The way the game should be
Main topics: Stealth Based game, Game changes, survivor changes (making them realistic) and killer buffs,
The idea: Stealth Based game
A scary 4v1 experience, 4 survivors vs 1 killer. A scary killer at that of course. Do we have that now? Nope not really! You aren't scared, since you have the guts to walk up to the killer for example and flashlight spam them. Don't have these people in my games but I think some do and watching those matches makes one think about the game's style.
I imagine this game as a game where survivors are supposed to be scared off the killers. Like in almost all horror movies, where they are very weak and the killers are monsters who can't be defeated (most horror villains xD)
Game changes
Changes to the game itself
- Repairing gens should take at least 10 seconds longer and the skill checks should be more difficult, depending on the rank you are at.
- The game should be darkened a bit so it genuinely becomes a bit more difficult to spot a few things and the fire barrels or generator light should be stronger and give a false sense of hope/safety.
- Flashlights should be standard equipment but shouldn't be able to blind a killer till the point of dropping a survivor but still to blind him enough to make him lose footing and walk into a pallet or a wall, this giving the survivor being held a chance. There should also be batteries scattered across the map which can only be picked up when the flashlight is empty.
- The devs could increase the needed gens to 6 potentially or just leave it as it is right now of course.
Survivor changes
- Survivor side should still repair the gens and they have to focus on actual stealth play. Hiding in lockers should be worth it and award the player extra points if that's how they cut a chase or made sure they weren't even found by the killer!
- Of course pallets would stay in the game, there would just be less of them. (imagine a map now having 20 or so and then take off 8 or even 10)
- If the survivors were to be hit by a killer, their movement speed should be considerably lowered due to them being slashed and thus having a painful wound. Their movement speed should be 90% and quick vaulting shouldn't be as smooth anymore. Iron will would of course still be a powerful perk which not a lot of survivors use nowadays.
- OBJECT OF OBSESSION stays the same, because the survivors would risk using it themselves but would benefit a lot if used right. Maybe it should have bonus bloodpoints though.
- The emblem system could still have generator emblem, survivor emblem and the chase emblem which would be renamed to stealth since chases should be avoided
Running without being in a chase should never be done!
EDIT: This is meant as in trying to be as stealthy as possible, of course you can run at your own risk.
These changes would make them weaker, thus the stealth perks the survs have should be drastically buffed. Quick and quiet for example should have a lower cooldown.
That buff would make sure the killers would also be buffed.
Killer changes
The point of this ''rework'' would be to make the killers very strong, but of course still beatable. They would be so strong that an encounter with them should be avoided at all costs and can't be negated by looping for 30 minutes if you know what I mean.
- All killer heartbeats should be reduced by around 8 meters (or more) but therefore their walking speed should be put to 105% instead of 110% since survivors would be warned later and them getting hit would reduce their movement speed as well. Them being found out later also increases the scare factor.
A lot of killer perks would be buffed, so them finding a survivor would be an actual punishment.
Ruin would need to be nerfed a bit or reworked since gen times were increased. Killers like MM and Ghostface would still have small terror radius's and/or none.
BBQ and Chilly and other aura based perks would also be changed or nerfed since aura reading perks shouldn't really be in a stealth based game.
I have thought about this quite often and even said this to a couple of streamers who didn't dislike the idea. Of course not as extensive as this but oh well.
This isn't of course everything but more would be waaaaaaaaay too much to read and props if you read the whole piece, took me a while to write and picture.

I quite like these ideas a lot maybe survivors shouldn't be 80% but 90% is very reasonable.

In reality if we force stealth based gameplay, the game will likely die; we hate going up against blendettes with urban immersion, iron will etc, for a reason.

we do?

