SWF Balance <3 Kind of-Thanks :)
So BHVR is FINALLY making SWF pair all Survivors according to the highest Rank, so I Rank 16 Killer will never face a Rank 4 because they paired with a Rank 16 and 20.
Now they just have to find out what's causing Rank 8's and 1's to appear in my lobbies lol
I am so happy about this <3 I have never been against SWF, I am ok with friends being a team, even if they're getting the unbalanced advantage of comms that completely puts the game into their favor. But having high ranks in their team and going against a low rank has always been worse, it was never fair for a Rank 4 to go against a poor 20 so I am eccstatic we won't have to deal with this anymore <3
Thank you BHVR for finally doing this, I and hopefully others are very grateful.

Gotta love punishing people for playing with friends. It's really not an issue because this is just an incentive now to stay at a low rank compared to before.
13 -
Gotta love punishing killers for no reason except luck
34 -
Unfortunately, there are too many toxic SWF groups who aren't just playing with their buddy from work.
32 -
I sense backlash...
Maybe the high rank queues will get better now that high rank survivors can't bully low rank killers.
22 -
And that also means more people from Stranger Things will be coming back! More players=different tactics. It’s also more players=shorter wait times

Blah. I'm sure their will be a highly upvoted post on the subreddit about how they're not totally not a toxic SWF survivor who bullied low rank killers and how this change is unfair to them!
Just like when the devs hid the killer loadout until all survivors were dead or escpaed. A thread popped up with thousands of 'solo' survivors claiming how they weren't toxic SWF survivors and saw the change as unfair. How they HAD to see the loadout before the match was finished for... reasons.
22 -
To be fair it's not a punishment but a logical change.
Killers didn't have a choice when matched with high ranks who were in an SWF but now those that play SWF do and if they chose to play with high ranked friends at least they know what they will face.
8 -
Needless to say this change made me pretty happy. :)
16 -
They are actually doing it?! Oh my! Happy days!! 🐷💖
7 -
This was my actual face reading this post lol 🐖

Mine too, I was legit taken aback from it and yelled scaring my family 😅

Being happy cause SWF are being nerfed into ground? Whats now the purpose of playing SWF-Squads while having a high rank player with you who ######### up all other survivors? Taking highest rank is the same dumb ######### as saying the lowest rank should count. Thats one of those changes that will backfire really quickly cause peoplle cant play together anymore, cause theyre srewed up by their own teammates. Getting punished for playing together. Pretty good job so far.

You're saying that low rank Survivors will get thrashed by high rank Killers and yes that is bad. But it was also bad that low rank Killers got thrashed by high rank Survivors, this won't be balance but it addresses the issue that was really hurting the player base. SWF is still good and low ranks can play with high ranks and they will still be carried by their high rank friends, nothing changes except low rank players will need to get good like they always need to.
9 -
@MegsAreEvil Right. So only the low-level killer players should get punished for them deciding to play together with such a wide rank gap?
Oh, I see.
This change was needed ages ago.
Be glad they don't do what every other game with a Rank Ladder does and implement a rank-range cap on who can play in a team together. Too large a rank gap and no teaming.
11 -
Rank 1 survivor. I usually play with swf in red to purple. Have one friend relatively new in yellow. Bring me rank 1 killers all day every day as long as queue times aren't outrageous.
3 -
When you think being paired with a killer of your rank is a punishment....
14 -
I'm glad at least 1 Survivor player is happy about this, I was worried this would only be a Killer victory.
3 -
Unfortunately there are people that abuse the system to get easier games by either inviting lower rank players or down ranking to bully. Unfortunately the community has done this to themselves and I'm sorry but this will improve the health of the game overall.
You must truly must look at the bigger picture and the happiness is due to the frustration of a rank 11 that's vrsed plenty a team of 3 rank 2 players with a swf buddy that's a 12.. So forgive my over joy that I no longer have to deal with that anymore.

Wow all those double standards. Ridiculous.

