Obsession perks for survivor and killer
Out of the 4 that are available only two of them "give the survivor advantages while putting them at risk from being the killers obsession" (I think this was said in the Halloween trailer. I'm paraphrasing. Around 2.00 where it says something about making it easier for the killer to catch th r obsession but the obsession may get benefits)
Object of obsession - you see the killer and the killer sees you. Tbh it's balanced against everyone but wraith , ghost face and pig (kinda)
Decisive strike - literally just a minute long borrowed time when you get unhooked that lets you stun the killer instead of getting an on hit speed boost. Which stacks with borrowed time - no downside
Sole survivor -it's bad but it's literally just protection from aura reading if people die. Although it was interned to counteract object's huge risk factor it has no inherit downside
Mettle of man - while it did used to be overly strong it's downside was and still is a threat to survivors looking to play stealthy while providing an upside
There could be some changes to these perks with no downside but to be honest I'd rather the obsession system be changed to something like "the killer sees the obsessions aura when within 8m" or something. But I don't really have and proper ideas so I might just list some perk changes contrary to what I just said
D.S - as a downside to being the obsession ma's it so that once you use d.s your broken for 30-120 seconds idk. And make it so non obsessions have to wiggle to 35% or have to get a safe book to be able to activate the perk idk
Sole survivor - the obsession with this perk has a 15%/25% slower heal speed but they start with a 10m aura reading protection (bbq and chilli would only detect you if you were more than 50m away if you dont get what I mean)
On the killer side of things the obsession perks are kinda handled a bit better but there's exceptions. For these ill be going into why they do or don't fit the concept I think the devs intend for It he obsession mechanic....kinda I'm sorry if I sound out of touch
S.t.b.f.l - encourages you not to go after the obsession which increases the obsession's chances of survival...ish - fine fits the concept well
P.w.y.f - encourages you to lose the obsession to give you advantages simular to s.t.b.f.l - fine but the perk needs some quality of life changes
Dying light - encourages you to tunnel the obsession but gives the obsession an altruism speed boost - fine in terms of fitting the concept because it could help others to help the obsession survive but it's a bad perk design due to how much it encourages tunnelling and brining a mori
Remember me - simular to dying light it encourages tunnelling but does provide a benefit to the obsession if they manage to say alive - opening the exit gates faster
Rancor - obsession gets a better bitter murmer and killer gets the noise bubble version of bitter murmer. And the exposed and mori thing at the end of the game do provide a threat to The obsession so it's fine
Furtive chase - literally just uses to obsession mechanic to mark unhookers and synergies well with make your choice. While the benefit to the killer is minor if not running make your choice and it does encourage you to not tunnel it doesn't actually provide a benefit to the obsession. - not fine
Dark devotion - hit obsession and transfer terror radius for 30 seconds - neiche and could be useful but it provides a small benefit to the killer while giving no benefit to the obsession - not fine
What I'd change those bottom two that are classed as not fine (in terms of fitting the obsession concept I think the devs were going for)
Furtive chase : make it not an obsession perk but instead but black claws around the survivor that did the unhooking and just have 1/2 of your tokens vanish when a survivor dies.
Or
Keep the obsession part and make it to so the obsession gets a miniature we'll make it (25 or 65%) for around 5-10 seconds but they suffer from exposed for 15-20 seconds when they unhook - a benefit and a draw back to being the obsession. Idk really about this idea as its just a mashup of a survivor perk and a killer perk...but then again that's just making it into a completely different perk ...and maybe change the obsession to the person that has been unhooked after 16 seconds (linking that to the exposed status effects could cause bugs)
Dark devotion - to the obsession your terror radius is 4/8/12 m larger but when you hit them you still transfer the terror radius for 60 seconds until you hit another survivor with a cool down of 30 seconds.
Is this a good concept or have I just misunderstood the obsession idea and am just listing off changes to 4 obsession perks?

The big problem with obsession perks is that being the obsession is often not a drawback at all but an advantage. Survivor obsession perk have powerfull effect with very little actual to no drawback and killer obsession perks are not threathening enough or downright poorly designed.
Decivise Strike is very impactfull and make you the obsession when you use it. But being the obsession by itself has no effect.
Mettle of Man is not designated as an obsession perk, yet increase your chance to be the obsession ? Also the drawback is meaningless compared to how powerfull the ability to ignore a hit is. Thankfully its been nerfed.
Object of Obsession has kind of the right idea. You can see the killer but he can also see you. However the perk complelty screw stealth killer but can also hose trap killer and make mindgames around walls impossible. The value of seeing the killer is much higher for the survivors than the other way around.
Sole Survivor. Nobody use that thing. Its not very usefull and has an obsession perk, has no actual innate drawback.
And thats it for survivors obsession perks ? Really ? So few ? And Mettle of Man does not even really count.
On the killer side its not much better.
Dark devotion is just to damn awkward to use and does not last long enough. Its not worth using. If it triggered when you initiate a chase with your obsession it could be half decent.
Dying Light reward the killer massively for tunneling the obsession. Its effective but not very fun for the survivor player. They get an altruism boost that does not do anything if you just tunnel them. Also now that some perks can make the obsession change during a game it can be completly invalidated. Lots of problems with this one.
Furtive Chase is quite possibly the dumbest perk ever designed. The stacks are very tedious to get for a completly worthless benefit. Reducing the killer's TR in chase is useless. The "synergy" with Make Your Choice is also not worth it. You pay a full perk slot for the ability to tag the unhooker ? Its just crap. Also it does not actully affect the obsession in any way. It should not be an obsession perk to begin with.
Play With Your Food, is only good for 1 specific gimmick build with Myers where you don't expend the stacks. In every other cases its too much effort for too little benefit. The time you waste gaining the stacks is not worth the small, temporary speed boost.
Rancor is just a worse Bitter Murmur (wich is allready not that great itself) with a mini NOED attached to hit. And it announce to the obsession that you have it. It does very little for you in game and just encourage the obsession to leave the trial asap when the gates are powered. The only reason killers use this is for dailys that require you to kill a survivor with your own hand and they don't have a mori available.
Remember Me, is actually half decent, but barely. Once again it does nothing for you during the game, only at the end. I guess the drawback is that since the obsession is not affected by the gate opening penalty, you really want to kill them before the gates are powered ? But its just too niche.
Save the Best for Last, is possibly the best killer obsession perk, because the condition to gain stacks is to hit anybody but your obsession, wich is considerably easier than having to single out a specific survivor. It actually turn being the obsession into an advantage, since the killer will tend to ignore you. But all your teammates are going to suffer for it.
So its just a huge mess. Some obsession perks are good, some are bad some are stupid and some have actually very little to do with the obsession. The whole concept could use a revamp.