“Running while not being in a chase should never be done”
Umm what. Just like in every horror film, not everyone is so terrified they wouldn’t dare run. This is isn’t just “horror” game but survival too. Meaning you should feel like you have to run, make bold moves if you have to. There is a feeling of adrenaline survivors should have that isn’t found in simply stealthing.
5 -
It doesnt even have to be a matter of slow survivors are forced to hide in bushes though. ATM with many pallet loops, theres 0 mindgame at all. You can clearly see over the 2 ft pile of rubbish your looping around. Compare those to instances of a typical scratched mirror myers game on Lerys where EVERY room you walk into could result in a surprise. Running in circles around garbage is...boring. Those jumpscare myers games are typically fun for everyone involved.
4 -
People say chases are the funnest part of the game so sadly stealth based gameplay would kill the game, unless put into another game mode.
9 -
As someone who plays both sides, I can tell you that holding R1 or M1 for 80 seconds isn't fun either. Both sides have boring, tedious aspects.
1 -
@Crazewtboy Never said it WAS fun. Turning your mind off cuz all you have to do is hold a button and keep an eye out for a killer you can easily spot on the other side of the map over abunch of piles of 2 ft garbage is boring. Thats why Im refering to the jumpscare myers games where you have to constantly be vigilant about every doorway around you and be ready to move at a moments notice.
2 -
I like your ideas, sounds like it would potentially bring the fear back.
1 -
I don't quite understand what your saying. Are you talking about looping? If so are you referring to killer, survivor or both?
0 -
@Crazewtboy "Looping" in general isnt boring, but on maps like Gas Heaven, where you have giant open areas you can CLEARLY see over...Its completely braindead. You can see everything a mile away, and theres no skill taking place of running in a circle. Jungle gyms can be gamed on both sides, but the 2 ft garbage piles with a pallet... Completely breaks any tension since they offer perfect view from long distance as well as just being time wasters instead of engaging play.
1 -
You can still mindgame the pallets. It still works most of the time. Does that make it less boring? It could. But will it help you put and end to it faster? Most likely.
0 -
Also this is assuming it isn't a safe loop.

this post truly written by needs git gud
survivor mains never read whole thing because of too long and hurt their eyes
second this is too unbalanced even in current state weakest wm1 killratio is half in matches, we doesn't need any easier job after egc begin with
third heres no point, heres no balance, these just makes no sense
1 -
I meant this as in "you should try to be as stealthy as possible" since running leaves tracks behind and thus making a meeting with the killer a more frequent possibility, and we wouldn't want that in stealth scenarios now would we xD
0 -
Can we stop suggesting gens be longer and instead ask for another objective?
Gens shouldn't be longer than they are, sorry but that is out of the question. A second objective would be much more engaging.
2 -
yeah we do
1 -
dude just make dbd a snoozefest to the point of killing it. it's that easy
4 -
I've never had difficulty tracking down a iron will, urban evasion claudette tbh. You can still hear breathing or the gras rustling if you listen really well
0 -
I'm sorry but any game you play for a good amount of time won't be scary.
4 -
I mean, in the end this is only a "Nerf Survivors"-Thread.
While it would be great if this game would be more scary, this is not gonna happen. Making it darker would make it harder for Killers to see. And we know that things that make it difficult for Killers are not wanted in this Forum.
Besides that, you cannot simply go with "The game should be more stealthy" with the rest of your ideas. First of all, Stealth is boring for both sides. If I play Survivor, I dont want to hide all the time. This does not mean that I want to be chased the whole game, I am terrible at chases. But at least I dont want to crouch somewhere all the time without the possibility to do anything. As Killer, I am more annoyed of Survivors who do nothing so that I cannot find them.
Furthermore, if you want to have Stealth Gameplay aka Gameplay where you have to lose the Killer, there need to be MORE Pallets and not less Pallets. Because in the end, you will need those Pallets to get Distance on the Killer. And if we would think about the fact that Looping should not be possible then (because Stealth is the Goal), it would just lead to all Pallets being wasted in like 2 minutes, which is an easy win for the Killer. If you want Stealth Gameplay and no Looping, you need more Pallets. And yes, I am pretty sure that some Killers would not think about it and would only read "More Pallets?!?!?!?1111"
And last but not least, I feel that the game goes into another direction than Stealth. Just look at the most recent content which was added. Legion - you cannot hide from the Killer Instinct. Furthermore, Iron Maiden is completely Anti-Stealth. Plague - even if you are running Iron Will, you will cough. Furthermore Infections Fright. When it comes to Ghost Face, Im All Ears works against Stealth.
So I doubt that Stealth is the direction the game is planned to develop.

