What the hell happened to spirit?
Not gameplay-wise, but community wise
Spirit used to be one of the most beloved killers in the game, why does so many people all of a sudden start asking to get her nerfed to the ground?
The only "problem" i find she has is that filthy prayer beads add-on which is extremely annoying to go against, but otherwise she seems like a pretty balance high skill killer.

New people, different takes with their experience with her I suppose. Most of what I've seen is about Prayer Beads and the concept of how hard it is to know if she's mind-gaming or not because of the passive phasing she does at loops.
At least, that's all I've seen to why some people hate her.

She is pretty strong by default, but she has no animation for vaulting... An unnecessary feature for such a good killer.
Plus that prayer beads add-on,well it is just broke af. I'm ok with spirit=mindgames but people need to hear when she's phasing, or we have no way to counter her

She can be countered. Maybe try and watch her to see how the Spirit you are going up against wins chases?
And not truly knowing when she's phasing is part of how she deals with red ranks.
I am not for a vaulting animation for Spirit, nor removing prayer beads. Prayer beads is what helped me get that gen grab trophy and it can be easy at times to predict when she's phasing. Or at least protect yourself during the times a good Spirit w/beads would WANT to phase.

I think it's because people have learned how to play her, and now that there are players around who are super good at Spirit, all the most powerful and unfun aspects of her gameplay have come to the fore. Even players who have been playing for a long time before and after her release, such as myself, have found playing against her much worse and more frustrating in recent months, where before she wasn't that bad. The character hasn't changed, but the proportion of players with mastery of her has.

They are all complaining because they don't enjoy changing how they play, anything that isn't just running around a pallet constantly is apparently too difficult for them to handle so they want it to be nerfed. No will to adapt or learn is pretty much all it is.

So prayer beads is ok because helped you to get the grab trophy? Ok make's sense, but it's still the brokest add on in the game. It's just an unfair mechanic. And what's the point of knowing how spirit ends chases? Prayer beads is pretty useless in chases. Its only purpose is to grab and jumpscare people while you are out of their terror radius... just lame

I hate going against spirit in general just because im trash against her and if she has prayer beads oh damn.
Is it hard to against yes, does it need nerf absolutely not.
When u go against pray bead spirit its like pure horror thought of her jumping out anywhere is horrifying, fun, and scary,
I don't know why there so many post on her people need just shut it sometimes and stop crying, because they refuse to adjust. Just a thought

Btw, you can tell when she phases most of the time. Just watch her hair, it'll shoot straight up when she begins phasing.
Also, when she vaults a window her entire body flickers, I wouldn't say it's like the passive phase but just keep your eye on her at windows, if her hair shoots straight up, shes phasing around the window. If she flickers, she's coming through the window.

I think you should be able to hear the phasing sound while in a pallet loop. Get rid of prayer beads or make it 50-75% reduction and remove collision during phasing.

Even though many, if not most, killers also agree Nurse's add ons need to be balanced.
The Spirit changes I see advocated for by most people are reasonable.

Spirit was annoying from the beginning and that was said since release, but nobody cared for that. Same with other killers. Now those will get payback for ignoring these issues. Spirit will be the next killer to get nerfed cause its needed like nurse.

I think any Killer that's Top-Tier has been asked to be nerfed anyways. Like Nurse, Billy, and Spirit now. It's just a cycle that happens I suppose...

Spirit does have a visual queue for when she is phasing, but it's subtle. People want a big flashing sign that says RUN when shes phasing, instead of having to pay attention.
She has a sort of idle animation for how her body moves while she's standing still. When she begins to phase, the animation resets and her hair jerks up. I've also heard that the glass on her body gets shiny while she's phasing.

When Spirit was released obviously everyone would be suboptimal at phasing resulting in loads of scary chases and jumpscares especially when she would come out of phase several meters next to you. Now everyone's learned to phase optimally at red ranks resulting in boring/frustrating games. Someone on this forum described it like this. It's either:
hit - phase - hit OR phasehit - hit.
There is 100% no counterplay. People think "guessing correctly" is counterplay when it isn't.
Even Iron Will makes little to no difference against good Spirits as there's still scratch marks, collision, sounds from footsteps and (often) grass. There is absolutely NO reliable way to get away from a "good" Spirit regardless of the survivor's experience/skill. Survivors turn into "meaningless puppets" against any good Spirit.
Also survivors have no possibility to see whether she is phasing or not allowing the Spirit player to just stand there and wait for the right moment to start phasing resulting in easy hits no matter how "unpredictable" you try to be as a survivor.
That being said I personally enjoy playing against non-optimal Spirits who mess up a few phases here and there even if I still die. It's just boring/frustrating to play against an optimal Spirit as she just collects hooks like nothing.

