It’s hard being a leatherface main

I really wish leatherface wasn’t one of the worst killers. I will admit that I have a huge bias with him because I really love the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” series and it’s what got me into horror and into DBD. But I cannot deny it that he is a weak killer even if he does have a power that can insta down survivors. The only thing he has going for him is some players will underestimate you sometimes cause they think leatherface players aren’t smart and his strong defensive ability, but killers play more offensive than defensive in this game. It’s so bad that people say his most powerful strategy is basement camping, but I don’t want to camp; I actually want to play the game. I just want him to be good. How would they do that I don’t know probably buff is rev speed or a tiny buff to his movement speed while revving up his chainsaw so he at least has somewhat of chance to catch up. I don’t think he should be god tier but at least give him something that puts him in mid tier at most.

I'll say i downed 2 people in less then a minute into the game and they both DC'ed on me.

Seriously though he's not that good a higher levels.

I always run those addons the thing is I don’t have all those teachables yet ( school makes it to where I can’t play the game enough to get my characters leveled up quickly).

Do not despair he will eventually get at least an addon rework.

I can agree though I’m usually in green ranks and haven’t gotten to red ranks, but I have seen enough footage of how those survivors play to tell that LF is not that suited to go against them. Also a funny store I had a Claudette DC against me because I downed her even though she ran straight into me and didn’t move for the whole duration that I was reviving my chainsaw.

  • I’ve been using him at rank 1 with PWYF and two speed add-ons. Survivors will grossly underestimate how safe they are from an insta down. But yeah against good survivors he’s easily one of the weaker killers. Zero map pressure, zero chase ending mechanics.

I got the first guy and the second just stood there watching me down him, so i moved slightly to the right and got him to. The funny thing was i was picking them up to let them wiggle off.

    The most standard leatherface build

    @SulfonicFaun52

Anyways, the best I can suggest to do with LeatherFace, is to start focusing on builds that can assist you as a M1 Killer... Yes, you have a chainsaw but its more akin to a glorified M1 if anything else...

Try something like this, Ruin, BBQ and Chili, Enduring, and Spirit Fury. This build is pretty standard for LeatherFace and works best on him... Enduring is if you get pallet hit while in a chainsaw frenzy, and spirit fury is to capitalize on Survivors that're injured but harder to catch...

Once the pallet hits you and Spirit Fury breaks it, enduring will negate most of the stun and give you an easy down on the Survivor. You can also switch BBQ with Corrupt Intervention if you want more less generators to monitor at the start, but its best to stick with the build above. Or you can switch BBQ for Pop Goes the Weasel if you want generators to regress more.

If you don't have the DLC for those perks, but you have other DLC like just Plagues and Spirits but not Hags, you can just use Corrupt Intervention in place of Ruin. Or if you don't have any of this DLC, you can try some bare bones like Enduring, Whispers, Brutal Strength, and LeatherFaces BBQ. That's the best I can suggest for a bare-bones DLC-less build... not counting LeatherFaces DLC of course.

    Add-on combos

You should only really use the following, they're the only real... good add-ons to use on him. The Chili add-ons don't work btw, I mean they technically do but the changes are so small that they don't even exist tbh.

For standard add-ons, use Scratch Marks + Primer Bulb. This will give you extra charge with Primer Bulb and negate the negative effects of Scratch Marks. While the positive effects of Scratch marks is the movement speed increase it gives when in a chainsaw Frenzy.

So when you're right on-top or fairly close to the Survivor (Healthy or not) you can charge up pretty decently and effectively down them with the increased movement speed.

If you don't want to use Primer Bulb, just use Spark Plug to negate the charge decrease from Scratch Marks all-together, but it doesn't increase the charge speed also.

The more advanced version is Tuning Guide + Beast Marks. It's the same principle except on-top of adding a bit more charge speed, it also increases the time you recover from bumping into objects, reduces the noise the chainsaw makes, and reduces the cool-down after the frenzy is over.

But it's more advanced because Beast Marks makes the Chainsaw Frenzy speed much faster than Scratch marks, so if there is nothing nearby like pallets or windows, or they're too far to get to... you can easily charge up a Frenzy and mow down anyone you were right behind.

