How can I improve as survivor in general
Hello. I just got the game recently, but I am the worst when it comes to survivors. I was recently using a flashlight trying to flash the killer, but I did a horrible job and got killed due to that. When someone asked of I was just trying to be annoying with the flashlight, I just told him no and I was new. He then proceeded to tell em that I'm a bad survivor and I was useless. I was about to tell him off, but I couldn't due to my family watching. How do I improve as survivor so people won't get angry at me for being new at the game? I only got the game yesterday to let you all know.

Dead by daylight is mainly practice like so many things. You will grow with experience.
There are many things to learn in this game, and most of them are done by just playing it or watching youtube/streams.
- Learn the Maps. Play them, explore them. Here is an Overview: https://deadbydaylight.gamepedia.com/Realms
- Learn the Tiles. Learn how to loop. Those are the Jungle Gyms in the World that you can loop as a survivor. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6QYjInzLeM
- Learn the Killers. Play them, play vs them, watch videos.

There is lots of things you can do to become a better player, although some just come over time and with a lot of practice. The things that you should try to memorize are map layouts (what spawn where) and what all the perks/killers do. This will help you get a better understanding of how to play each game. There is also other smaller things you can do to increase your chances of survival such as:
Not blinding at pallets: A good killer will just use their ears and they will still be able to find you. Flashlights should be used for saves only.
Learning to loop/juke: There is plenty of tutorials on how to do both of these things on YouTube. Looping is going to be the main way to extend/survive chases and buy time for your team. Juking you will use as a last resort when you know you won't make it to a pallet and could be screwed regardless.
Staying on the generators: The sound of the heartbeat is nothing to be afraid of. Too many people run at the faintest sound of it when they should be working on the gens. Despite what the game may tell you, use the terror radius as a warning, but use your eyes to look for the killer and know when to get off the gen. If you aren't good at running you should leave a bit early, but if you are confident in your skills to run the killer around, you can wait until the last possible second.
Hitting great skill checks: This is something else that will come with time, but you should still try to improve it whenever you get the chance. Just hitting the skill checks doesn't really cut it anymore (since everyone brings ruin) and hitting great skill checks will allow you to complete generators faster. The best way to do this is to listen for the audio cue and then focus on the center of your screen. Your reflexes should do the rest. This tip might not seem important now, but when the rest of your team is running around like chickens with their heads cut off looking for a hex, you will be powering through the gens.
