The second iteration of 2v8 is now LIVE - find out more information here: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/kb/articles/480-2v8-developer-update

Would this game be even as half alive as it is rn if it wasn't for licensed dlc's?

One part of me wants to say yes, but then I remember I came here for Myers and stayed for Pig. Anyway, what do you guys think?

Honestly it's about 50/50 I dont seen many licensed killers, but usually when I do I see them all day for the most part. I think orginal content is better, but I do like my Pig xD

The licenses help but I feel like the most important thing about DbD's success is that no rival as risen to fight it. There's no competition.

That's because they all had a certain issue.

    1. F13 has lawsuit issues and a severe lack of balance, even worse than dbd from what I've heard
    2. Sould at stake was a joke
    3. Devs of last year didn't bother releasing the game on steam
    4. Deathgarden was never properly advertised, which is why it's now sitting at <300 players.

I'm not sure of that. I think licenses helped a ton bringing people to the game, without them it would have probably remained a niche game considering its genre.

Halloween License brought me to the game. The friends that i made and play with keep me playing not the content.

This game would not have been nearly as successful as it is now without licensed content. Not even close IMO.

I came for Myers. Strangely enough all I play on killer side is mostly licensed killers. Myers, Freddy, Ghostface etc. What can I say...I'm a 90's kid who likes his horror icons.

I played this game not even knowing there were licensed characters. I dont care whether or not there are licensed characters, but i will say Myers' has the best gameplay when going against him.

In all honesty cosmetic and lore wise I tend to favor the original killers. The movie killers tend to break what other wise could be a more engaging lovercraftian tell for me. Honestly I just kinda see the killers with famous movie killers as more psychological manifestations materialized by the entity as a product of the people taken thanks to the movie killers as are the movie survivors.

license killers bring many people into the game , just watch dbd killers trailers views on stranger things / ghostface / but sadly their powers are pretty simple and they are no high tier .

There have actually been several attempts at this point, but none of them have held up against DBD

Nurse and Spirit arent licensed, so the game will always call me back after balance updates, licensed killers doesnt really call my attention.

Because they've been ######### games. And then you leer over at DbD itself and see a convoluted mess of spaghetti.. I mean, it takes effort to make a game that bad.

I joined a little bit after Spirit came out, so I’m not an og but once I saw that daddy Myers and big boy Ash were in the game I quickly grabbed my wallet. So I’ll give dbd props since they got my money

I would say they made sure Dead by Daylight got even more famous to people who aren't even playing video games at the start but got into it because of the characters they are familiar with.

I think the licenses create a surge of interest from people who might not give the game a chance otherwise. But if the game itself were a complete wreck, those players wouldn't stay for very long.

Friday the 13th had a huge launch because of the license, but it flatlined very quickly, because the devs dragged their feet on patching exploits and severe gameplay issues. Just look at Steamcharts to see what a mess F13 turned into, very quickly after launch.

F13's franchise litigation issues weren't a blip on the radar when this was occurring, but they wound up providing a convenient scapegoat. The reality is that the developers completely dropped the ball on basic game maintenance, which the ongoing franchise ownership lawsuit had no bearing on.
