Exit gates after hatch is closed - can’t escape.
My apologies if this has already been discussed before, but I’d like to talk about how it is almost impossible to successfully open an exit gate as the last survivor.
After the killer closes the hatch, as the last survivor, I have escaped a total of 2 times through the exit gates since the introduction of Endgame Collapse. I’ve tried to run to and from both gates and opening them both slightly with every run, I’ve tried to focus on one gate and open it with every run the killer makes to the other gate, but they always end up finding me in the end. There’s no viable way to open the gates without the killer catching on.
I’ve resorted to just not bothering with the gates and waiting to be sacrificed by The Entity.
I’d like to hear of how most of you deal with this issue as the last survivor and I’d also like to suggest a solution: to not have the power lights on the exit gates light up for the killer, so that they do not know which gate is being worked on.
Let me know your thoughts!

thats not true at all as myers i was patrolling the gates and they was in close proximity and i kept tabs on both for a good while the survivor still managed to get out as i got round about half way closer ..... so its entirely possible. you just wait till the killers gone try hide maybe pop the gate abit urban evade away? maybe try go for the other gate? im not sure what else solo survivor too escape sucks but its entirely possible if they aint the likes of billy or nurse. as for no lights on the exit gate too be opened no thats unbalanced and stupid as hell. you shouldnt get a free escape and the killer having no idea which one because of dimmed lights .... its the end game for a reason risk involved and that you can die. no more free escapes after all these years

That’s actually what I normally do: I open a gate and hide when I hear the killer closing in, wait for them to leave, go back to it and continue opening and so on. The problem with this is that my location is now revealed to the killer because of the lights and they can now just focus on finding me instead of heading back to the other gate.
I’m not sure how suggesting that the lights be dimmed for the killer is a free escape - dimming the lights won’t affect the killer’s ability to continue patrolling both gates.
It is a bit of a stretch, I admit, but I’d love to hear other suggestions that would make it more balanced.

Once the killer closes the hatch, yeah, the last survivor is kind of screwed. They have to hope the gates are far apart and the killer checks the other gate first. I've tried just hanging out at the gate and waiting for the killer to find the hatch, hit the gate immediately once it was closed, of course they checked my gate first. Unless you are an amazing survivor going against a not so great killer, it's game over once the killer finds you.

It can be done, has been done, and gates are randomized for all to see long before the last survivor scenario is reached. If you notice they are close together, prioritize the hatch followed by the gate with the most cover.

It's supposed to be unlikely to escape through an exit gate. This is honestly the 3rd chance for survivors. Your team was unable to do generators in time. You couldn't find the hatch first. And now your 3rd chance is the gates. The killer is supposed to have the advantage after sucessfully stopping the survivors from doing gens and getting to hatch first.

There is a difference between "advantage" and being able to check both exit gates without moving.

Yeah and its also really easy to get out when its a full map split. Some maps are more optimal for a particular side, but gates can be in anyone favor.

I 100 percent agree except I would like it so doors wont spawn on certain maps on the same wall or in relatively close proximity to one another. I dislike it as both survivor and killer.
Honestly I wish Hatch still didnt spawn till at least 2 gens were done in a game regardless. It rewards bad players for doing nothing and punishes good killers for doing a good job.
I've had games with randoms as a survivor that will do good, but right after a survivor dies they immediately stop doing anything productive and start hiding in purple and red ranks. While good survivors do the stuff and get punished for it because they were productive.
As killer I have destroyed a team before even one gen has been done, but hatch can still spawn. Doesn't that just give people incentive to switch from being productive to basically just lingering in the background since they can try to get the free exit and if they don't complain.
TLDR: I agree with you except doors should have a proximity check to one another. Hatch should not spawn unless 2 generators are done so survivors still have to be productive in the game.

These are some pretty solid tips, thanks so much for taking the time to write these out!

Option 5: Give up, conclude that the game is unfair for not letting you escape easily and complain at the forum until they change it.

That said if you guarantee that the gates spawn split by a certain amount, it turns closing the hatch into a free loss for most M1 killers.
It would further the issue that high mobility killers like Nurse, Billy and Spirit are a complete step apart from other killers, and grant them yet another benefit that other killers can't compete with.
I'd prefer this luck-based system where MAYBE you get screwed by the gate spawn and MAYBE the killer gets screwed by it, than "Let's nerf all M1 killers more and not affect Billy/Nurse."

Not sure why my airing my grievances affects you so negatively; this post was also meant as an invitation for survivors more experienced than me to suggest ways to combat the problem, which many have already done. Hope your day gets better.

Rember all the posts from killers complaining about how unfair DS and Selfcare etc were because they gave survivors undeserved chances at survival ?
The end game collapse is an even worse crutch for killers who didnt manage to find the last survivor. A free kill without much skill or effort involved.
With the horrible code quality this company delivers most of the time exit gates get "generated" next to each other, taking a killer only seconds to patrol them both.
While endless hatch standoffs are equally cheesy this was the worst possible solution these clowns could have come up with once again.

The odds are heavily stacked in the killer's favor, if the killer is worth their weight in pocket lint. That said, it is not impossible, you need to be patient, and a bit of luck/bad decision making by the killer can help.
Personally, I absolutely hate EGC as both killer and survivor. It is a fiasco, but oh well. It's better than having the occasional group of morons teabagging at the exits for 10 minutes. lol

I e noticed if I can find the hatch, then the killer has to. I dont go for the hatch, I wait by the gates and hit them immediately. If I'm running spine chill, even better. Wake up is also becoming more useful.

Power a gate to just under the amount that makes a light turn on, what for killer to check, the second they're out of hearing range jump back on it and just hold it, no matter what. If iller goes for the grab, release, take the hit, then continue, and you might get it open

Option 2 and 3 have both worked for me on several occasions. I've found 3 difficult to execute on the biggest maps as it's very time consuming, but it can absolutely work otherwise.

No. The hatch was a survivor crutch for 2 years. It is fine the way it is now

I think the timer should be a bit longer if there is only one survivor left during egc. It would make stealth tactics more viable.

its only fair:
survivor finds the hatch first --> free escape
killer finds the hatch first --> almost guaranteed kill
if you look at it that way, the mechanic actually favours survivors. yes, its hard to escape after the killer shut the hatch, but its not impossible. imo it should stay that way.

The EGC can be BS sometimes as the gates can spawn within LoS of each of other, but the same can apply to the killer where each one spawns across the map.
Honestly, we just need a minimum/maximum exit gate spawning rule, and we'll be good. It would be even better if the rule changed depending on your killer's mobility. :)

It's not impossible, you just need to open the gate when you know it's safe: you have two minutes, don't rush and think it through.
An useful trick btw is to open the gate to no more than 24%, waiting for the killer to check the gate and after he's gone to fully open it. This because at 25% the first light turns on, notifying the killer of your presence, so you must stop right before this. After that you only need to expose yourself for 15 seconds instead of 20 to fully open the gate, making it really hard for the killer to catch up in time.
