Competing for Pips - Ranking Suggestion
As Survivor why not have a competition for a pip per trial.
To elaborate, I think all emblem points or anything that goes towards process of ranking up, should be limited and finite. A pool if you will. As Survivors complete tasks and save each other SAFELY, then you gain progress. However, any Survivor that is hooked or downed amongst other things including missed skillchecks, is set back in progress from pipping.
There are only a maximum of 2 pips that Survivors can earn cumulatively, meaning only 2 out of 4 Survivors can pip and earn progress to rank. The rest will black pip or lose a pip.
I think this would add a new dynamic to Survivor gameplay and further reinforces group teamwork but also individuality and selfishness healthily. Self preservation.
To further elaborate, many consequential actions and mistakes of Survivors also contribute to setting back progress from pipping in a match.
Including but not limited to:
Missed Skillchecks
Unsafe Unhooks
Kiting the Killer (with the exception of a carried Survivor)
And other small instances. I believe this will also help induce more skill based and interesting Survivor gameplay as well.
And with the proposed change to how killers rank up, I think this would be a fine addition.
In a way you will be competing with other Survivors to not only survive but rank up as well. I think that would be a fun dynamic.

Let's add another level of potential toxicity to an already toxic community. No offense, but the community at large is not even close to mature enough to handle something like that gracefully.

I think it would just need to be implemented well.

this is already a thing, if the killer does poorly ( which most killers tend to be bad ) then theres only so much survs can do to try and rank up.

This isn't for the current ranking system, if I recall correctly on the anniversary live stream the Killers may no longer pip the way they do now. How they rank up is set by standards for each individual killer. With that change in mind this is ancillary, an addition or suggestion for the future ranking update.

I don't think the emblem system should be abolished, the emblem system is very specific when it comes to chasing and objectives etc. However, the amount of points you get to progress rank is now finite and is essentially a pool.
If all you do is run around without doing gens, thats fine. You will get an iridiscent in the chaser emblem, however other Survivors will be unable to reach iridiscent chaser emblem.
Currently there are 4 emblems. There are also a corresponding 4 Survivors, meaning it's possible to still make significant progress in at LEAST 1 emblem. I'm suggesting this idea be merged with the emblem system for Survivors. The only difference is that now only so many Survivors can pip within a match. Anyone who still does alot can black pip, or if they perform even worse depip.
