6 ranks is too big of a gap
I know that the ranking system works to ensure people have the shortest queue time as possible, and will broaden its acceptable ranking gap as the queue goes on, but I think that a 6 rank difference is too much. Way too much!
I play each role about 50/50, and I've been playing more killer lately. For me killer queue is pretty long, 5-8 minutes of waiting. Survivor queue is less than 2 minutes usually.
I get into a match and all seems well, I was playing Spirit for the adept today and I thought i'd play some more since I was doing well (ended up getting adept).
Then I get utterly destroyed. Like i'm talking an 8 minute game. Most of my games are about 15 minutes.
It was a 4 man SWF with OoO. Here was the ranking.
They all escaped. I got 1 hook. I didn't even know they had OoO until the gates were powered. I guess I wasn't paying attention and I had BBQ.
This is very frustrating for me. I get that it is a legit strategy but it feels so unfair, to be on comms, have OoO, and also be high rank. These people should have been matched with a rank 1-4 IMO, not me, a rank 8. I was unlucky enough to get to rank 8 during the match right before this one, so if I had done badly before I wouldn't have been matched with these guys.
My point is that the accepted range in ranks is too big, as their skill level is drastically different than mine. Drastically! Like I said, I didn't even know they had OoO until the end of the match. That's how bad I am.
It was embarrassing how badly I did, considering I had the "appearance" of skill (P3 Spirit w good perks).

Who you play against has a lot of factors i mean if you can wait up to 30 mins for a game then this is the ranks you get its a bit silly, but it could just be they were the only people the game could find at that moment. It happens in low to mid teir ranks too though. I can be rank 12 and go against rank 17s to 20s at times

tbh i'd rather wait longer to get better matchmaking than have a shorter wait for games like this.

I would be happy if it was 6 ranks.
I got a rank 13 killer at rank 3 survivor

I've thought the same. It always hurts when you have a game like that. I'll offer you a Killer hug, with extra Dwight lungs.

6 ranks too much, you say? Yeah yeah.

I’ll have to wait until after rank reset to get the Pigs adept, keep running into 4 man SWF with stacked perks and items.
I’m rank 10 atm, survivors are too good and I’m not good enough with Pig to defeat optimal squads.

The queue time varies depending on the region and the platform. It takes me only 30 seconds to find a killer game, but 5-8 min for a survivor game.
Anyhow, I somewhat agree that the rank gap is too large. Six ranks apart mean different skill level. I'm rank 11 killer and going up against a rank-6 squad is not a fun game, especially when they are swf most of the time. I tend to get -6 instead of +6 in matchmaking.

Major issues with the mm.

I wish we could see the ranks from the other side tbh. Maybe that would improve the game experience for both sides. And you could still dodge a lobby if the ranks are too far from your own. Let the killer see my rank and remove my name so he can't hit on my profile before the game starts :)

You are a purple rank killer.
You are not some newb who does not understand the game.
If you are going to rank up you will have to learn how to deal with these types of survivors or at the very least earn a ton of points when you encounter them.
I respect survivors who are actually ranking up this season rather than deranking and keeping themselves in the brown and yellow ranks.

I don't think being decimated in a game where you're expecting to be matched with someone that is of similar skill to yours will give anyone a lesson on how to deal with Red Rank Survivors.

Yesterday I played a game as survivor (rank 7). All my teammates were rank 7 or 8.
Killer was rank 20..
If 6 ranks gap rule actually applies to you, you are lucky...

Judgmental much?

@UlvenDagoth Not sure what you mean. I am stating facts. How did he get to purple? Killing survivors.
@DelsKibara Facing SWF is frustrating but there are lessons to be learned in every match.

Look at how you said it. Look at the context you gave. Even if you didn't mean it that way, it looks like you were being judgmental as hades.
0 -
@UlvenDagoth OK. What do you have to add to the conversation other than not liking how I said the truth?
0 -
Wow... cool man. Be that way. Remind me not to bother talking to you.
Your context was judgmental and from the interactions after that, I can only draw up the conclusion that you are as well.
My addition to the conversation is much the same as @DelsKibara
If you get stomped, there isn't too much to learn from it other than "Wow, didn't have much of a chance there." Sure you can analyze what happened but at the end of the day if you got stomped there wasn't much you could do, even more so if you were not expecting it. Just telling someone "You have to learn." without offering any advice or anything merely makes you look like a douche.

