The new matchmaking calls for a new game mode

I have a very small group of friends who casually play this game. They are potatoes. If they go beyond rank 15, it's a celebration. Then there's me. I'm also a potato, but play the game often enough to know the different knicks and knacks. I reach red ranks quickly.

Nedless to say, the new matchmaking makes SWF a no-go zone for us.

Before you jump your guns, I'm not saying the new match-making is bad. In fact, It's a much needed change. However, it also leaves me in a pickle. As I see it, I can either stop playing with my friends or systematically derank until I reach a rank that is playable for my fellow potatoes.

I'm considering going on a derank-spree, suiciding on first hook for a number of games until I reach at least green ranks. This is, however, not an idea I'm fond of as it leaves other survivors in a ######### situation.

I'm thinking a rank-free game mode would solve this situation long-term. What do you guys think? If you have another possible solution (long-term or short-term), please let me know.

Edit: @DocOctober suggested the following which could be another alternative:

"What could be done is open the new KYF to everyone, allowing you to choose between a private or a mixed/random KYF lobby."

    @DocOctober I don't think that's the same thing.

Nonetheless, we don't fill a KYF-lobby so it doesn't solve my problem.

    You don't need to fill a KYF-lobby.

@DocOctober I see what you're saying, but I'm not talking about minimum requirements. A 2v1 is not the same thing as a 4v1.

This may be a good option for you. But for me it doesn't scratch the DBD itch.

I'd be all for an unranked mode. All bets are off, never know what the next match might look like. I would attach some rewards to ranked mode, like extra shards or BP. Maybe even like a ticket to one free cosmetic item for those who end the "season" (rank reset)at red ranks so there's at least some reason to bother with all that.

@Xboned That's my thinking as well. You go in blind, each game a new possibility.

I would love an unranked mode to test different builds on the killer side as well.

    Yes yes yes!

When I first started this game Dec 2018 I was shocked that there isn't a 'quick play' or 'casual' mode. Of course my friends were much higher rank then me and I felt bad for dragging them down... This game is not new player friendly sadly.

Rank needs to be reserved for serious play and reward players for reaching certain ranks. It would also be nice if DCs were severely punished in rank.

Casual mode would be same as now. No extra rewards, but also no pressure.

That way friend groups can play with their 'potato' friends in casual mode until they are feel confident in the game and can move onto Rank :)

Quick Play was a feature that was removed because no one used it.

KYF with Bloodpoints won't be thing due to abusers likely using it to farm Bloodpoints, then going into ranked games.

What could be done is open the new KYF to everyone, allowing you to choose between a private or a mixed/random KYF lobby.

Why don't your friends learn how to play better?

    @DocOctober That's a good idea! Kind of like a private/public lobby.

This...is actually an interesting idea. If you choose KYF, you could choose to either start up your own room, choose someone else's room to join, or maybe even queue into a room at random among rooms that open up the option.

My only question is how you handle the whole "players have unrestricted access to everything minus DLC they have not purchased" thing that KYF normally has. Would it be okay for that to continue being the case, or would they have to cut back on that in some respect?

@ToastfaceKilla They only play casually, maybe five or six times a month or so. They are getting better, but it's just a very slow process.

Why not? They don't gain any of that for their own characters in ranked trials and DLC content can already be disabled.

@TAG They could add it as an customizable option...maybe?

I guess it's just the concern that some people would prefer to just play that instead for the simple reason of zero grinding being necessary to unlock anything or something. Idk it's necessarily an issue, though. Just a thought I had.

Its a good idea for KYF ^^ It would save a lot of time looking for people on FB groups to join us for a full lobby.

Still, new people need a way to play the game and get blood points to progress their characters without be shoehorned into rank matches.

It's a shame they removed that feature :(

@jthm0138 That would mean I need to browse to steam/discord before playing, then find two people that wants to play with us as well as adding them to my friend list. I'm gonna be honest with you and say it's not ideal in terms of smooth gameplay (for me). Sorry for being such a pessimist.

It's not the end of the world if it doesn't sort itself. We'll find a new game to play in no time!

What about two online matchmaking systems, in addition to KYF/Custom?

Casual: where the SWF lobby is based on party average - heavily reduced BP and no pipping, but everyone's perks they have unlocked are rank 3.

Ranked: where the SWF lobby is based on the highest rank - regular play

You think that people won't tryhard in a casual unranked mode? Your faith in humanity is stronger than mine.

@Mr_K Who me? I don't think there will be a difference in terms of tryharding. But the skill will vary!
