Why are some people against Rift Pass??

The way I see it is if you don’t want to spend $10 for the premium. Then don’t. No one is forcing anyone to do anything. So why not let others have it? Even if you don’t buy the premium you still get free stuff in the free tiers. Who doesn’t want free stuff?

There is also people that I keep seeing saying that they bought all DLC and multiple cosmetics and are upset because they don’t want to spend $10 for the premium as if they were forced to. If you’ve bought cosmetics they usually average to a little over 1,000 AC which is already more than the premium rift pass that will give you your 1,000 AC back at the end. If you didn’t like the premium rift pass after completing it then hold the AC for cosmetics instead of buying the 2nd season.

CAuse they want it all FREEEEE!!!!

Naw they are just worried this will keep happening... but you get your money back in cells you can turn around and use to get Content.

Don't like it, don't get it. I barely have money and i'll be getting it.

Honestly, I think the pass is great. I'm a broke ######### so Imma get the free one, but the premium is honestly a great deal oddly enough

Yeah. Some guy said he is "getting slapped in the face with the addition of a battle pass" and it's like, it's literally just cosmetics. I have almost never cared about cosmetics, and when I do, I usually opt in to get the free stuff you can get with in-game currency. If you're complaining about the pass, you've prob already sunk money into cosmetics and if that's your priority then that's on you. It literally gives us free stuff. You don't NEED premium and you never will. It's just cosmetics. Nothing game changing. And if they put "game changing" things in it then they would lose a large majority of their players do it isn't gonna happen.

For me it treads on "Games as a service" rather than DLC and that's my main issue with it. I'm not a fan of feeling as though I need to play out of obligation to get the most out of my money because playing feels like a chore. I also don't like the idea of timed rewards as much as everyone else does. I also don't have a lot of time to grind compared to some people. Because of that I don't want to be that person who has to pay extra just to get the same as others.

As long as it supports the game though I'm fine with it. The moment I see anything lootbox related though I'm uninstalling. We don't know if BHVR ever does that but that's where I draw the line.

tl;dr - I won't buy it but I'm not against others enjoying it. I won't support gambling though.

For me it's because this is a game you already have to pay for as well as future content (DLC) and most skins are locked behind overpriced paywalls IMO and now they're introducing a battle pass. I'll probably buy the Rift Pass over skins considering it's only 1000 auric cells compared to buying skins.

Premium is not my problem. For me the ra ranking is so off. I'm rank 10 killer and always get paired with rank 5 and higher survivors. My problem is finishing the challenges and getting the fragments to go up in tiers since i hardly get one sacrifice.

Some people also say it's a scam and it's impossible to complete it.

I think it will be quite doable in the 70 days we get. The missions aren't the only way to get rift fragments.

And you can always just do the free route and if you think it goes well or if you reached rewards you think are worth it buy the pass and claim these rewards

I was actually going to pay for the battle pass until I looked into it. It's almost impossible to complete. Even if you complete all challenges you have to also play over 100hours in 70days to get the remaining fragments needed. This means you'll have to buy the pass and then pay to complete it???

Or just play 3/4 hours per day.

If you can play a lot it'll be 100% earn-able. The people with not much free time will struggle or have to pay yes.

that's over 100hours that don't include grinding for the challenges. It also doesn't include lobby wait times. It's more likely to be a min of 2 hours daily - and that's to including matches where the challenges are just not possible. Can't kick gens because blendettes are running in the corners? that's a wasted match. Can't do unhook because the nea is farm ing in front of the killer? that's a wasted match. I'm all for it being difficult but at least make it a little more achievable- especially if you're paying for the privilege of attempting it!

If you ignore the challenges and just play 4 hours a day you'll finish it in time.

Its an anti-casual system. It's 100% possible if you can play 230 hours or so in 70 days

4 hours a day every day is asking ALOT from people who have busy schedules, jobs, and sudden life circumstances.

