So I Just Picked up the Game and Wanting to Play Killer and...
...this game is mental. Not only is the new player experience here one of these worst I have ever witnessed, but trying to play killer when you're new to the game is a joke. It's no wonder survivors are constantly complaining about queue times when new killers have to deal with crap like this.
Let's start from the top. You're a new killer and you really have no perks. Sloppy butcher seems pretty okay but that's one perk. You have nothing to slow gen speeds down so by the time you hook one guy they only have 2 gens left. So finally you get this guy hooked but by then they already have 3 gens done. If you stay in the general area to defend this hook your screwed cause they're just gonna finish all the gens. But if you leave they're just gonna unhook this dude and you're back to square 1 but with multiple gens done.
So the exit gates open, you have no kills cause you have nothing to slow down gen speeds and they can unhook with I frames (why? like come on there's practically no punishment for unhooking not to mention they can body block hooks themselves) and now you figure "well crap guess I'll just get one of them down and take 1 kill as a consolation prize but nooo they're gonna swarm the hook like flies get this dude off and there's damn near nothing you can do to stop them from unhooking and then body blocking your attempted attacks on the injured guy.
Not only this but in the mean time while your getting looped in jungle gyms and screwed in buildings they're gonna be using flash lights on you and tea bagging the whole time. It's like they can't comprehend that there's a real person playing the killer. Without killers there is no game. Period. So why do you treat them like crap in game?
Ohhh and the cherry on top the post game chat. Come on guys what's wrong with you. If I lose they call me a trash ass kid, and if I win they call me a trash ass toxic ass camper/tunneler who needs to play by their made up rules. It's almost like they don't even want to play.
On top of all of this as a new killer you have almost no perks, and probably no perks worth a damn and you're gonna be dealing with sprint burst, dead hard, self heal, decisive strike and all sorts of other crap at rank 3 every god damn game.
Just last game I played against this bastard who had a purple flashlight with the red add on and full top tier perks tea bagging all game and taking every possible chance to blind me and block hooks like a prick. Then at the end of the game the gates are open and he decides to try to save this Kate who's downed, in the process get's downed himself, ends up dying, then in post game he flames me for not letting him keep his red add on.
Look I'm sorry but this is absurd. The devs are completely insane if they think they can maintain a healthy player base when the game is this toxic to killer sin general, and this absurdly un fun towards new killers. I mean come on. This is simply unacceptable.

Endgame chat will always be full of unhappy people despite what you do.
Do what favors you more in a trial as a killer, even if that is securing your kill. I'd just recommend getting Ruin just so you have more time to chase survivors around and while grinding bloodpoints to get ruin ; Try to see everything as a experience from which you can learn, even if the matches went really bad because that'll eventually make you a solid killer.

you're getting looped at rank 20? somehow i doubt that

Time of day makes a huge difference I’ve noticed. On weekdays, there are much more docile survivors to practice on up until 5-6 pm (central time, USA for me). That’s when people get home from work and get together with their SWF buddies. Toxicity ensues. Weekends and holidays have more of a steady mix between the 2 types of players.

It gets easier as you boost the player's perks but yes, you're going to get toxic players and I've seen more in this game than I like. Get in some practice, build those perks up and maybe watch some Youtube tutorials and you'll soon pick up soom strategies. It's also worth playing survivor too - I found I did better playing both sides as you learn a lot from it.
Bear in mind you are going to get some SWF groups with high levels possibly included, who will make life difficult for you. I've just had such a team dc while the match was loading - I'm a rank 15 killer, I got 2 rank 20s, 1 rank 16 and a rank 5. It will happen, just roll with it and move on to the next. There are good games out there.