Yes he did but Billy is most balanced of all of them, I even think that he is the most balanced in the game.
So yeah i suppose that the cycles will continue that way but he might not be the key. Sure add-ons nurse , Prayer beads spirit , Insta-saw billy can be unfun or OP in the right hand but it's kind of necessary who's gonna beat those SwF after all.

I don't think its for SWFs for the most part, its more so just who is the Top-Tier is all... Since you DO need a Top-Tier for a tier list to be complete that is...
And yes, Billy is actually one of the most balanced and fleshed out Killers I've ever had the pleasure of P3-50ing back in the day...

Well, it's called wrong perception.
She never was "one of the most beloved killers in the game" to begin with. Her gameplay design is flawed and I would never dare to say that it's a well designed killer (something that is continously stated in this very forum by weebs and people who can't master nurse, and hence you might have perceived that as reality).
(Though, I have to admit, at least in the graphical design area they did a pretty good job.)
And as DBD players are a strange breed, they can endure a lot of crap. But throw enough crap at people and they finally get fed up. We've reached the boiling point. That's what's happening. Not sure why you're surprised about it.

What we need is more Top-Tier Killers tbh... Something to make the Red Ranks have more variety as Killer. That's why when I play Killer at Rank 1, I play Killers that are not considered to be Top, like Clown, Pig, GhostFace, Myers, etc.
But not everyone does that, they either just use Nurse or Billy for a SWFs or just in-general. I don't use them for any SWFs, because its more satisfying to beat a coordinated team with a lesser Killer!

Fairly simple really.
Spirit was something new when released (well, not exactly upon release. Maybe after her big buff afterwards). Back then, we hadnt had a non-M1 Killer ever since Huntress, if memory doesnt fail me. She was loved because the end result was something unique and powerful, outstanding potential, and also really aesthetically appealing. The usual looping mechanics, being a counter to a great amount of the Killers we had didnt apply to her. Overall, appreciated by many, an amazing, if not the best, design for a character.
Time passed, novelty worn off. And, as per usual, people complain about anything that either does not have a crystal clear counter or "breaks the (looping) game". And, here we are today. I would say you have to play a lot of Spirit and a lot against her to properly counter her, and I am perfectly fine with that. That is the very definition of skilful play.
Other than time, the only changing factor was footsteps being made actually audible. That certainly was a big buff to Spirit. No matter the arguments against it, it should have been like that since the start. It was not game mechanics hindering her power, it was an actual bug that did.

My only issue with Spirit is Prayer Beads. At that point i rather be playing against a Nurse with Omega Blink, only because i can hear her.

Same thing as always. Killers have to play in strenuous circumstances and eventually overcome and dominate and the survivors demand an artificial limit to the killers skill skill be implemented to make up for their own lack of talent.
Anything that can't be bested by looping a pallet is too OP.

I would prefer they rework Prayer beads before they nerf her honestly. I feel that addon causes a lot of problems that might be a better start then killing of a killer *looks at legion*
I admit she's insanely strong, but I feel she was pushed as a balanced killer a little too much and that balance broke her.

Clown is one of my favorite killer but one of the weaker one unfortunately. Legion could be one of my main if they make them great. They have the potential to be high tier if they buff the m/s in frenzy and revert the cooldown at 3s.

So Michael Myers can have add ons that kill you at tier 3 without being hooked or infinite tier 3, or aura reading add ons but spirit can’t have an add on that removes the woosh sound? Gimme a break

I'm not zealous on this theory, but mine would be that because according to a poll I took most people see The Spirit the most when playing Survivor, they just get tired of playing her. I don't think it's because she doesn't have counterplay. I main Spirit, and I have gone up against smart survivors who have counterplayed me. How? By looping. Survivors looping can work to counterplay every killer except Nurse, because Nurse is the only killer that ignores the mechanics of the game.

Because people don’t like adapting their gameplay (loops) to suit different killers, hence why nurse is getting ‘reworked’ and people want the same for spirit.
She has counterplay, people just can’t be bothered to learn it.

People learned how to play her. When spirit came out she was basically untouched for months but then people figured out how to play her and now you see more of them than nurses at red ranks.

Amen! Just make the Prayer Beads an Ultra rare add-on and bump down Father’s Glasses to very rare. Problem solved.

People seem to hate the spirit because like Nurse (and Legion to a lesser extent), you can’t really out run the Spirit.
The Spirit’s entire theme revolves not around winning chases, but sneaking up on unsuspecting survivors and luring them into ambushes.
The Prayer Beads are no different than Insta-Saw Billy since they have the exact same outcome, the difference being that survivors like to blindly run away from the Hillbilly instead of looking out for signs of the spirit closing in.