I hate the phrase “casuals” because it’s not true - they just don’t have time for very legitimate reasons. It’s a word to make people who have time, access, money, and maybe above average skill feel superior to others.

Asking players to revolve their life and free time around a single video game is wrong and predatory.

I was for it until the difficulty of challenges and time requirements were exposed as scams.

    I wanted to buy it.

Same. At first I thought it might actually be pretty reasonable compared to other micro transactions in other games - but the clock blocking challenges that rely almost entirely on luck and the stars aligning really turned me off. I enjoy a challenge, I have 44 platinums to my name (45 if I ever have the opportunity to get Where Did They Go!,) but things that are specifically designed to cause panic and frustration like incredibly difficult luck based challenges on a time limit with a paywall is a huge turn-off.

Casual isn't a dirty word. I know a lot of people use it as an insult, but that's because they don't know what words mean. Describing a player who has a busy schedule and plays for maybe an hour or two when they have time as a casual player is 100% accurate. Casual just means relaxed or informal or unplanned.

I guess what I'm saying is, it sounds like you have a huge issue with the word because of how people use it, but there's actually nothing wrong with being a casual player, so just try to remember that people who use it as an insult don't really know what it means most of the time so you don't need to let it get to you :)

The pass isn't really that bad. I mean, it is your choice to spend that 10 dollars and play A LOT to make the next Pass free. I don't like it, and I won't buy it. However, I do not see this as a thing that would force people to pay. If you can't stop yourself from buying the Pass because there is a good skin in there, that is your own problem.

The thing I am most worried about the Pass is that eventually they would put BPs, Perks, or Add-ons (basically anything that you earn by playing normally). If this happens, this could result in a sort of P2W situation. Those who bought the pass then can grind less and get a character fully maxed out much faster.

In my opinion, instead of complaining about this Pass, why not try to give out useful suggestion to the game and hope that the devs can use the money they get from the Rift Pass to allow them to do more balancing and fixing the core game?

If the Auric Cells rebate is why they made the pass unbeatable I'd rather they remove them from the pass.

10 dollars is more than fair for what is offered in the pass. I would gladly pay for it. IF and only IF it could actually be beaten by the average player. Which as it stands isn't the case.

What I want is to be able to finish the Rift. I don't want my Auric Cells back if that means making the Rift unfinishable.

The reason you can receive Auric Cells from the battlepass is to make themselves look better: "Look, we care about the players! We don't just want your money!"

Once bought, all rewards should unlock when the battlepass track expires (I believe this is the case when the next one releases). You can progress through the battlepass track and get the cosmetics early, or you can wait until the end and get what you paid for without having to pay even more money to finish it.

I'm not one of them, but i figure ONE of the reasons could probably also be a fear of escalation.

Y'know, if this performs extremely well, they might expand it.

  • Madjura
    Madjura Member Posts: 2,466

Too late for that, that has already happened.

From DLC that was directly purchasable (80's Suitcase, Bloodstained Sack) to ingame store with anti-consumer premium currency that you cannot purchase in the denominations you want (Auric Cells) to an even more anti-consumer battlepass system.

    Definitely not too late.

Observing other games shows this could be ten times worse, and i wouldn't blame anyone for wanting to have that fear.

Just cause some feel it already escalated doesn't mean we're at rock bottom.

Not spending another cent on this company before MoM is buffed back.

You can't trust BHVR to let you keep what you spend your money on in this game.

Less and less content for more money. I wouldn't surprised to see loot boxes that give random perks or cosmetics in the next year.

  • Madjura
    Madjura Member Posts: 2,466

To clarify, I did not intend to imply that the current state is the absolute worst it can be. My goal was to point out that an escalation regarding anti-consumer mechanics has already happened and is in progress.

Secondly, I don't feel like that just because other games and publishers have pushed the boundaries means that Behaviour has to follow suit. Especially now that they are self-published. There is no big publisher forcing them to implement those mechanics, they are doing this on their own.
