Map hacking is Rampant

Hello all,

I got the game about 2 months ago and I'm now finally at the point where I'm starting to understand it. I've noticed a map hack that seems to only work when 4 people all join your lobby at the same time.

Is there a bug associated with four players overwhelming the lobby instance? Or how is it that these players are able to know my location, as the killer, at nearly all times?

Many of the four-man teams seem to have one individual who stands near me flicking a flashlight on and off and whose job it is to keep track of me and to disarm any traps I lay if I am trapper.

I've had survivors react to me coming towards them without me being within spine chill range Terror radius range or line of sight range.

These groups are essentially map hacking and there should at least be a perk slot called radio location required.

Or killer should get extra bloodpoints where there should be 6 generators needed.

4 man survive with friends is essentially map hacking.

I would indeed also call it cheating.

BHVR is doing nothing about this? They should add +1 gen for 4man SWF

Or a 25% bloodpoints bonus for killer

You can't stop them from using voice comms but you can require 4man swf to do an additional generator

The majority of SWF is just literally people playing with friends. Not denying it gives the edge but stop acting like they are on a personal vendetta against you.

Even if it was possible to remove voice chat it wouldn't be a case of people review bombing it, they would just stop playing.

@MystiKasT It's already much easier for a killer to get bloodpoints than it is for survivors. I see no reason why anyone should need compensation for this.

    @My_Dude Cheating? Really?

That's a bit of an overstatement, don't you think?

I mean, we have seen it over the past days how mature Killers react to changes with all the Legion Threads and claims for Refunds.

@Saint_Ukraine Because killing maphackers is much harder than regular survivors.

@Saint_Ukraine How is maphacking NOT cheating?

  • MystiKasT
    MystiKasT Member Posts: 289

    1) when its safe to unhook

    2) when its safe to do gens

    3) where the hex totem is

    4) when its safe to open gate

    5) where the hatch is

    6) where the traps are

    7) etc.

all things you ARENT supposed to know

@MystiKasT Because they're not hacking, they're just trying to play the game. I don't think you realize how difficult it is for survivors to actually do well without communication; but hey, if you want the easy wins..

How is using a headset to hear audio better comparable to knowing the killers location at all times via friends telling you? @typicalpleb

This is exactly why I am opposed to Voice.

It's misleading and give new players the impression of cheating survivors.

If a solo player first learn the game and the rules and suddenly they encounter SWFs or voice in general they feel cheated because all of a sudden all their previous experience in the game and effort put in is devalued and there is nothing they can do to successfully counter this with in game mechanic alone.

Against good SWFs you need certain perks and killers to be viable and these restrictions frustrates player who just want to have a fun game with their favorite killer and load out.

It ruins the enjoyment of the game for others!

I'm curious; How do you know that?

    Step 1: Go to Twitch.tv

Step 2: Browse to Dead By Daylight

Step 3: Pick any random Survivor that's playing in a SWF

Step 4: Come back here and keep telling that they're just "playing with their friends"

If we use the typical argumentation of the devs this should've been nerfed long ago because it "ruins the fun for the players". It's just a fact. Play Trapper against a SWF and let me know how much fun you had.

Trapper isn't a strong killer. If you want to have a chance winning against good, coordinated SWF groups, you have to play Nurse. Hillbilly can sometimes also work. That's the current state of the game.

I'd really like to see some good buffs for killers and more information for solos (to bring them closer to SWF). Everyone should be able to have fun and win, no matter which role they play.

It's not map hacking, it's coms. Unless the devs can somehow find some way to completely disable coms on both PC and console (wherein they'd lose a massive amount of their playerbase) then you're stuck with it. Not every SWF is a 4-man purple flashlight/insta-heal/BNP/4 toolbox/looping gods. Most are potatoes. And even if they're not potatoes they can still (and do) ######### up. Also not every player knows every map like the back of their hand, sometimes it's a guessing game for SWF too.

I don't think you realize how difficult it is for killers to play the game when survivors literally are running around with walkie talkies....

But hey, if you want easy escapes......

@PiiFree OK, now go to the regular players who ain't trying to make a living off it. People on twitch are trying to show off for viewers.

I think the thing you forget is that this is a video game that is available to everyone and its online Multiplayer. Now if I see a game that has online Multiplayer and I can't talk to my friends whilst playing it, I wouldn't buy it. I am willing to bet that is the same for a massive portion of the players who just bought it to play with friends/family.

I don't care about pipping or rank. Don't really care about blood points either cause I have all perks on the characters I want. I am just playing for fun with friends.

Not got anything against the people who want to be MLG pros but stop acting like its sweaty to play with your girlfriend and friends.

    @Bithard

And you need to stop acting as if everyone plays like you do.

I already aknowledged that many SWFs indeed just play for fun, would be nice if you now could aknowledge that many others do quite the opposite. Using SWFs like yours as a measurement of balance is simply false. You just said yourself, you don't tryhard - you just want to mess around with your friends / family. Totally fine, but that means you most likely won't (and shouldn't) manage to escape.

Tryhard SWF squads create an incredibly unbalanced playground and quite ironically, those are also the players that abuse SWF to win. They WANT to win after all. So why is the game not balanced around those players?

I really don't care if YOU don't play to win, in the end all you do is create boring matches for me as the Killer. I care about high skill matches where people actually want to win, that's where proper balance should take place.

Why would YOU care about balance if you never play to win? So I completly understand that you fail to see the real issues with voice communication. They're non existent because you just play for fun anyway.

@PiiFree I know that there are plenty of try hard SWF teams, not denying that. Does it make the game unfun when killers come across them? Hell yeah! As do the BS perks, camping, looping, tunneling, DCing and all the rest.

My issue with what you are all saying is that you think it's the majority of people that are these hit squad SWF people and it's not, it's the minority.

I have been playing since it came out and have racked up a good 1000 hours and it's always been the same with SFW. Every now and then you get the pricks who ruin the game on both sides. I have met killers who are just as toxic as the survivors who abuse game mechanics, the legion infinite mend glitch being the latest.

Too many players use comms too well.

They know the location of the killer at all times and can do nearly anything they want because of it. I've made exhaustive lists of all the benefits it gives.

A perk called 'walkie talkie' should be required for 4man SWF groups or add 1 generator extra to be done
