The clowns story is wasted

There's really no point to this discussion other than getting it off my chest but I feel like the essence of having an evil clown in the game is wasted. When I think of murderous clowns it's usually more of the supernatural variety (IT being the biggest example) and having some kinda terrifying monstrous power and a maniacal laugh. But in dbd we're given a very grounded, somewhat generic serial killer backstory for the clown. His power of purple knock out gas, while fitting with his story, doesn't really fit with him being a clown. I guess I just feel like the clown has a lot of missed potential

I have to point out that there was an actual killer clown in real life. I think the Clown is inspired by that twisted serial killer. While he didn't collect trophies, he still was a menace while still alive. I think that makes it hit closer to home than most killers.

This. Clown is largely based on John Wayne Gacy, who dressed up as Pogo the Clown as he kidnapped, tortured, violated, and murdered over thirty teenage boys and hid them in his basement.

Now look at our Clown. He dressed up as a clown, kidnapped people, tortured them mentally. physically, and I'd imagine sexually, then killed them and disposed of their corpses.

I actually didn't know that, and I'll admit it gives me a little more respect for their choice in backstory style. Thanks for the new perspective

I think the bio is alright, but I agree that his power is pretty underwhelming for a killer clown. The least they could have done is make the gas have different colors to seem clownlike, or played some interesting music while you hallucinate. Instead the power seems like it belongs to a completely different kind of killer.

I actually think the Clown has the best backstory.

His backstory is great, It just feels disconnected from the clown persona to me. Like the wraith being an invisible demon just because he crushed a mob boss that was using him, or the trapper wearing a screwed up mask and bear trapping people, because he ran his daddy's estate with an iron fist and blew everyone up in a mine.

Now that I think about it, I think the trapper being the serial killer that collects finger trophies would be pretty cool