@UlvenDagoth This thread was created to complain about facing red rank survivors as a purple rank killer. This not an advice on how to kill survivors thread. He knows how to catch and kill them. I could understand if he was brown rank and facing reds like it used to be before the SWF matching changes.

tbh you can say thanks for it to killermains crying about swf (funny enough?) because if it was like before (ofc there was still a chance for you to get those kinds of lobbys because of Que time) but they would most likely get red rank killer but currently red rank killers are busy getting free lobbys (i mean 1 red rank surv and other are green because its swf) so there is high demand for red rank killers and they are getting 1 red rank surv and 3 green ranks or even "better"
and because of that purple rank which earlier got more swf (because its pretty middle rank) now are pretty much in the same basket "1-8" when it comes to playing vs red rank survivors (or swf with 1 red rank inside) there is pretty much no reason to have different color xd
and btw fun fact remember when devs introduced changes in ranks so ppl cant derank past R15? so it can protect newbies from playing vs good killers? well they are excluded from 6 ranks rule xd devs have problem with keeping with their ideas
bandaiding matchmaker is getting worse and worse, we need matchmaker complete re-work with new que "casual gamemode"

Umm, first of all you didn't make the thread, so how can you guess and manage the exact topics that can be discussed here? Secondly, you arn't giving any constructive feedback even to the topic that you profess is the only one that can be spoken about here. Thirdly, I'm sensing alot of hostility from you. I don't know if that is true or not, but there is no need for it if it is. I'm trying to have a conversation, not an argument.

@UlvenDagoth You call me judgemental and a douche and I am the one being aggressive.
0 -
well, no, cause I said it would make you LOOK like that. Not that you are. Context is very hard to show through text. I was merely making you aware of how yours was making you seem. I'd never call you either of those, as I do not know you as a person. Also, I note you didn't have an answer to the other two.
If this is not gonna go anywhere, we should drop it and move on, instead of being hostile. Best to agree to disagree if no headway can be made, that way it stays respectful.

@UlvenDagoth Killer life is hard. It has a mental toll. I understand this. I just do not agree that a purple rank is not ready to face reds. They just played a little longer this season.
As far as advice this video is old but still has some good tips:

Okay, but if your a rank 8 killer, don't you want to get to red ranks? That should be the goal right?
Really once you get past brown/green ranks everyone there has probably been red ranks before, its not that big of a deal, just learn from it and get better.
1 -
See? That was better. Thank you for that. And yes, Being a Killer is really really stressful alot of the times. Some times you just need to vent, and I think that is what this post really was. A reaching out to see if others felt the same, so that the frustration could be mitigated.

Just had a game where I as a rank 11 survivor (i dont play survivor, so sue me) went against a rank 20 Huntress, so... rip

6 ranks is too much, I was a yellow ranked killer (14) and I had multiple purple ranks (8) in my game... completely by passing the green ranks.
Maybe it should be based on colour rather than a number, you can't go 1 colour more/less than you are.

How do ya think THIS guy felt... This isnt even a 6 rank difference anymore, its just...random
0 -
I'm guessing he fell victim to the "Oh, you've been waiting a long time, lets just stick you with anyone" scenario.
Personally I would rather wait longer for a fair game, then get placed in an unfair game and get frustrated and tilted, nothing makes me stop playing DBD more than being annihilated by far more skillful players who I shouldn't even be matched with.
1 -
Its even worse due to the fact hes probably BRAND NEW. Thats how you get people to quit.

I mentioned in the op that I had JUST gotten to purple ranks the match before the one I talked about here. Meaning, i'm still technically green rank skill but i'm top of the green rank skill level.
These survivors are top skill in the game i'd say, especially since they had a organized plan of action against me.
It's not really about rank color, it's about skill. The ranking exists to keep people matched to others within their skill level, but in this case it threw that out the window.

Lynemane, I'll be the cool guy 😎.
This is going to get worst. Embrace the reality of how terrorising it is to progress as a killer or do the same as me and stop playing killer at some point. If you think it gets easier the more you learn it's not entirely true. You will always struggle as a killer. So I hope you like that kind of challenge 👍