You can also use just Scratch Marks + Beast Marks if you feel the moderately charge speed reduction isn't that much, but it's best to use the charge add-ons with the movement speed add-ons... as having both movement speed add-ons isn't really that different than just having Beast Marks + Tuning Guide, but it is better than the standard Scratch Marks + Primer bulb/Spark Plugs... but that's just a standard add-on combo so of course it's better.

    tl;dr

The best standard build for Bubba is Ruin, BBQ, Enduring, and Spirit Fury. Don't use any of the other add-ons besides Scratch Marks + Primer Bulb/Spark Plug for the standard add-on combo, and Tuning Guide + Beast Marks for the advanced guide.

If you're feeling risky, you can just use both Scratch Marks + Beast Marks for an insane Chainsaw Frenzy walk speed, but moderately reduced chainsaw charge speed...

It's better to use the first two combos, rather than the latter. Because the latter is just if you're out of charge add-ons or if you feel the charge add-ons won't make a difference. It's up to you.

Makes me wonder if he will get the Freddy treatment and get a major rework putting him in the top 5 killers.

Not a Leatherface main, but he was my first I leveled up and always loved the OG Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. So even tho people rate him super low, still love him. I usually do decently enough, but getting the wrong map or really coordinated Survivors can make it tough.

I need to experiment with other add-ons, but my go-to are Beast's Marks & Knife Scratches (I'm fairly sure they stack?)

Nothing spectacular, but a fun 3K here.

Unfortunately, his perk slots need to be filled with tracking perks in order to be most effective. He needs to make up slack for the terrible lack of map pressure.

That's why I say maps can really make or break him. There's some where I'm pretty decided on a 2k at best.

    Feel you man.

To be honest. I think is hard being A NON SPIRIT, NURSE, BILLY main.

We hear these amazing stories of how these make survivors cry op, and actually play as a power role, while the rest of us are here getting looped, gen rushed, bullied to Oblivion with the rest of the cast.

But hey... At least nurse if getting nerfed.

PrEtTy GoOd JoB am I right?

Unless hes getting a teleport or some kind of map-yeeting ability, he will never be top 5.

As he is? Faster ms when charging would be nice, even if its an add on.

This also begs the question, what should his URs be?

  • FireHazard
    FireHazard Member Posts: 7,314

Those add-ons are a must, and are really the only real useful perks to use... along side the charge add-ons or even by themselves combo'ed.

Tbh, the only real good add-ons he has is the charge add-ons and the movement speed add-ons with the chainsaw Frenzy. And that Perk build works well with him because he does have a chainsaw... despite it being weaker than Billys. Even Billy uses that perk combo, but he uses it a lot better because... he sprints instead of frenzys.

    Use THE FORBIDDEN COMBO:

    BBQ/Ruin/NOED/Insidious

Open up a McDonald's and turn a sick profit because you'll never have to pay for salt @_@

PWYF is also dope on him.

I’m working towards picking up those teachables ( the ones I lack are spirit furry, and enduring) it’s just because of school I don’t always have time to get everything perk for all of my characters quickly (though bbq has help a lot with this problem)

You just need to find what areas you are weak in and bring perks that help counter those areas, and then when you feel confident enough without those perks you can run whatever feels best for you, try for corrupt intervention, maybe thrilling tremors, infectious fright, mindbreaker would be amazing on him because i know survivors bully leather at gens so make em pay lol also cruel limits, anything that will help your play style is always a good idea, i like sloppy butcher on him so i can smack people and then chainsaw em down so they have the extra heal time, and Thanatophobia, is always fun to slow the game, i dont like to be down a perk when ruin is broken so i always try for Thanat, but i would recommend Ruin for killers that can play more defensively so leather can have fun with it for sure lol

Instead of NOED Ruin and you got my LF build. His speed addons give him some anti-loop, like you mentioned.

  • palotheas
    palotheas Member Posts: 118

Honestly I've used the best chili and speed addons and I could still catch up to survivors and down them if I wasn't back revving. But he still has that problem where if survivors are just staying around strong windows you can't catch them. Maybe in those situations play like hag where you only stay on one side of the map where you defend a few generators amd whittle down the survivors resources.

LF gets a lot of bad rep but if you can outplay the survivors and play to your strengths he isn't that bad.

  • Yamaoka
    Yamaoka Member Posts: 4,321

Leatherface is not weak AT ALL unless you don't know how to play him which is often the case based on how many people abuse him to facecamp after struggling to m1 a survivor for minutes.

See I agree with this. I can get a 4k with LF quite easily without camping or tunneling. I normally play 110 killers so the booted speed means as a 115 I have little trouble dealing with Survivors without his chainsaw.

