they were doing though, but gens took 60s to do and goods gave 5% progress and greats gave 10%, 40 pallets vaccum pallets and vaults, if survivors today were in alpha the killer wouldnt even hit anyone
5 -
the trap set animation is painful

Huh, one tiny thing i seem to like from the alpha is that the map soundtrack starts immediately.
I never really liked the current "camera-pan" noises it makes.

This is beta footage, just for comparison how the game changed since alpha. That dude in the video shows and explains how infinites worked at that time. The killer shack had 2 windows and the survivor could always fast vault, so besides all the good stuff the game already had it was actually one of the worst design ideas the devs had. It was fkin braindead. The cow tree in coldwind farm is just another example, literally every building had infinites and not to forget double pallets everywhere.
Ofc new players didn't know about that stuff but infinites became known very soon to the most players. Those survivors really thought they had skill because they literally held the game hostage and the killer couldn't do anything. And that's not even everything. So the most sad thing is actually that it's only about abusing stuff in multiplayer games nowadays.

Sweet camps lol

I love the look of this too, makes all the actions in current matches look like they're in super speed though, also glad the match loading has a progress bar now. I think infinite loading screen has given me anxiety watching that load into this 😂

Claudette? lol... Mehh? loooool :D so only dwight and jake are there from alpha... GG , also that camera angle.. and ui.. it's better than what is it now. it'll be nice if devs bring customization for the ui .. at least presets like the alpha one, and the early days one... before changing it to today's pretty ugly ui, but i think they started to think about money back then, so they stopped working at the ui and made a pretty ugly one, to have more time to spend on extremely insane priced pixels.. like 10 euro for a skin ... when it's 7 euro a dlc.. .:D

The whole UI is actually much better and more structured now than on (pre-)release times. And it had to change because they planned and kept adding more content. The only thing I would say was better were the maps because they looked much more atmospheric.

Lol y'all are ignoring how the second match has got 3 different strong buildings in one map. Foundry from Ironworks of Misery, Coal Tower and Suffocation Pit's mine. Aight then, let's stick in a couple buildings from coldwind maps at this point, shall we?