This is honestly terrible.
this is just "I'll 4K every game"
Increasing gen time? Slowing survivors if they're injured when killers are already faster? Reducing pallets? increasing gens completed by 1? Flashlights standard but only blind killer? What's the point, if you get blinded, stand still, turn around and then the flashlight is worthless.
Your whole idea of "stealth" but then slowing survivors down so much they wouldn't be able to get around a corner and juke is hilarious.
I'm not usually this harsh on ideas but this is literally somebody wanting to 4K every game and make survivor suffer.
7 -
Have to agree. “Make the game more scary” here basically can be translated into “killers should get 3-4 kills in 90% of games”. I would venture to guess that a lot of people here probably think that should be reality.
This would result in 2 hour killer queues. The game is never going to become scary again once anyone puts in a small amount of time. Not to mention, a lot of people are just never going to feel fear in a game where the killer is controlled by another player. It becomes competitive, not scary, no matter what. So if the survivors are constantly on the losing end, they just won’t play that side anymore, and if they don’t like being the killer....they won’t play the game anymore.

What I am getting from this post is you don't want to play Dead By Daylight you want to play a different assym horror game no offense.
1 -
The reason this game is still surviving and has a loyal playerbase is because of looping. It makes the game very unique, and is for the majority of players much more fun than stealth. Making this a stealth based game would kill it.
0 -
If you're this bad at killer no amount of changes to pallets or balance is going to help you if you're always getting into these "1 survivor loops me the entire game" matches.
0 -
You're only counting the stuff that's bad for survivors xD Not the speed nerf to killers for example. Increasing gens isn't a must btw. And yes, I think that If I stab you, you aren't able to run at full speed
0 -
Looping is unique? I'mma just disregard you from now on if you call walking in circles almost all game long unique.
0 -
While myself and many asked for more stealth play a long time ago the devs really seem to not want to go down that route as instead of adding the requests they released more and more stealth killers instead along with not making the emblem system reward it.
The problem with stealth is right now urban evading stealth players can make for a very boring match, the devs themselves state want interactions between the players and engaging chases with mindgames. Like it or not looping has become a gameplay mechanic.
I dont think your thread is correct being titled "The way the game should be" as its just how you would like it to be. The game is what it is and the devs vision.
0 -
Title should be changed to - The way the game should be made more annoying to play
0 -
Sure.
Make the game more boring, it will certainly help.
0 -
Good job this game is based in fiction and not reality.
You clearly have no grasp on this game at all, the killer "debuffs" don't account for nearly what the survivors changes impact.
You want survivors to be slowed down by 10/20% and justify that because the killer (who is already faster than all survivors) speed is reduced by 5%? lmao.
This game will never and should never be based around stealth, lmao.
0 -
The game was scary when I played it for the first time the a few hours went by and you just get used to it. Playing stealthy is boring and pointless when there are perks that let you see survivors such as barbecue, bitter murmur, Rancor etc
0 -
Sorry, I forgot every horror game consists of looping and chasing like DBD. DBDs chasing and chasing mechanics are extremely unique. The only other game like it is Identity V, which is a copy.

As I've seen so far you guys don't enjoy stealthy but scary games. I meant this a bit like as in Outlast. When running into Chris Walker, you had to hide and u were scared and if he were to find u, you were going to run for your life and be scared and I just noticed that he also needs to hit you twice, most of the time. Not really just throw stuff at him or run in circles xD I guess it's a bit far fetched but ok
