I'm super pumped for the archives, the rift and the mid chapter collections (BHVR oraise)
to break from the flood of angry people in the streets of the realm of the entity, I am really really REALLY excited for all that juicy content, this is the healthiest thing they could have ever done to the game for a couple of reasons:
THE ARCHIVES ARE THE MOST CONCRETE LORE YET and a source of game time
not only do we get something to do which isn't "get chased with this character you never use for 3 bps", we get a reward that not even auric cells compare; actual lore.
We can finally get some answers! Some concrete information and even some pictures to check out on the characters past (maybe some "origin" clothes for killers where they look like their PRE entity days? Here's your idea mr BHVR)
THE Rift is the partial answer to burnout
burnout is terrible, when you really like a game so much that you end up not liking it anymore, it really does suck.
With the rift however, we finally have a partial answer to the burnout problem DBD suffers from
sure a pseudo battle pass is gonna be another riot fest in some people's eyes, but if it includes super awesome clothes as tier rewards + game currencies like bps and iri shards + challenges to complete to earn tiers it might just be the thing DBD was looking for.
MID CHAPTER COLLECTIONS
they are just cool, everytime a mid chapter patch comes out and with it the collections, it feels like christmas, seeing all the cool designs and stuff; it's great.

According to leaks, everyone who plays the PTB will receive 2000 Auric cells (PTB only) to try out the Rift. If that translates to Live Servers as assumed, it puts the price for the Paid Rift Track at $20.

I can't point you to a discussion that clearly states the rules and intents of the Archives and Rifts, but I can try my best to explain them to you.
The Archives will be a series of Challenges related to specific in-game characters that when completed will reward a variety of goodies such as Lore cinematics, Bloodpoints, Iridescent Shards, and a new cosmetic item known as Charms. Presumably the harder the challenge, the better the reward.
The Rift will be a two sided rail track that offers rewards such as Bloodpoints, Iridescent Shards, and cosmetics for Player play time and level. That would be the free side of the tracks. It lasts a limited season.
The paid side will require money to access and will also last for a limited season. As far as we know It's rewards will be better cosmetics than those found in the Free Track's rewards. We'll be able to see all of this for ourselves tomorrow on the PC PTB.

ah okep ! thank you for the explanation ! Do you mean that for example some challenge will require you to play a certain survivor ? Because i know i saw one with Trapper. Maybe the challenges will depends on each players and the DLC they own as it would be stupid to ask them to mori a survivor with Freddy if they don't have the DLC to do so.
Also you talked about Charms , do we know yet what they are ?

As far as I understand it, each series of Challenges will be tied specifically to a character. So of you want lore or and rewards for Claudette, you must play Claudette. Same should go for Killers considering their different powers. If any lore is to be made for Freddy (Doubtful), you'd have to play Freddy to obtain it.
Charms when found in the files of the game at the beginning of the year, were cosmetic items related to the Archives. You unlocked them for doing specifically difficult challenges. For Survivors, they took the shape of objects that hanged off their waist. For killers, they took the shape of objects that hanged off of Hooks. This might have changed between then and now however.

Could be possible that the extra auric cells are just to buy some tiers. Most battle passes mostly are priced around $10 to 15 having it be 20 seems like a massive ######### behaviour so I hope that's not the case but who knows

I haven't played the game almost at all since they announced archives back during summer because I was so hyped for the battle pass/archives and was really disappointed with the virtually zero summer content. I am incredibly hyped for this update and plan on playing the game a ton. It finally adds progression that I'm interested in

And I do. I buy every DLC ( except st) and at least 60 bucks of cosmetics. I've "supported" the devs with almost $200.
Stop dick riding behaviour. This isnt supporting the devs. Its them getting greedy because they know people with FOMO and extra free time (or some who dont and procrastinate actual responsibilities) will give in and pay them whatever they ask.

And I'm with you. I've spent a decent penny on DbD. I have disposable income. I'm the type of player that doesn't mind spending on games. Hell, I own all the statues for Overwatch, and just pre-ordered the Mei statue.
I'm not giving them a dime for the Rift.

I was worried when I saw a response on here then I realized who it was.
You're right, blizzard's games work, but their cosmetics and pets are ridiculously priced.
I love the game, and support the devs, but like i did with rocket league, i lose a LOT of respect with them implementing a battlepass. Its unnecessary and greedy.
I dont mind spending money. I just bought a vinyl of the Bloodborne ost and the stupid priced hunter statue to add to my From Soft setup. But I wont spend on petty greed tactics. I'll buy a Sharkcard before this lol.

I bought the DLCs to have new content, and as YOU said I should, support the devs.
I bought ~$60 in cosmetics for the few characters I DO play. IE Pig, Kate, Legion. Yes, I paid for Legion and cosmetics.
I wont spend $10 (per each new rift, dont forget) for cosmetics for things I dont want, to maybe get ONE for someone I DO play, under the guise of "its free/cheap cosmetics", when in reality it's a way to keep people playing longer than they normally would, WHILE charging you money, instead of actually giving out the cosmetics. Either free or earned in weekly events/daily challenges.
It's a cash grab. Pure and simple.

I noticed something about the challenges on their Archives/Rift page. The Mastery Challenges will require specific Perks to complete. Those Perks will be available in the Shrine the week the Mastery Challenge releases.
For Vets, that's a non-issue. For new players, or players who didn't grind all the Perks yet, it's a subtle way to force those folks to spend their shards in the Shrine on Perks, instead of saving them for cosmetics here and there. It's a disguised way to push that segment of the player base into buying even more auric cells for cosmetics, since they were probably buying some anyway since 9,000 cells for a cosmetics isn't a fast earn for them.
But now, to complete some Mastery Challenges, they'll have to dump those shards into the shrine.
Remember, I was debating making DbD my main game due to Overwatch burn-out, but was waiting for the Archives/Rift into to see the practices involved.
Nope. It'll remain a side game . . . a very, very side game now.
To be honest, some of what I have learned today is actually leaning me toward a permanent uninstall and no longer giving another dime to BHVR. Just like I don't touch EA games anymore.
