The Dedicated Servers Suck

The ping is horrible. You can really tell BHVR rented lower mid-tier (if that) servers & bandwidth.

No one should be playing with 120+ ping. Why are these problems always so specific to DBD?

Quick question about the dedicated servers. Perhaps this has already been answered elsewhere, but how will they change the way you start/get into a game? As it is now, the killer player is the host who starts the game, and survivor players join a game. To my understanding, the main purpose of dedicated servers is to get rid of the need for a host, so I'm just curious how the process of getting into a game for both killer and survivor will change when they arrive.

their intended goal is that everyone arrives at the same time, but since people wanted to complain about the matchmaking system that got reverted, we otherwise wouldve had that vision during the PTB

When I played the PTB I had a stable ping of around 30-35 ms in the lobby.

They have dedicated servers setup in 8 locations. Are you near any of these?

How does it feel to play killer with lag?)

Basically, all 5 players join one game. When I loaded into games, I joined games with 4 Survivors, but without a Killer. Killer was arriving later.

Or, I joined a game with another Survivor, and a Killer. The Killer leaves this lobby, but the Survivors stay. Which is quite nice, because then I do not need to click again and wait again to get into a lobby, because the Killer was afraid of a brown Toolbox.

Regarding the Servers, at the moment you would join servers anywhere. At my first game (Killer) on PTB, I ended up on a Server with 300 ping, even though it did not feel like 300 Ping, it felt better, but still not good. But I have also been in games with 50 Ping and it was laggy and I got hit as Survivor in really ridiculous ways.

How would dedicated servers increase the hit box size?

My average ping on those was 60 so I don't know... but all this proves is how ######### up the hitboxes are. Because getting randomly hit when the killer is years away from you still sucks... and right now the ping can't be blamed anymore on that

I do believe the current servers are virtual, not bare metal.

That said, it's possible that the current dedicated server experience will not be the final experience.

The best anyone can do is try them out if you wish. Report your findings here. If you find the game is unplayable or "un-fun", revert back to the current live P2P game.

I, personally, will be playing on the PTB servers until the double blood points event. I believe, moving forward, moving towards dedicated servers is the only option. There are a few issues facing the game that cannot be controlled with a P2P framework.

Players take these initial changes too seriously. Being critical of something is fine...feedback needs to communicate the extent to where these changes change the game. However, the "little hen/sky is falling" approach is not productive.

If nothing else, playing on the PTB is absolutely hilarious. There are players that still play this game like they bet their house on the outcome. I've had players DC on PTB....ON PTB and you're DCing? Seriously? It's PTB!!!!

See you in the fog...GL HF.

The lag isn't the worst part of things right now.

The worst problem right now appears to be server load. Event triggers (such as gen repair, vaulting, even a player using Dead Hard) will cause the game state to shudder.

I'll kick a gen, and the timing will be completely out of sync...the gen may not actually be kicked, causing me to have to kick it again, or the kick will complete but I'm still locked in position. These things only happen for a second or a faction of a second, but when it happens dozens of times a game, it all ads up.

Bottom line, if everyone just runs around the map and does nothing...there is no discernible lag. No one rubberbanding or teleportation.

Ptb is not populated with players so its hard to report any findings

The issue with that system was that killers had a queue time before they could host a lobby. They weren't waiting to join a dedicated server, they were just waiting to be allowed to open a lobby that they still host for seemingly no reason. On top of that when they did get a lobby it was dumping people from vastly different regions in so there was still 10 minutes or more of staring at a lobby waiting for the countless red ping players to enter, see the ping, leave, and cross your fingers the next lot had green ping.

The current iteration is only there to test server load. No more, no less.