Believe me, It's pretty easy when the match making is this broken and rank 17 killers are getting matched with rank 6 survivors. My games usually go like this. There's 2 people I can absolutely destroy because they have no clue whats going on, and then 2 other people who are above rank 10 with maxed out perks and often flash lights. Because of the crap from the high rank survivors I can't do shift and end up getting screwed and then flamed for being bad.
How's that fair?

this all comes down to matchmaking being a busted mess, then. if you've just picked up the game you should be going against other survivors who are similarly new, not experienced survivors with full perk builds and items
and in that case i totally empathize. i've been matched against newer killers and the game is not only boring but it makes me feel bad that this is the sort of experience that constitutes their introduction to the game
as you get better, these things will be less of an issue for you, but you shouldn't be exposed to people who know how to properly loop and spread gen pressure at this point in your time playing
my best advice would be to not feel bad about losing to people with considerably more experience than you, and certainly pay no attention to the miserable people who give you ######### in postgame chat for being new to the game

Killer queue time: 30 minutes
Survivor queue time: 30 seconds
Hmmm.

BHVR: We will spend more money buying licenses for characters than to fix our own game.
Joking aside, they do need to help out new players with the progression system because basically the first game you play you will 100% lose at least as killer. Killers take too much skill to master, at least the good ones and newer players will either have to play low tier killers or try to learn the good ones and get destroyed multiple games in a row. Either way its just bad.

@urilbedamned do you play on ps4? If so i could add you and do some catch and release help you with the learning experience

That's the initiation period. If you get through this, you'll have a lot of fun with the game later. Just two things to keep in mind. One, don't expect to win very often if you are new. That's not reasonable. And two, learn to ignore offensive chat for now. You'll enjoy it later, when you start destroying trolls.
Seriously, that's the most fun in the game. You get better, keep notes of the most annoying survivors, and sooner or later you find yourself eviscerating a whole bunch of them. Then you can enjoy their undignified whining in chat about "camping", "tunneling" or some other nonsense.

Lmao I keep a similar list I call it the blacklist any toxic survivor goes on it and as killer Ill throw in a mori for the blacklisted player and if there are multiple here comes my top tier moris
2 -
When starting out I found it easier to play survivor to get used to the game and see how killers play then I started putting points into my killer of choice (The Cannibal for BBQ) but without actually playing as him.
Once I had some usable perks then I started to ease myself into playing killer a little bit.
There ARE really good players below rank 15 even in mid/late season. Sometimes after bad games against lesser-rank players I check their trophy list. I see achievements for 100 24 metre hatchet throws, grabbing people off gens with a 3 blink nurse and some with platinums.

Take it from someone whose been playing this game for 3 years. Your experience is going to generally be about the same even where you get good at playing killer. You'll get kills and wins more consistently, but overall from a person to person standpoint you're rarely going to be treated like a human being. Survivors will treat you like a spooky amusement ride if you let them. So, get it in your head early on that you're playing for you and not them. Do what you need to do to win and rank up. Don't listen to their rules about fair play. As a matter of fact close the chat window at the end screen and never open it again.

700 h killer main
After a long break , I played Ghostface.
I had 2 toxic SWF team.
The end of the story, I didnt use Ghostface power, but I made a 4k.
And they still needed 5 gens.
How did I do it?
I know 24/7 what they are doing, because they are toxic SWF with flashlight.
They use OoO, other perks and OP items.
But they do always the same mistakes.
As killer player, you need mindgames more than the killer power.
And thats kinda bulls*****t.

Welcome to the killer's life. It is not for everyone. You have to learn to take loses and enjoy your victories. In time you will have more victories than loses. Also, laugh at the dead survivors at the chat, that's like half of the fun for me ;-)
2 -
Its funny, because this is rly realistic.
What if you must bet a killer 1000 times in a row?
And when you die, you respawn.
I would be pissed in real life.

This game is hard for everyone at first, there's a lot to learn and the game brings up a lot of emotions that blurs judice. Take it easy or else you'll just play bad and feel bad for it.
The fact toxic people exist doesn't help, but hiding the chat does.
Also redefining what is toxic helps: if you start considering looping, tbagging and flashlights (which were nerfed into oblivion a year ago, btw) toxic you'll have a miserable experience. Just see them for what they are: strategies with a specific purpose (yes even tbagging, often it is used to make the killer mad and make him play bad and focus only on one survivor, often the best one at looping).
I suggest you to watch some streamers if you want to get better faster. One I would recommend is Hybrid Panda, who might not be the best at the game but has a great attitude that might help you take it easier.

