Always wanted to ask this but didn't know how to describe it. Why do players do gen tapping?

bad

Because they don't want to get good at Ruin skill checks. The really pathetic ones are those with obvious macros to do the work for them.

They gen tap to not trigger the skill check when there's Ruin. I'd say it's better to get good at hitting greats, lol.

To avoid skill checks or avoid grabs.

You know I never gen tap, and I'm pretty good at greats. But I don't dare do it because failing at it is possible, and I don't want to bring the killer to me because I'm not that good at chases. So I end up hitting the good skill checks which obviously regresses it.

If you’re not that good with chases, try to use spine chill. Saved me so many times. It combos well with UE or lightweight.

If you're not too good in chases, you can practice looping with WoO. It's good for finding where safety is and you can see if you're in a safe area or an unsafe area without having to look around. You can see if someone uses a pallet near to you. It's good to practice looping where you can too. c:

- They don’t want to get good at Ruin skillchecks.
- To prevent grabs. I wouldn’t be surprised if more Survivors are gen tapping now to avoid grabs just to make it harder for Killers to get the new achievement.

Mainly to avoid ruin skillchecks but you can also use this strategy to avoid grabs from spirit when you can't hear her and so on.

To avoid skillchecks, grabs or making the gen repair noise. The last one is pretty rare but it can let you finish a gen under the killer's nose if they are listening for the sound.
Don't really have to gentap to avoid grabs even against something like prayer beads, just let go for a moment now and then and it decreases the odds of getting grabbed significantly.
Doing it to avoid skillchecks is just a bad habit. I'm nowhere near as good at hitting consistent greats as some people, but if I just refused to even try to learn I'd be way worse than I am now.

What's WoO?

They don't feel like rushing the killer... since it will take them a century to finish the gen.

Also I heard there were was a glitch where if you finished the gen you wouldn't get the points, so you had to stop repairing the gen just before the gen was completed. I think it was repaired but I still do it out of habit.

To avoid skill checks on ruin. I did it once when my skill check wheel was invisible.

Only time I've "tapped" is when I'm almost done with a gen and a killer is coming at me. I'll let off, take a hit, and finish it. But I wouldn't even call that tapping as much as avoiding a grab for a moment.

People use it too avoid skill checks. it's dumb because I'm pretty sure that it makes gens take longer then if they just learned how too skill check.

Cuz they can't land skill checks with ruin up

It kinda seems like you're just setting yourself up for a down. Do you run Dead Hard or Sprint Burst so you can avoid the Killer's second attack?

I dont commit unless it's like 95% on their approach. Otherwise I abort. But usually SB if in trying to get things done. Balanced/lithe otherwise.