I just don't understand the problem to be honest, what is the real problem with this? I was a Rank 13 Survivor today and played with a all Rank 7's and the Killer was a Rank 7, I didn't have any problems, it was an awesome game and I was playing a level 5 David with only Dead Hard and WGLF. This example is what we'll see in the future and the only real problem is that low ranks have to face high ranks if they team up with high ranks.
Why is it ok to have High rank Survivors, a possibility of 4 High rank Survivors with only 1 low rank face a low rank Killer? How is that ok? The Killer is outnumbered by players with too much skill, while on the Survivor side with the update it is still 1 v 4 so that low rank Survivor does not have a high chance of running into that Killer because the other 3 should be distracting that 1 Killer.
This update is about being fair and since this is an asymmetrical game a fair balance is a grey area that benefits mostly everyone in some way.
The only benefit for high rank Survivors to face low rank Killers is to bully that Killer to help their friend, that's toxic and hurts the community. That Killer is a person, a human being and they deserve the same respect as your friend.
You can help your friend but who will help the Killer against you?

Balancing after highest levels/ranks is nothing bhvr has invented nor is it uncommon in multiplayer games.
I appreciated the changes. As I had started with dbd, I had played in high ranks as killer until I decided to stay at low ranks after a rank reset.
My reason for it was mostly because I had nothing worthy anymore see in staying at the red ranks. Even the "challenge" argument had not matter anymore since you had face red ranks on rank 15.
When I now like to get a challenge, I need to rank up first. With other words, finally a reason to do it :). Would the devs now finally give me a reason to play the game again, I would directly start to push some ranks up^^.

This change is a "punishment," a "nerfed into the ground", and "double standards" towards SWF?
My one SWF friend(who probably doesn't even have 50 hours yet) and I are thrilled with this change. He gets more experienced Killers to improve upon and we both get less rank 20 baby Dwight's hiding in lockers.
This is a fantastic and long awaited change. The entitlement sure is strong for people who, "just want to play with their friends."
9 -
Yay:D thank you devs:)

The reasoning behind this may be more pragmatic than we think. My killer queues have been 6+ minutes since the DLC dropped, which is quite frankly unacceptable any way you slice it, new DLC or not. It may be intended as a partial balancing mechanism, but maybe moreso to push more survivors into the higher rank matchmaking pool.
1 -
Now all high rank friends will try to derank to their lower rank friends ;)
2 -
I don't think new players will come back. Those players aren't going to keep up with what's happening, check the patch notes etc.
Most of those who had a disappointing experience are gone for good.
3 -
I really hope this is not the case but I agree fully it's really sad tbh it was such a good opportunity to grow the community.
I know I tried my hardest to be as friendly and helpful towards unfortunately the new people I was matchmakes with.. Hopefully others did the same.
But yeah they dropped the ball on this 🐷
2 -
@Darkskies I don't think I'm wrong with my assumption. It's super sad to see. I would have loved to see the community grow. It was such an amazing chance.
BHVR's marketing was able to do such a great license deal and the devs surely did put a lot of work into the DLC. And then they ignore matchmaking problems for too long and now all that prior work...
Well, we will see in a couple of weeks what the steamcharts are going to say about the player numbers when there is no event.
1 -
Yes, it is. It was an amazing chance for community growth and I would have loved to see this game getting a lot more new players.
0 -
Yeah. Screw the killer's. As long as you getting easy pips running a train on low ranks right? Who cares about killers. As long as survivors have a chance right?
*eye roll to the deepest crevices of my sockets*

You're right and it hurts ;-;

In the patch notes they mentioned after putting the SWF group according to highest rank they mentioned that previously it was catered towards the average rank in the group, so I think it rounded off.
If they had just done this tiny little matchmaking thing with the SWF earlier then this would never have been a problem. If all it was was a value change with the system of picking the rank of the Killer than why did it take so long?
The Beginner's contest guide and the Survivor perks were all pointed towards the new players coming with the DLC, it was obvious and super healthy but they are always looking towards the future and can't keep their feet grounded enough in the present to solve the issues the future of the game will always have. BHVR needs to slow down.
2 -
@HatCreature Another issue was that the matchmaking simply was buggy. Perkless rank 20s getting matched with red and purple ranks was not caused by the normal SWF matchmaking.
The devs would have needed to make fixing the matchmaking #1 priority. That new players had to deal with this even over the weekend was a big mistake.

I’m personally indifferent to the changes being made to SWF. Someone was always going to take the fall either way since its very existence is a thing. The way I see it is that they’re making it less luck based for killers which I’m fine with to be honest.
It is a shame though that my friends aren’t really taking it too well since they don’t put nearly as much time into the game as me and never really get a chance to reach green ranks on a regular basis never mind purple or red... that coupled with the fact that they aren’t great players to begin with has been a bit of a turnoff for them from what I can tell. I’m sure if they do leave that I’ll find other people to team with be it here or in game, but it does suck that they are taking it as badly as they are.
Edit: words (gotta love autocorrect...)