You poor poor soul. Should of spent your money on a proper horror game by devs who actually have respect for the genre.

I apologize for our behavior, at least 30% of this community is on the toxic side :(

'It's no wonder survivors are constantly complaining about queue times when new killers have to deal with crap like this.'
Survivors constantly complaining about queue times? I have not seen this, been killers complaining about it lately.
3 -
You are right it is not for everyone; yet too many people pick killer thinking they get to take the power trip and find out differently.
Least they don't risk getting eliminated from the match. Which brings me to my second point - killers should not expect love nor respect from the other players they are trying to eliminate from play. You are trying to murder them after all.
2 -
"killers should not expect love nor respect from the other players they are trying to eliminate..."
So true. We don't want their love or friendship; just their blood, screams and saltysalty tears :-D

You're new to the game and it's easy for anyone to get discouraged at first. Right now things may seem completely absurd and yes, it may seem a bit unfair to get paired with rank 6 survivors when you're a rank 20, but it's not always going to be that way.
It may not seem like it, but when you're playing against people who are at a higher skill level, that's going to improve your play in the long run. That may not sound fun, but I promise you that's the case. If things get too frustrating, take a break, switch the killer, and just give it time. I promise you this game is loads of fun once you get into the swing of everything. The community isn't as bad as you think it is. The bad just always overshadows the good, but trust me there's a whole lot of good in it.

Dude, just keep playing, you'll get better, I swear, it's just like this every time a new guy enters, you'll become a killer in personality, the rage this guys make you feel will let your inner belcebu come out.
Here are a few tips:
1° Play survivor, you'll get what they usually do, use mic and join a game of Survive With Friends for you to learn what high rank survivors usually do.
2° Try different killers, to begin the game, the nurse is the hardest to play, whyle the doctor is the easiest of them all for you to get the hang of it. As soon as you see "No One Escapes Death" get it for all your killers, best perk ever,
3° Don't camp unless they have done all the generators (take in mind you're new, so camping is somehow not a bad idea for the moment).
4° Use the bloodpoints you got from playing survivor with friends to upgrade your killers.
5° Don't take S from anyone, they will always talk BS against you, even if you don't camp or tunnel them, enjoy the gameplay. This game is for you to enjoy solo as a killer (you're the bad guy, feel the devil inside you) or to enjoy as a team (with a mic in a party) by playing survivor.

Come to the Dark side. Learn how to play Freddy and you will have unlimited power.
At least until the rework happens.

I have player level of 16.
I have Killers ranked anywhere from 1-20.
I have Survivors ranked anywhere from 1-15.
I can get into a game anytime I want as a Survivor.
I haven't gotten into a game as a Killer with ANY rank in at least a month. I have sat and waited up to 20 minutes with different ranks and it makes no difference. I have tried at multiple times of the day as well. However, when I play on PS4 I do not have this issue.

I feel for killers, most I encounter in my games are very chill in post game chat, (there are exceptions) . I play 25%killer, and people just tbag for no reason. Earlier, just played with SWF team (seemed like it, they kept on trading items) where I got mega gen rushed and looped by flashlights by ranks 8, 9, 12, 15 when I am at rank 19 for my playstyle. Matchmaking should be fixed, it's a disaster again :0

