It's not Ghostface if he doesn't have his classic suit. It's not Ghostface if he doesn't come with a Woodsboro map and most importantly, it's not Ghostface without Sidney Prescott.
You could argue a similar thing for Leatherface though. They only got the rights for the name and mask, and they worked hard to keep it in character. Besides, wasn't half the schtick that Ghostface is whoever dons the mask?
I understand why what happened did happen. But what I consider stupid is how they try to play it off like it's some great thing that they planned. Bragging about how they can come up with their own original lore for the character as if it's a great achievement. Acting like we're all a bunch of brain dead monkeys is just a sign of disrespect that pisses me off.
You do realize that the Ghostface is the mask right? It's been around way longer than the movies, Even the Scream movies were built around the mask that Fun World owns. The film legit didn't even have a finalized idea of what the killer would look like in the film before they saw the mask. In the script it was just called "masked killer" and they had to make the rest of the costume up while filming.

I agree, but my understanding is Funworld not only has rights to the mask, but the knife and movie robe as well. We have the mask and knife, so maybe they'll add the robe. Also, there are a number of references to the Scream films in this Ghostface dlc.

When was the last time you looked at the original robes? They are literally one of those cheap halloween costume you'd buy a walmart. That's a main point in the moive as well. Anyone could be Ghostface as anyone can just buy that costume off store shelves and go on to kill people.
I for one like that the devs made their own version. It isn't something I see 100 people use every single year. Ghostface, Grim Reaper, random phantom, those same robes are used for EVERYTHING! I for one could never not see a Killer in those robes as anything but some kid pestering people like Iv watched them do for decades now. Hell, I did that myself as a kid!

Fun World just owns the Mask as they created it. The rest of the costume was made Dimension Films people. The knife is a custom model of the Buck 120 Hunting Knife, but Buck discontinued that model as customers complained it was too big for skinning animals.
No Sidney or Woodsboro is sad. I knew before the stream. Still would have been awesome.

He watched any of the Scream movies ghostface is never a consistent killer it's literally people who put on the mask for completely different reasons while they all might be tied towards Sidney, it's always different people putting on the mask.
In fact the role was so easily ambiguous that for three and of the four movies there were two people interchangeably playing the ghost face role.
So then making their own original character to fit the mask is not a complete miss track from the franchise.
I personally enjoy it... the devs always do well and can do more with their own product

I literally started off my first post by saying "I understand why what happened did happen", but I guess y'all just glossed straight the hell over that, huh? If you actually bothered to read my statement instead of only hear what you want, it's entirely clear that I don't have a problem with them only being able to get the rights to the appearance and using what they can to make their own Ghostface killer. My problem was that they acted like it was their intention and that not getting the movie rights was a genius move on their part. They so blatantly play that card, it's as if they think we're too stupid to understand that they only got half the rights they needed to put the movie killer in the game. But apparently, some people are a bit too stupid to understand what happened so I guess it's a valid spin even if it is disrespecting to people who have my level of intellect if not yours.

I have to agree on that. In my opinion there is more then just the visual apperance to a character. its not ghostface just because he looks like him (and even that isnt really acomplished with "just" the mask). A Character have many diffenent things to it. Every movie killer, or character in gernal has a specific vibe to it. And thats what makes them Myers, Freddy, Chucky, Samara, Ghostface etc. By adding a Killer, with a new unqiue backstory a new outfit, and nothing else we connact with him, exept the mask, doesnt make him the killer. its just a cheap ripoff or an original killer. but then dont advertise him as ghostface. thats my opion atleast.
I agree, BUT, what they're doing with Ghostface is not entirely inaccurate to the films, as it is a different person wearing the Ghostface costume in each film. So, since they couldn't get film rights, it makes perfect sense to create an original character to don the Ghostface costume, again, because that's what happened with each Scream film . Plus, they do have the 90's cell phone, the blade wipe, a mori straight out of the first Scream film, and the correct Buck 120 knife. The tape and rope in the trailer were also references to the first 2 kills in the first Scream film. On top of all of that, they said themselves that they're going with a bit more of a lighter tone with Ghostface in the game, another nod to the films.
The mask existed before the film so I would argue that what the devs have done is no different to what the filmmakers did. They got a license for a mask to use in their film/game and then wrote a backstory for the person(s) beneath it.
Would I have liked a fully licensed ‘Scream’ chapter? Of course, but it would appear that’s not possible and I quite like the alternative that’s been created.
This is ridiculously good. There is something about the simplicity on this render that makes me think "Party City cheap costume" which is in the same tone as the film.
The current default though...looks like it came out of Assasin's Creed, and almost looks too medieval, not like regular crazy person just threw on a store bought hood. So I'm glad we got ONE that looks more in the same tone of the film.
I'm sad that we didn't get Sidney Prescott, I'd have mained her in a heartbeat. But I'm not disappointed about Ghostface at all. Sure the outfit that I've seen looks a little weird. But I'm sure it will have some cosmetics to help. And it being a different person also works. Every Scream movie had a different one, majority of them having two killers. So it can be anyone. Hope the new map is interesting, safe to say though for me I can't wait.

I would prefer this tbh. Imagine ghostfaces robe but with a different mask. It wouldn’t make it feel the right. Ghostface is the mask this way they can do cosmetics no problem
I prefer this Ghostface with his own sorta story. Plus the flowing cloth wraps on his arms actually serve well in giving a Ghost appearance.