Yes but now we need them to fix the solo ranks....when we play solo and all the ranks are miss matched, that needs to be sorted next. But we will have to see what happens.

I'm excited/curious to see how this will work out. When I see all these whiny survivor posts all I really hear is:
1 -
High rank survivors - low rank killers: "It's completey ok"
Low rank survivors - high rank killers: "BOo hOo, hOW cAn I PLaY wiTH my friEND aNYmore ?"

Yeah, I always play with my friends all day and we can still laugh and enjoy the game a lot despite winning or losing <3

i am getting my high and low ranks mixed up lol well since i am rank six and i at times play with those in red, i will be paired to the red ranks and Mushwin will be destroyed lol

No matter the MM problems the new players will definitly stay or come back. It has always been like that. Only players who don't like this game in general won't come back and those are a minority.

You dont understand, that changing the side of whos at disadvantage is a really bad idea? And that its much worse that the side with those who wanna play together to have fun, cause thats why people tend to play SWF and not cause they wanna tryhard or bully, is at a disadvantage? Your example isnt that whats difficult to deals with and its not what is mostly common in SWF. Now what about those streamers who do community matches? Thyre mostlikely higher ranked than their community and now their community gets screwed up cause of one player in a Squad game? Thats an overly stupid design. Also think about what games will happen. Now all those fun teams willg et stomped by OP nurses, spirits and billys. Playing redranks already is enough of unfun to face those OP killers on regular basis, now you really wanna give them more chance to bully lowrank survivor? Great idea! NOT.
Balacing around extremes in a team match is the most stupid design, cause theres allways one side at heavy disadvantage. The change now is just switching sides, and cause of most players are survivors it will backfire pretty hard, cause noone wanna to play anymore in SWF, so that this mode will just be a equal-level-mode with i say just 1/3of the player base than before. killing the game more this way is for sure.

"And that its much worse that the side with those who wanna play together to have fun, cause thats why people tend to play SWF and not cause they wanna tryhard or bully, is at a disadvantage?"
So it's okay for the Killer to be punished in something completely in the hands of Survivors because Survivors have the numbers advantage? That hardly seems remotely fair.

@Peanits and BHVR team for this great change this is a step in the right direction toward the game balance.
Now you can focus the rank system to make it more incentive/rewarding. SwF now need a proper balance in-game (from maps to perks). Killers need heavy change too with nurse change coming probably with the mid-chapter patch, Who know if she will still be able to beat SwF after it.
However killers like Clown/Legion/Wraith/Trapper/Plague/Myers could take changes/buffs.

I'm happy about the change. Had one too many matches where a group of higher rank players babysit their rank 20 friend against a rank 20 killer. Unfortunately I don't have the whole exchange screenshotted. The screenshot is from 2 days ago and I think it speaks for itself. I'll be eagerly waiting for that patch.

In my opinion matchmaking shouldnt be based on rank at all. Instead it should be based on hours spent playing. We have all heard that rank means nothing. Especially during rank reset. Its nothing to be able to get to green ranks. And really a couple of lucky games and you are at purple. But a green rank with 700 hours is most likely going to be better than a purple rank with 250 hours.
Sure there would be outliers but i think the match making would be better evened out.
As for rank, make incentives to rank up.
Ending the stetch at yellow ranks gives you 5000 bp, with 100 bp given for every day you are at yellow ranks
Green would get 10k bp and 200bp for every day at green.
Purple would give 1000 shards and 100 for every day at purple.
Red would get 100 cells at the end plus 10 for every day they were at red ranks.
These are just numbers off the top of my head. Obviously the game rewards those who play more and why shouldnt it?

Good luck with that... Match making has been broken for months, and not just in SWF, I've posted numerous screenshots both as killer and survivor, and there are specific scheduals where the player data base has to put you in the first available lobby cause there ain't people of your rank playing at the moment.

As for mew matchmaking, i got matched with a rank 1 and 2 rank 4s against a rank 12 spirit. I was rank 12 as well. We got zero gens completed and everyone died rather quickly. Not sure if they were trying to de rank but they had med kits and toolboxes. I got out cause of lucky hatch spawn. Pretty sure spirit wasnt a new or usual green ranked killer.
