I think most people don't want this game to be balanced, they want their side to be op.
Seriously.

I mean yeah. That's how it's always gonna be unfortunately. I would love to see the game completely balanced one day but it won't happen. People always take to the "I'm a *blank* main" and that's where the issue comes in. Just wish people would genuinely play both sides so they can see that hey it kinda is balanced but it can be tweaked.

Question is: What exactly is "balanced"?
2 -
Fair for everyone?
10 -
Where the game isn't dictated by people making mistakes, instead rewards for nice plays.
13 -
I play both though. So I guess I want both sides to be OP?
People just assume I'm a killer main though because I still call Survivors out on their BS. Even when I'm experiencing it from their point of view..

Balancing an asymmetrical game isn't really possible. There will always be power shifts to one side or the other as things get added/changed.
11 -
I take issue with changes from time to time....but I'm always willing to report problems that negatively effect both killers and survivors.
I don't have a problem with flashlights, looping, pallets, MoM, DS, or gen rushing.'
The only real problem I can think of is the way in which totems are handled in game. Totems can be very powerful, this much is understood....but the combination of poor placement 70% of the time, as well as the spoon fed notification to survivors is a bit much in my opinion.

Thats true. But both sides could be brought closer together then they are now.

You know..I never had an issue with DS. I would usually find that survivor first anyways and just eat DS and get on with it. MoM though really annoys me to no end. You never know who has it because lately the "meta" perks are MoM DH DS and adrenaline. again fine with DS I get it's purpose but man...MoM just grinds my gears.
Edit: I totally agree with totems though. I can't run them anymore because I know how pointless it is at this point. I can't be bothered to only run 3 perks all game and handicap myself.

That's the dream, but easier said than done.

"balanced" is when everything feels good to play with and against.
4 -
I feel the urge...
Complete Hex build..
Hmm: Huntress, Devour, Ruin, Thrill
I would run Haunted, but I don't buy DLC....and come on, 3rd Seal? I'd only run 3rd seal to be ironic.
Any bets on how long it takes to get all 4?

I'd like to think I bring a balanced perspective to the game. If you look at my post history you'll see that I support changes in favor of both sides or oppose changes that I feel negatively effect one side unfairly.

It seems the ones that completely favor one side do want that side to be OP.

Nearly impossible, I don't know of a single pvp game not building on mistakes of your opponent. It's a big part to punish mistakes in every game.

@Vlieger not true. You can balance an asymmetrical game the same way you balance any other game.
Even if it will usually never be perfect in any game which is sufficiently complex well... that applies to regular games too such as league of legends, TF2, Overwatch (even on symmetrical modes) and even CoD and Battlefront.
Regardless every game does at least in theory have a point which is perfectly balanced, and each change is designed to approach that point.
Saying that balance is impossible is just a pointless thing to say. If you mean that we should just give up on balance forever then guess what that's a terrible idea. And if you don't mean that then what exactly did you just add to the discussion?

If you only play one side ofc your going to want to be OP after all for some reason for a lot of people being able to crush an opponent with ease is fun for many this is why I value people's opinion's that play 50/50 a lot more than an opinion based from a killer or survivor main not saying you can't have good opinions by playing just one "side" but from what I've seen there is way less bias from a 50/50 player.

I sympathise. I play survivor but I don't touch perks like MoM, old DS, Adren etc. I play killer but not Billy and Nurse, yet whenever I give an opinion that something popular yet annoyingly strong should be changed, I'm suddenly a "salty other side main."

It's more like, we have different definitions of "balanced", and then the devs seem to have their own way of looking at it too. The way I see it, both killers and survivors should have about the same chances to get a decent amount of BP and pips. But 50% as a desired escape ratio is crazy. Escape should be a very rare event, I'd say about 10%.
I understand this game is moving away from horror genre towards the "horror comedy" genre (Evil Dead... ugh), but I think it's a wrong direction.

Fully balancing this game isn't possible but some things should still be changed.
Things that are OP and impossible to fight unless other side makes mistakes, some killers being garbage if survivors just want to finish gens quickly.
I don't think there is an option to remove some things like killer just staring you down on the hook.
This game needs new mechanics to fix these issues but it would take time.
Also, things like MoM or old DS are simply too powerful for games that CAN finish in 4 minutes. Trapper becomes useless.

Even if "balanced"....meaning; when played to it's fullest potential, the game will never feel balanced because of the infinite variable....the players.
Truth be told, this game has always favored survivors...but it's not the design of the game or it's mechanics. It's kind of just the way it happens.
When I talk about it's fullest potential, I'm talking about mistakes and errors. In this game, the killer is an opportunist at best. Killer do nothing actively to catch and hook survivors if you really think about it. They patrol the map waiting for survivors to expose themselves from hiding or make mistakes on skill checks.
Remove survivor mistakes completely, a 100% error free survivor match, and the killer won't get a single hook. No matter how "good" the killer might be...without survivor errors, your just walking around a map watching gens be completed.
The nerf to BNP confirmed this a while ago.

I want the game to be fun for both sides, but some people do seem to have that goal in mind.

In an asymmetrical game, one member of the weaker role should never be able to 1v1 one member of the stronger role unless their skills are vastly different.
In a perfectly balanced asymmetrical game and with two players of equal skill, one member of the weaker role should be absolutely destroyed when they try to 1v1 one member of the stronger role.

Orion that is true in a way but the problem is that team games fail miserably in my opinion. People just can't work together like they should and dbd is very often everyone for himself.

@George_Soros You have to understand that true horror would be next to impossible with this kind of game. There's a lot of repeated actions and while you might find yourself frightened every once in a while, getting used to something often dulls to the horror.
Saying that that there should be a lower survival rate is misguided, too. That's like saying survivors should typically escape. There's players playing the other role. Players who'll probably stop playing if they find winning, achievements, and dailies too hard.

Besides the fact assymetrical games are incredibly hard to balance and makes the very definition of balance harder to nail, you're not wrong. There's a lot of incredibly biased people on both sides in this community.
My favorite is when someone makes a completely fair arguement where they point out that using everything (that isn't straight up against the rules of course) to win is fine, aka a simple competitive mindset... and in the very same post whine about the other side doing the same thing in return.

@fluffybunny I'm not really "suggesting" such a concept: I realize most players would not like it, there's no way it's going to happen, and I'm fine with it. Just saying I'd like it better that way. Personally, most of the time I don't mind being brutally murdered if I had done well in a game as survivor.
And yeah, you're right about "horror" factor wearing off very quickly. But sometimes it comes back with a new chapter or paragraph, when it's well done. For me, Ash and the whole Evil Dead franchise is just meh.
I just realized, I'm going off topic with this too much. To the OP: I'm not so sure. Most people, even the loudest proponents of one side or another would get bored in no time if one side was actually, truly OP. 90% of them (ok, us) are just venting frustration when screaming for nerfs and buffs. The game is in quite a good state balance wise, the only real problem is the addon system.

@FSB775
as well as the spoon fed notification to survivors is a bit much in my opinion.
Once upon a time, the game didn't shoot off fireworks and have a nuclear strike alarm to alert the rest of survivors when a hex perk had been triggered. You can thank the dev's decision to "bring solo comms up to SWF VoIP comms" for that. While the intentions were good, it completely destroyed the entire mechanic to near uselessness.