Also PWYF is the reason I actually started to play with LF and it is unbelievably good in him.

PWYF, Discordance, PGTW, Ruin is my current build anymore for him.

  • Usui

It depends on how you play him. Even at red ranks i've seen them do well. If you just run around thinking you can saw everything in sight you've already lost. It's the same kind of huntresses that try to go for snipes instead of hitting with m1 sometimes. Need to play smart, this game isn't hard.

  • Liruliniel

I never camp with any of the killers because I personally think it’s a waste of time. It’s just that I need to work on getting better perks unlocked on him and work on improving my timing on the chainsaw frenzies.

  • AbsolutelyAmel
    AbsolutelyAmel Member Posts: 146

Maybe nobody likes him because 99.99 Percent of Leatherfaces facecamp and just ruin the fun. Sometimes when I play him and let a survivor free they thank me for like 15 minutes

Like, this is what Leatherface has become.

Honestly Leatherface just needs a straight up rework on all levels, addons and base. Even if you buffed him he would still be a weak killer because his power base is incredibly weak. If I had too buff something, it's movement speed when charging, and too make the charge act like charging with Billy.

  • Yamaoka
    Yamaoka Member Posts: 4,321

Billy's charge mechanic would be a direct nerf for Bubba's chainsaw.

  • SaintDenisSlasher
    SaintDenisSlasher Member Posts: 227

This, he's now the second weakest killer behind legion. My main problem with bubba is that he's really just a slow Billy with an hour long tantrum if he hits something, but still not nearly as useless as legion. I can see why they wanted to rework nurse but i hear doctor is next and that's so lame because he's mid tier, i don't see how he needs work before legion or bubba and it seems to take a really long time to do these sort of things so i don't expect bubba getting a buff anytime soon, despite being a horror icon that deserves to be feared

  • Yamaoka
    Yamaoka Member Posts: 4,321

Doctor? Mid tier? All he's got is tracking making him completely powerless against decent gen jockey survivors who don't even try to hide. His anti-loop doesn't work consistently and using his power literally makes him slower while walking (110% in treatment mode) and even slower than survivors while shocking (82.5% movement speed while shocking) allowing good survivors to loop him into oblivion UNLESS they're bad survivors that stay at the pallet during the stun duration of 2.5 seconds.

Doctor most definitely is not stronger than Bubba no matter how you put it. He's a weaker M1 killer. Other M1 killers can use their ability to end chases quickly. Doctor's ability sort of artificially increases the chase duration because you'll try to shock people to shut down loops just to realize they're vaulting a window WHILE screaming (sometimes).

No, just no. Doctor definitely needs way more love than Bubba. And yes, I've mained Doctor for quite some time back in 2017/2018 so I know what I'm talking about. I used any addon and perk combination, tried any possible strategy etc.

He "seems" strong-ish against immersed (solo) survivors who hide in a locker as soon as your static field pops up but against "normal" survivors or semi ok-ish SWF he's just utter trash.

Bubba ALWAYS has a chance to quickly or even immediately down survivors when played correctly - Doctor has not.

  • BunnyTheHutt
    BunnyTheHutt Member Posts: 1,773

I disagree. I believe giving it the same charge mechanic would benefit Bubba, as right now, just holding it is usually detrimental since it's so easy too mind game him with his current chainsaw.

  • SaintDenisSlasher
    SaintDenisSlasher Member Posts: 227

I mean you basically agreed with me by explaining indepth Doc's power and how its unique and useful but not the strongest and unreliable, so playable but not all powerful but not useless either...almost like he's in the middle of the tiers or something

In addition to that you also pointed out you mained doctor for a year which i guess was supposed to show people you were an expert doctor player (pro tip use the shock infrequently and they won't expect it, it's not something you can rely on at every loop) but I'm pretty sure anyone who plays the game would read that as "i main doctor so he should be stronger" which he should btw but so should really all mid tiers. And there's two killers that are almost always universally agreed to be low tier now that Freddy has ascended so you know, priorities

Lastly and most importantly the only thing you could say about Bubba is that he has an insta down making him stronger, bad take imo but even with that take....you didn't even bother to mention legion. So we can all agree that legion is by far the weakest killer right? I mean if you can have different biased killer mains argue about which killer needs buffing first and they don't even try to make an argument about why Legion is stronger i think it's pretty obvious who should be first in line regardless of who you personally want see buffed lol
