Why you should run spine chill

GrootDude
GrootDude Member Posts: 14,110

In this thread I will be telling you why you should run spine chill.

1-Counters stealth killers and prayer beads bracelet.

2- Spine chill let’s you know if spirit is looking at you while she is phasing giving you time to double back and consistently change your direction allowing you to confuse spirit, also let’s you know if Nurse is blinking to you or billy chainsawing towards you.

3-Allows you to silently get away whenever the killer is coming which will waste their time and if they find you you can give chase.

4-Gives you a heads up that the killer has Nurses or BBQ.

Forgot to mention it helps a lot against huntress too

Can confirm Spine Chill is great. I'm using it in my build right now.

A few weeks ago I was playing survivor and got pulled off a gen by Ghost Face. I said to myself "That's it! I'm gettin me Spine Chill" and I haven't looked back since.

Spine Chill is arguably (alongside Bond) the best survivor perk in the game. Its utility is not immediately clear and it takes some learning to leverage effectively, but I would never play without it.

Or you just be confident enough to face 1v1 situations and have some awareness of what could happen around you during a match.

For experienced players not a huge benefit.

Anyone that thinks a killer is to strong should be using this.

Awareness doesn’t help against an invisible lady.

You mean prayer beads spirit? Yeah nah, not gonna waste a whole perk slot to counter a stupid designed addon which occurs very rare. I will just take the L for that singe match and move on to 99 other matches having fun with other and more fun perks.

also if you are opening the gate and the killer is running towards you, you can open it faster, same with totems

Honestly, it just sounds like you fail to utilize it.

Once you play long enough and know how people think and killers think it's not that useful. Even with stealth killers you can figure out where they are by paying attention to the game. Spirit beads are the only thing I would say spine chill is amazing for even for experienced survivors

  • GrootDude
    GrootDude Member Posts: 14,110

It helps against her in chase too

If you read my post then it tells you how to effectively use it against Spirit. Even for experienced survivors.

I play video games most of my days and still say Spine chill is the best survivor perk.

  • Scal3r
    Scal3r Member Posts: 188

I'm not saying it's bad but I am saying that for some of us who have put many hours into the game and knows how it works then you can use other perks that have more value than information that can already be figured out by being aware of the game and how people play

Spine Chill started to become overrated, seriously. Everything you listed beside countering Anal Beads Spirit can be done with some awareness. And Anal Beads is a stupid add-on that needs a nerf/rework. Also, you can counter Spine Chill by not looking in the survivors directions. I know Spirit mains who literally never looked directly at the gens while phasing when using Anal Beads, so they can counter Spine Chill just in case. They actually grabbed people using Spine Chill with that strat.

@Marcus @Scal3r I get that, but Spine Chill can do the heavy lifting for the 99% of players who have not reached that level of game sense and/or are not high enough rank to consistently encounter stuff like moonphasing Spirit.

I watch streamers all the time who have a seemingly robotic predictive sense for where a survivor or a killer went, and I definitely haven't figured out how to replicate it. But boy, does Spine Chill ever help close the gap.

I agree I used spine chill for a very long time and I have friends who still use it and love it. It is a very useful crutch perk that can help people who do not have time to play this game as much significantly in surviving

I have played this game a lot and I still use Spine Chill... why? Because I can and because I can tell a killer is coming before they even saw me and I can stealth away.

I normally use it when im trying to go for the 15% vault speed but in general i love spinechill one of the most underrated perks tbh

Can confirm. Switched it out instead of SC. Never going back.

Spine chill has its uses for sure. I just prefer perks that help me more and I also want to be chased.

It is so useful, I now play most survivor games without it. Counters basically any killer but Myers, and helps both stealth and runner players equally. It helps counter Nurses and spirits, helps you know when the killer is trying to mindgame, and also gives you a boost in action speed, allowing you to crutch finish generator repairs and even opening exit gates. It also let's you know if killer spawns next to you (like I have alot) and know who the killer is going for. Also helps you know when killer gives up on you to get to objectives faster.

You overracting that 99%, you really think that you need such a high skill cap to be aware of your surroundings so you can counter stealth killers and not be stupid enough to fall for Spirit's standing still mind game ?

  • GrootDude
    GrootDude Member Posts: 14,110

You underestimate spine chill if you think it is only useful for her standing still mindgame.

    Rydog Member Posts: 3,275

If you are literally across the map from the killer and have no visual on them, you have no way of knowing where they are or what they're doing. Spine Chill helps with this.

i used it for a while and it definitively made stealth SO much easier, i dont use it no more because i dont feel like it but i 100% recommend it

    Marcus Member Posts: 2,047

Spine Chill is only worth against Spirit in combination with Iron Will. But even then, it can be countered by a Spirit, as I said above.

If the killer is across the map, Spine Chill doesn't activate, because his range isn't that long. For that, you have Object. Also, if you don't have line of sight of the killer, it means you repair a gen in a very safe building or jungle gym, so you can loop him anyway if it comes at you.

Yes, I know. But it tells you when he's inbound to your position.

Strong perk especially in this meta, not mandatory tho. Calling spine chill as A tier since months ago.

  • NMCKE
    NMCKE Member Posts: 8,243

@Masantonio has been convincing me to take it, but I'm still hesitant because I don't know if it's really better than my current perk build. The perk isn't the problem, it's just that other perks outclasses Spine Chill in many ways.

  • Usui
    Usui Member Posts: 531

While I agree spine chill is underrated, it's also not necessary especially at high level play. Most spirits all go for the same routine thinking you'll window or pallet, if yous top running and giving them scratch marks you'll get away pretty easily. On top of that, prayer beads are aids yeah but also easy to avoid if you know where she is in the first place.

  • GrootDude
    GrootDude Member Posts: 14,110

It is the best survivor perk imo, you should definitely try it. :)

A lot of people in here are talking as if they play with a minimap hacked into their HUD, like "spine chill is useless bro, just know where the killer is at all times, even if they're stealth-based or have a small TR + M&A".

You know they're the type to DC when they get yoinked by a ghostface, call it Bullsh*t, and make an angry tik tok post (is post the right word? I actually don't know)

  • Usui
    Usui Member Posts: 531

Uhh, you don't need SC to avoid getting grabbed by a myers or a ghostface. Just pay attention to your surroundings. It's not hard.

Spine chill literally notifies you if the killer is coming your way, no matter what killer(except T1 myres), you always have a one up on the killer

  • Johnble
    Johnble Member Posts: 175

I use it quite a bit but I usually play solo so it helps out. Especially on my Meg build. Let's me know where to go after an unhook/heal situation and usually if I put it with Lightweight, I only get seen if I'm playing like a potato. I am getting better at just looking around now though so it's not something I use every match any longer.

I don't like spine chill because it's a waste of a perk slot here is why.

    1. If there is a stealth killer i can use my eyes to see. and ears to hear grass moving etc.

    2. If billy is sprinting to your location you probably would of heard it. and if you don't know if the nurse is blinking to you just get out of his/her sight.

    3. If they have BBQ i can hear their heartbeat.

    Or pay close attention

    I don't like bond either.

Knowing where people are doesn't really help me.

That's why i use perks so i can do certain actions without need for other players.
