Sidney Prescott Discussion
I know that DbD was not able to include Sidney because someone else has the rights to the character but why did they not agree to put her in the game? Can someone explain pls? I’m very curious to find out. Who has the rights for Sidney?
I really like Sidney and wish she was in the game. Maybe if we all Scream fans join forces and ask the owner of her rights to allow DbD to have her in the game they would change their mind? Tho it’s probably more complicated than that, someone can explain this process to me too. I’m a noob when it comes to this kinds of stuff.

I think its extremely complicated due to multiple reasons. Combined with the unfortunate death of Wes Craven and the uncertainty of the Harvey Weinstein position with Scream: The TV Series Season 3, I dont see any clarity in this. I think the most you could hope for is a lesser character from the TV series.
(Personally I wouldnt mind Brooke from the first 2 seasons. If movies were an option but Sidney was out then I'd like Kirby)

Because the license is not for the ghostface killer from Scream or anything to do with the movies. It’s for the Ghostface mask, available in Halloween stores long before the movie. This is a DBD original killer wearing the mask. Not ideal, but it’s how they were able to make it happen at all.

If they get the okay for movies, I really hope we get Randy. Love Sid and it would be super cool but Randy is the unsung hero of the first movie.

BHVR couldn't get rights to the killer so they did the next best thing and got the rights to use the mask, then make the original killer as bordeline copywrite breaking as possible.

I wish we could had her and the map but the mask wasn't owned by weinstein or wes craven since it was released in 92 prior to the movie and weinstein don't own the series anymore. Vh1 does now since they bought it from Netflix because of weinstein company losing assets and with wes craven dead now the movie series is dead unless by chance it bought out by fun world for liscensing again but that would mean like dead by daylight would only have the rights to the mask not the character itself

The filmmakers do not hold the rights to the mask, which was licensed from the company that owns it. Dead by Daylight's arrangement was with that company; notice that the Ghost Face DLC makes no mention of the Scream franchise or anything around it.

As multiple people have stated in this thread, and has been stated ad nauseam in threads since Ghostface was revealed, Behavior licensed the mask, not Scream. The mask is owned by a separate company and pre-dated Wes Craven doing Scream. The Scream movie licensed the mask for usage.
Behavior licensed the mask from the owning company, and created an original killer to wear it. They did not license anything from Scream. This was not a Scream DLC. So no survivor from the film or tv show will be coming.

I knew about the mask and DbD making their own person behind the mask. But I didn’t know it’s basically impossible to bring Sidney to the game, thank you for explaining this to me everyone. I’m disappointed but there is nothing we can do about it.

@MainSusie_Feng No worries, you're far from the first one thinking this was associated with the Scream franchise, and you most assuredly won't be the last.
This was a failure on Behavior's part for not making it abundantly clear from the start that they only licensed the mask from the people who own the mask, and did not actually license the Scream I.P. Especially when for so many people, the mask is associated with Scream now the way a hockey mask is with Friday the 13th in the horror genre.

Well the number one thing is Sydney is a trademarked character owned by Dimension Films mostly because they own the scream.
Regarding how Ghost Face actually made it to the game they only got rights to the mask which was owned by FunWorld as the creator of the mask works there so after talks with funworld rights were given to create Ghost Face in dbd but not the iconic horror character but the iconic mask behind a new character.

If there is any difficulty in getting Sidney, it might be easier to get a licence for Neve Campbell. Then you would get the likeness but not the name.