Don’t give up and don’t let toxic survivors get to you. You should play some survivor to get some experience going against killers. That really helped me when I first started to play killer better.
I’m a red rank sweaty killer lol. I play dirty as hell. Tunnel and proxy camp them. I never feel bad for anyone. Gradually move to basement until eventually you can hook someone in a basement. It’s very hard to save from basements.
Be a toxic killer, use noed(No One escapes death) when it appears on your bloodweb. Camp and tunnel their asses. Slug the person that was unhooked and don’t pick them up right away to avoid decisive strike. Hit people that want to unhook and make sure you try to hit the person again that is unhooking to avoid borrowed time and have a new hook. You can slug them to chase the unhooked person. Don’t be afraid to stop chasing a survivor that is hard to hit. Most likely they’ll try to come protect someone you downed and then that will be your chance to hit them and down in most cases.
Some killers have good perks to counter flashlights. Everyone loves Franklin’s demise from leatherface to knock items out of their hands haha. But also consider Overwhelming Presence from the doctor, and Lightborne from the billy. One makes them use up their flashlight
Don’t feel bad for anyone. Don’t give hatch or let anyone escape because you feel bad for them. Always try facing a wall when picking up a survivor to avoid flashlight saves. Deerstalker and bitter mumur are great perks available to everyone. Deerstalker you can find people you slug. Bitter murmur you see auras of survivors who completed gens. When all gens are done you see all surivovor’s auras for a short period. Great when paired with “no one escapes death”.
Try playing killers that are categorized as “easy” first before playing the harder killers.
Good luck!

To quote myself from Reddit:
- generator takes 80 seconds without toolboxes or perks
- chase (including time to find a survivor and time to hook a survivor) can easily take 80 seconds
- 3 survivors can do gens while 1 survivor is chased
- 3 gens can be done in the time it takes to hook 1 survivor
- survivors do 60% of their objective in the time it takes killer to do 8% of their objective
- bhvr wonders why ruin is mandatory
- bhvr wonders why newer killers camp
- bhvr wonders why killers dodge lobbies with toolboxes
- bhvr wonders why adrenaline is so strong
- bhvr wonders why noed is so strong
If the new Survivor experience is bad the new Killer experience is bloody intolerable. I still remember the first time I played Killer I was a Rank 20 Trapper with Bitter Murmur 1 and nothing else, and I went up against a team of Rank 10s with full perk builds. I literally didn't touch Killer for months after that. I still thank my Killer main friend for telling me to grab Ruin when it was on the Shrine. Without it I likely would have never played Killer ever.
Gens need to be considerably slower. Either that or chases need to be done way faster (which is what I'd prefer since no one likes M1 simulator.) Currently it's way to easy for Survivors to do their only objective in a near-instant, and the only caviat of "clense totems for NOED potentially" is not enough of an incentive to do anything else since it's near impossible to find all 5 totems without the help of perks or items.
Truthfully it's not even a problem that Survivors only have one objective. Killers only have one objective of killing, but the thing is that there's a lot of sub-categories to that task. (Controlling generators, managing the map, and just generally downing and hooking survivors.) All Survivors have to do is hold down Mouse 1 on a gen and then hold down Mouse 1 on an exit gate.
This game has very low retention rate and an even lower retention rate for Killer players and I know it. I have many friends who don't play the game as much as I do and almost all of them say that they hate the Killer experience. It's such poor design that half of the game relies on you buying half a dozen DLC (Leatherface for BBQ, Hag for Ruin, and for a lot of other Killers DLC perks are mandatory like Monitor and Abuse for Myers or Make Your Choice for Hag) just to be operating at a baseline effective level. Meanwhile almost all the Survivor perks you need are in the base Survivors' kits (Self Care, Adrenaline, Borrowed Time, Exhaustion perks
excluding Lithe) and Survivor generally has a far shallower learning curve then Killer.2 -
good lord if a new killer main starts complaining at rank 20 the community is forever doomed to be toxic ,geez, r20 are the most potato ######### ever i doubt you can get genrushed all the time that low, even i dont get genrushed at r18 killer

Welcome to Dead by Daylight!
Actually, I thought the toxic scum kicked in at Rank 16 or so, but I'm sure many SWF groups intentionally derank so they can pick on new players like you.

I don't think it's bad matchmaking exactly in the way you think. I think those rank 5 survivors are friends with rank 20 survivors and that's putting them against rank 20 killers. Personally I feel like the highest ranked survivor should determine the killer's rank.
